The second amendment has nothing to do with the right to protect oneself or house or even to go hunting.

The second amendment is there to give the people the right and the ability to overthrow the government should it become tyrannical. It is a concept rooted in the declaration of independence that "the people" have a right to break the bonds that bind them when government no longer sevres the will of the people.

Notice that the second amendment does not say muskets or swords. It uses a generic term "arms" which can mean the entire range of ordinance available at the given time.

I forget which one of the founders commented that all the other amendments in the bill of rights is solely dependant on the second amendment, it is what guarantees the other nine.

The Denver Post must be a decent newspaper to even publish this. This would never see the light of day here in TPDRSI (the People's Democratic Republic State of Illinois).
