"How many CBs ever get to say that?!"

Well, none. Actually, how many NFL players even stick around beyond 5 or 6 seasons, nowadays?

"Been very busy making the rounds to each of my neighbor's pools. I call such *visits*, "Swim-Throughs.""

Swim-Throughs, a quaint mid-western idea, that sounds kinda cool. It appears your neighbors are very kind and that you are a most gracious guest.

"I was thinking it'd be neat to get Mudboy, sultan, KLT, & the scholar together over here for three-dayer, next season."

We're there, dude!

"I'm thinking of roasting a delicious Virginny Ham on my Weber, too."

A bit salty for some tastes, but I think we will all enjoy feasting on that ham!! I trust Mud won't be picking out a puny one to bring along.

"I used to be a United Steel Worker"

Add that to the ol' stack o' stuff I never knew about the mysterious machine of knowledge...kewl.

"That was an awfully long time ago. My union *ties* have long since faded."

I've got a Limbaugh tie or two you can borrow if'n you need to get dressed up real purty.

"(~now my Pa was a different story; a union man's union man through-&-through and just might've attended a parade or two, on this particular weekend...)"

Congrats to yer ol' man...back in their day, Union membership was something to be proud of, but now the Unions have become increasingly a hollow vehicle fer Guv'ment employees to expand the inefficient and ineffective central bureaucRATic control over the economy!! IMHO, Unions now serve to keep the blue-collar workin' man down!!

"It's just been blazingly hot & humid 'round here this weekend; &, so? Been very busy making the rounds to each of my neighbor's pools. I call such *visits*, "Swim-Throughs."

I can just see the neighbors sayin' "Oh sheeesh, here comes Landru again to soak in our pool, eat our snacks, drink our beverages, and ogle our scantily-clad women!!"

"Mind you, the *scenery's* mighty fine, indeed; whatwith, the extremely pretty Indiana neighbor-gals 'round here always making a conscious, deliberate effort to look extra nice? ;^)"

Sounds wonderful...midwestern womenfolk always struck me as the most naturally pretty, so when they deliberately get themselves spruced up, it's special!!

"Naturally, so as not to be rude? I've gotten hung-up at each house while hospitality's heaped upon my bride & I. Ultimately, we've wound-up, "closing 'em down."

That's s'posed to be the ultimate time to come back to the 'puter and FReep, unless of course you and the Redhead have better things to do after a day of soakin' up the rays!!

"Hoosiers -- it should be noted -- are amoung the warmest, friendliest peoples one could ever ask to know. We've found the people in this region make *ideal* neighbors..."

Yeah, I saw the movie and y'all can also hit the "3"

"Next year should be even more interesting; as, by that time our inground will have been installed. So, it'll be my turn to deal with the comings & goings of thier swim-throughs. {g}"

Lucky you.

"I was thinking it'd be neat to get Mudboy, sultan, KLT, & the scholar together over here for three-dayer, next season. Yea...*just* to show these kids 'round here that not all "conservatives" are "stuffy." Something to think about for next year then, eh? "

This idea's got promise...I love to just jump in my pickup, crank the tunes on my CD player and point towards a distant destination. It just adds to the fun when yer actually invited...LOL!!

"And sultan?? I'm thinking of roasting a delicious Virginny Ham on my Weber, too. ...the *timing* would be just about right! :o)"

Oh yeah...somebody's gotta have that picture of him standing on his li'l booster stand so he can make a speech over a podium...LOL!! This scrawnt li'l punk makes Michael J. Fox look like Shaquille O'Neal in comparison.

"An a hole that is always trying to prove his self worth to his members."

The key is proving to the South Dakota voters that they can do so much better...after Thune whups Johnson this fall, I believe that SD GOP ex-Guv'nah what'shisname will be puttin' D'asshole on the unemployment line next!!

"A bit salty for some tastes..."

I'd dare say *somewhat* bitter (to at least one-other), too. ~eh? :o)

"...back in their day, Union membership was something to be proud of, but now the Unions have become increasingly a hollow vehicle fer Guv'ment employees to expand the inefficient and ineffective central bureaucRATic control over the economy!! IMHO, Unions now serve to keep the blue-collar workin' man down!!"

Tend to agree with much of what you say here, Mud; government employee unionization is a cancer upon this nation & her citizens.
We've NO hope of containing the "Fed Leviathon," either; NOT as long as these unions are firmly entrenched & expanding, btw.
Be that as it may...

I believe in a true free market economy, most unions -- except the governmental ones -- would simply go the way of the wooly mammoth & especially if they continue on their present course.
Perhaps [that] reality is what puts 'em so solidly in league with Socialists, huh?
Which if true, is an irony of ironies; since, the Liberal-Socialist government goons these union people elect??
Legislate all manner of laws governing almost every aspect of the worplace on behalf of the *citizen*; which, are in effect rendering the union(s) totally unnecessary.

Think of it; on the front end the union memberships support the Leftist's pols; who're, (deliberately or inadvertently) working behind the scenes to speed-up the union's demise.
Interesting, no?
"Uselful Idiot" is really the only term which best describes the situation.

Although in all fairness?
I must say if the TRADE unions simply made more of an effort to align their wage expectation(s) with the rest of the available labor market's?
They could easily insure their longevity for many years to come.

A tradesman who has apprenticed under a skilled, competent journeyman simply produces the best, highest quality work of the entire labor pool. -Period-
Union electricians, plumbers, carpenters, steelworkers, steamfitters, millwrights etc are the best talent who'll produce the best possible product money can buy.

But these men & women all too often price themselves out of a job; moreover, it'd seems to me that only when the trades are functioning in a "closed market" (shop)?
The *quality* of union labor starts becoming a bit suspect; &, it's not too long after the host company will go belly up as a result.
Naturally, there're exceptions & the UAW is one; however, little by little this situation is changing when more & more of the UAW's work is sent outside the country?
So even a giant like the UAW's not as immune to competition, or, as in control of their destiny as they'd like to think they are.

Unions can compete with the nonunion guys anytime they want -- without the need for often violent picketing -- whenever they decide it's in their best interest to settle for a fair day's pay.
Whenever that -- albeit rarely -- happens?
Union labor's simply the only way to go; &, then the union wouldn't need to worry about "scab" labor.

"I can just see the neighbors sayin' 'Oh sheeesh, here comes Landru again to soak in our pool, eat our snacks, drink our beverages, and ogle our scantily-clad women!!'"

Whoaaa...recall if you will my saying I'm never, "rude"?
Lemme xlate that; I accept all food & drink and always say, "Thank you kindly!"...& never, ever "ogle" anyone (except Ms.K.) beyond when they walk on by my seat.
Just good, solid neighborly *policy* to volunteer respect.

"Sounds wonderful...midwestern womenfolk always struck me as the most naturally pretty, so when they deliberately get themselves spruced up, it's special!!"

HA!!
Well, I gotta admit I've never met a gal who hailed from the N-S-E- *or* W I couldn't find something unique & adorable about.
~Never. {g}
Reminds me of the ol' Beachboys song dealing with the subject; yea, sure does.

"That's s'posed to be the ultimate time to come back to the 'puter and FReep..."

See?
That's where you & I differ. (~Wildly)

"...unless of course you and the Redhead have better things to do after a day of soakin' up the rays!!"

~& *that's* why!! ;^)

"This idea's got promise...I love to just jump in my pickup, crank the tunes on my CD player and point towards a distant destination. It just adds to the fun when yer actually invited...LOL!!"

HA!!
I'll bet it does, too.

"...Ye of Li'l Faith..."

That's funny you mention that. I posted an article this morning about the Cornyn-Kirk Senate race here in Texas with this image.....

Kirk is a lot closer to tiny tommy da$$hole than to President Bush, imho.....

.....a TV interview in which the president said voters should back GOP Attorney General John Cornyn in the Senate contest because Mr. Kirk is an "obstructionist" who won't help push the Bush agenda in Congress.

Don't worry, John. With you and
Thune in the Senate, we can put a
muzzle on Daschle!

"Mr. Kirk is an "obstructionist" who won't help push the Bush agenda in Congress."

They ought to do one of them there commercials wherein Kirk's face gradually melts into D'asshole's picture as the narrator says, "A Vote fer Kirk is a Vote fer D'asshole and a Vote Against Dubyuh's Agenda...Texas Deserves Better!!"

Bitter?! Smithfield Hams are notoriously salty, but I've never heard 'em described as bitter...or were you talkin' 'bout me? LOL!! Anyhow, that salty ham is awesome fer puttin' on a biscuit with a touch of spicy mustard or horseradish.

"...government employee unionization is a cancer upon this nation & her citizens."

I agree...in the past, I've worked for government at the Local and State level and have willfully rejected all efforts to get me in the unions. Personally, I much prefer bargaining individually for my salary than bargaining collectively 'cuz I work harder and am more productive than everyone else!! Why should I let them hold me back?!

"We've NO hope of containing the "Fed Leviathan," either; NOT as long as these unions are firmly entrenched & expanding, btw."

It's certainly a formidable obstacle, but that's why I believe setting an attainable National Goal for Federal Spending as a Percentage of Gross Domestic Product--like, say, 12% by 2008--and let the Federal employees fight amongst themselves over who gets the ax.

"Think of it; on the front end the union memberships support the Leftist's pols; who're, (deliberately or inadvertently) working behind the scenes to speed-up the union's demise. Interesting, no?"

Yep...

"Although in all fairness? I must say if the TRADE unions simply made more of an effort to align their wage expectation(s) with the rest of the available labor market's? They could easily insure their longevity for many years to come."

Why, though?! Why does a good carpenter or a good pipefitter need someone else negotiating his/her compensation? Collective Bargaining is fer LOSERS!!

"A tradesman who has apprenticed under a skilled, competent journeyman simply produces the best, highest quality work of the entire labor pool. -Period- Union electricians, plumbers, carpenters, steelworkers, steamfitters, millwrights etc are the best talent who'll produce the best possible product money can buy."

Non-Union shops that allow their employees to buy into the profitability of their company is much-preferred, and it doesn't preclude apprenticeships or the same quality finished product...you just rid yerself of the middleman Union shop overhead and it's Socialist Agenda!!

"I accept all food & drink and always say, "Thank you kindly!"...& never, ever "ogle" anyone (except Ms.K.) beyond when they walk on by my seat. Just good, solid neighborly *policy* to volunteer respect."

Yessir!!

"...Ye of Li'l Faith..."
