Harsh reality breaks through. The founders knew all of this. Human nature has not changed, either individually or societally.

BLOAT!

I simply didn't choose to exercise that right.

You know what they say about rights not exercised don't you?

Jim, I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it when it comes to owning and carrying.

When it comes to the choice of what to do when confronted with imminent personal harm/death and you are carrying ... I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six. Fregards.

As I said in my post, I haven't felt the need to own a gun up until now. I don't believe that everyone needs a gun for self defense but I certainly believe that everyone - with a few specific exceptions - has the constitutional right to own a gun.

I've lived in mostly low-crime areas, I don't hang around the 'bad' parts of town or do a lot of night travel. I'm also fairly imposing and very aware of my surroundings so my personal safety hasn't been a real issue outside of a very few times (mostly in Manhattan) over a long period of time.

As I also stated, my attitude is changing and I may make the move to buy a gun in the near future. As for not exercising the right to do so, that is still my personal choice and I will fight as hard as any NRA member to retain that constitutional right. If I ever thought that right was truly at risk I would buy as many guns as I could afford, as I would expect that an armed revolt was in the making and I would want to be prepared to do my part. Hopefully, that won't happen. Then again, Al Gore was almost elected President so anything is possible.

I'm not a gun owner but will be if I ever see the need,

None of my business, but if you wait too long, you may be too late...

In one regard, you could say everyone needs to carry a weapon because anything can happen at any time.

I'll decide that question on my own timeframe - and be assured that I'm not unaware of whats going on around me, both politically and in a practical sense.

Thanks for the interest.

Not everyone need carry; only those that value their lives.

There's the worn, old, jokes about taking a knives to a gunfight, or fists to a knife fight...
