I truly hope the S. Dakotan voters can do better than Tom Daschle.

I don't even think a muzzle would do much for Daschle. Just get him out of there.

Yep ! Once we get the Senate back, the muzzle is automatic - i.e.,
Mr. Obstructionist
is silenced. More aptly, he is neutered! Then
in 2004, bye-bye Jerk !

"It's certainly a formidable obstacle, but that's why I believe setting an attainable National Goal for Federal Spending as a Percentage of Gross Domestic Product--like, say, 12% by 2008--and let the Federal employees fight amongst themselves over who gets the ax."

Here's where your *idealism* & lack of years betrays you, bucko.
It never works like that.
YOU & I will be made to pay when the government employee *strikes* & shuts this monster down.
Believe me a *good* POTUS -- like RReagan, for example -- will take [that] strike opportunity to *break* the back of the union(s) who're participating.
But...in this day & age think there's anybody with stones big enough to do that kinda thing, anymore??
Yea, right.
*Part* of what'd these striking government unions will be asking for is an iron-clad, no union busting contract on top of job security guarentees they already have so long as they do the bare minimum requirement(s)?

"Why, though?! Why does a good carpenter or a good pipefitter need someone else negotiating his/her compensation?"

Because that's a tradesman's choice in America; not, your's *or* mine. OK?
I say make their choice a LOT less attractive when compared to something else -- "free market" -- & these people will change of their own free will.
Or, I'd like to believe that, anyway.

"Collective Bargaining is fer LOSERS!!"

Agree totally; and, that is our opinion.

"Non-Union shops that allow their employees to buy into the profitability of their company is much-preferred, and it doesn't preclude apprenticeships or the same quality finished product...you just rid yerself of the middleman Union shop overhead and it's Socialist Agenda!!"

Great & creative ideas abound to counter the unions; no argument from me on that account.
I'm also well aware of the existance of "Employee Owned" organizations offering "Profit Sharing" plans of every description as incentives, who're doing quite well; however, these EO businesses are -- for whatever reason(s) -- never in the "trades," Mud & you'll certainly NOT see these arrangements permitted with the governmental unions, either.
Wanna bet? :o)

In fact?
It was just such a "plan" I worked with as a USW member; which, was part of our contract.
The $$ incentives resulted in one union "brother" tattling on another union brother for any behavior which might result in a cut in "Ratio Premium" bonus money the rest of us stood to make, too.
Rare for a union shop of any kind to see that, y'know; but, the company LOVED it!.

...& just another reason for unions to be looking over their shoulders; they're obsolete.

You know what's real funny about those Daschle types, they think they are invincible to any laws. I think its time to just seriously clean house. Vacuum cleaner and all and suck out all the filthe that clings in Washington D.C. and start over.

To quote the National Review's 14 September 1998 issue, "[Bill Clinton] is a weak, bad man. He should never have been elected. He should go." After Slick Willie is gone from office and rejoins the ranks of the average American citizen, perhaps then we'll have the opportunity to instruct the Federal Bureau of Investigation to look a little closer into all these unsolved murders/suicides that have haunted this apparently star-crossed man...thus clearing Billzabubba's name. Perhaps...

I would link to the Clinton Body Count article, but it appears to have been deleted. So, who's fearin' fer his life around here?!?

"I don't even think "Liberal" is the right word anymore. Why not call him what he really is."

Alright, he's an anti-American PowerWhore who preys upon--and fraudulently reinforces--the deepest fears of the weakest in our society to line his own pocketbook--via his wife--and to buttress his understandably lacking sense of self-worth!!

Most Lib'ral Elites are like that...MUD

That is a very interesting concept. That such liberal elites are really lacking in self worth best says it in a nut shell.
