- Europeans who decry America's use of force to protect it's own citizens from terrorists, but who had no such issues with getting American help to liberate European nations and protect European citizens from harm.

I actually saw a British official on cable about a week ago deny this. He said it was really the Russians as much as the Americans who saved Europe during WWII. I think we should let them stew in their own juices for a while, maybe a few years with no foreign aid and protection would cure their attitude.

We're regularly denounced at the UN for not signing treaties that would have a larger negative impact on us than any other nation. We're accused of wanting to be "above the law" for not recognizing the authority of an international criminal court treaty that we have not ratified and have "unsigned."

To Kofi Annan, with love,

Bart

But the next time another "world crisis" occurs (and there will always be a next time), we're going to be able to ask for the first time since the Revolutionary war, "what did they do for us when we needed help?" If that answer to that question is "they sat on the sidelines and complained," then as far as we're concerned, don't call us and we won't call you.

Hell ya.

You know the Jacksonians. They live in the "red counties," own guns, drink Budweiser, smoke ( or used to smoke ) Marlboros, and watch NASCAR on TV. They shop at Wal-Mart, and they made Rush Limbaugh the most-listened-to radio talk-show host in the history of the medium. They're Christians, and they believe in the terrible swift sword of righteousness.

Sounds good.

Thanks for the ping, Txbec. And, thanks, Conservageek, for posting that article.

Recently, I debated two people from other countries online about the U.S. and its position in the world. They believed that the "Gulf War" was an act of imperialism by the U.S. They completely disregarded the fact that the U.N. asked us to get involved or that other nations were involved. Then they accused Americans of listening "naively" to our gov't. Curiously, on the other hand, they supported the bombing of Kosovo. Sounded partisan to me. I agreed that the U.S. should not be involved in other countries' wars, but, remember, that means don't bother calling when you're in trouble.
