What is up here? Does anyone even remotely think that there is a better course than to work your tail off to defeat Davis????

Can we drop the endless cranky theoretical critiques. Sure it makes you sound smart, but it doesn't do one dang thing to fix our state.

The left are old pros at two steps forward and one step back. They live to compromise and inch their agenda ever forward taking our freedoms away one grain of sand at a time.

If there was only one issue different between Simon and Davis I would support Simon. But of course that's not true. Bill Simon holds views nearly indistinguishable from Ronald Reagan.

Bill Simon supported Proposition 22, the Protection of Marriage Initiative and continues to support it. Gray Davis opposed it.

Bill Simon demanded a veto for Assembly Bill 25, which created state-sanctioned domestic partnerships. Davis signed it.

Bill Simon believes in marriage ONLY between a man and a woman.

Bill Simon is pro-life and Davis actively promotes unrestricted abortion in all cases and circumstances, all the time.

Bill Simon and his family have contributed thousands of dollars to crisis pregnancy centers and unwed mothers’ homes across the country. Gray Davis hired the director of the California Abortion Rights Action League (CARAL) and made her his policy director and chief of staff.

Bill Simon opposes blanket amnesty for illegal aliens, Gray Davis supports open borders.

Bill Simon believes you are taxed too much, Gray Davis believes you are taxed too little.

Simon is a staunch defender of the Second Amendment, Davis has signed bills that fly in the face of your right to keep and bear arms.

Simon supports home schooling and parents’ rights to raise their children as they see best. Davis sits silently by while state government officials browbeat parents of home schoolers and threaten them with arrest.

What is wrong with everyone. Has FreeRepublic become the CrankRepublic. Can we try to put aside the urge to act like a bunch complaining curmudgeons for just 64 days and get together to accomplish some good here?????

Please???????

QUIT BUYING INTO THIS DISRUPTOR ACTION BY ANTI-SIMON FORCES! ... GET OUT AND HELP DEFEAT GREY DAVIS!!!!!!

It really saddens me that a great candidate and huge improvement over a horrible and corrupt Davis, a guy who will help on cutural *and* economic issues in Cali, gets the shoddy treatment from the press and then get *blamed* for it from supposed "Conservatives" who should know better but fall for this media-disruptor trick and STILL AFTER BEING SHOWN ITS UNWARRANTED THEY second-guess a candidate WHO HAS HAD THE CORRECT POSITION ON THESE MATTERS THE WHOLE TIME! GRAB A CLUE!

If you cant see how Simon is 1000% better than Davis and Leftist-Twit Democrap Lege in Sacramento, you've been in the sun too long! letting Davis win again and he'll hand off education policiy to virulent Gay Advocate groups ... if you think somehow whining wrongly about Simon's supposed positions helps the 'traditional values' citizens, you are demented! It's what the Leftists Want! DOH!

Support Bill Simon for governor! Unite or suffer the consequences of defeat!!

Clearly there are too many single issue people out there that will crucify Simon out of their gullibility.

Very well put! They dont trust Simon but they trust the word of folks they are in vehement disagreement with. Strangely gullible folks they are!

Or perhaps, some of you just get irritated when lies are spread about the man and he takes the time to tell the truth! I will never understand why "Republicans" (even Conservatives) participate in cutting one another down.

The dont call the GOP the "stupid party" for nothing!!! Frankly, I forgot how such boneheads like Davis and Boxer got in there in the first place ... AH! Then I remembered how a great conservative candidate for Senate was knocked off the pace by a bogus story about him going to strip bars ... thanks to that media 'planted story' right before the election that turned off some 'traditional values' voters Cali has 10 YEARS OF LEFTIST/FEMINAZI/CLINTONBOOTLICKING TWIT BARBARA BOXER.

Expect the "media disruptor" stories to try to tarnish Simon

It's in Davis' playbook. Davis has under 50% re-elect and he can only win if Simon is trashed publicly by his base and the center. It's expected ... the sad thing is the folks who get upset over it rather than seeing it for what it is, uniting behind Simon and moving on to take the Gov mansion.

Simon's positions are clear. He'd veto pro-gay bills that Davis SIGNED. He'd be a pro-family and pro-kid Governor. He wont stuff the courts and agencies with pro-gay activists, leftists and socialists. He'd end the special interest lcokhold in sacramento. IF HE MERELY A MODERATE IT WOULD IMPROVE, BUT HE IS THE MOST CONSERVATIVE STATEWIDE CANDIDATE IN MANY YEARS!

These "conservatives" believe a single story in a trash-liberal rag over the consistent public statements of the candidate. And they blame the 'candidate' for their own lack of commone sense! Go figure!

Goldstategop ... where do you stand on these issues? How can we trust that you're a conservative and not a disruptor? Please tell us who you agree with on each of these items:

Bill Simon supported Proposition 22, the Protection of Marriage Initiative and continues to support it. Gray Davis opposed it.

Bill Simon demanded a veto for Assembly Bill 25, which created state-sanctioned domestic partnerships. Davis signed it.

Bill Simon believes in marriage ONLY between a man and a woman.

People still listen to radio, no? Gray Doofus is still outhitting Simon on the radio ad front, for better or worse.

Davis has more money is the reason! ... If you want to help Simon, throw a bumper sticker on the car, volunteer to walk a block, and forward the emails from the campaign. Every little helps. As another poster mentioned, the early money has less effect , so Simon may be using less. And he said Davis still is under 50%... yehaw! The main danger is Davis 'defining' Simon. He needs grassroots help to counteract that.

Especially when the issue is and should be Gray Doofus himself,

BTW, Simon may end up holding back and disapponting you in that manner ... BUT THAT IS GOOD CAMPAIGNING!!! It is exactly how Bush won Texas Gov race in 1994. "The High Road" The fact is, most Cali's have made up their mind about Davis. Simon may help to remind them of what a sleaze he is, but if he overplays it he become "just another politician" and polician-vs-politician is a race DAVIS would win. Simon's best strategy is to show a POSITIVE alternative and just gently remind them of Davis' negatives. Which is about where he is playing it ... Correctly.

'nuff said.

Remember when GWB ran for govenor in Texas. He would not endorse or run on the party platform. In that ase how could you just accept that he was a republican and just vote for him? The (R) didn't tell you anything about him or his beliefs.

Yes, I remember that ... on a few MINOR issues, the hard-right got unhappy but the MAIN affect was that Conservative Republicans took the Governorship in 1994, extended gains in 1996, by 1998 won *all* the statewide races and now control both the Senate and the House ... back in 1994 the House, Senate and most statewide offices were controlled by Democrats!! Today the republicans dominate in Texas, in large part thanks to G W Bush and his two great races in 1994 and 1998.

So if you point is that focussing on WINNING sometimes requires looking at what will win VOTES rather than what satisfies the purity requirements of some folks. FIRST the votes, then the POLICIES. "Sorry, I will never just accept the party line." You say ... Well, so do intelligent politicians running for office!

The (R) didn't tell you anything about him or his beliefs.
Anyone who cant tell the difference between Conservative Republican like GW Bush and Liberal Feminist Democrat Ann Richards is someone who cant tell a horse's rear from a horse's head! You'll get on the horse and end up going the wrong way! :-)

The damage will only be completely DONE if these same folks decide NOT go to the the polls and vote for Simon in the November elections. If they REALLY want change they'll work FOR Simon rather than AGAINST him!

Actually, I'm gonna vote for Davis. A series of crushing defeats at the hands of liberals is the only thing that will energize conservatives into demanding uncompromising candidates, whether it be in the GOP (unlikely) or a third party. And until such principled candidates come along, conservatives who have dropped out of politics because the GOP has betrayed them will remain on their couches.

They're sick and tired of the "lesser of two evils" mantra, Log Cabin Republicans, and pandering to reconquistas.

Maybe when the La Raza fanatics take over the southwest and Mexico tries to annex everything from California to Texas people will wake up and smell the coffee.

You can't have it both ways. You either accept the party platform as the basis for voting the party label or you find out about the candidate regardless of the party label. Which is it?

Then you'll have no cause to bitch and moan when Davis gets re-elected and things REALLY go into the toilet in California because it is extremely unlikely that a third party candidate would EVER win a statewide election. This "I'm gonna take my ball and go home" action has been tried before, remember, and what did we get? BILL CLINTON!

On the other hand, if those disaffected conservatives will get off their whiny butts and vote FOR Simon, even if they can't bring themselves to campaign for him, maybe he'll get elected and they'll see that there IS a difference between him and Gray-Out Davis!

I'm in MA where we'll have a choice between a super liberal Feminist Democrat (because that's who will win the primary), and a Repub. who used to be a vocal conservative before he ran against Teddy K for the Senate a few years ago, then he weenied out because the Country Club Repubs. up here don't like conservatives. Though I won't campaign for him, I WILL vote for him because I don't want the Democrats to have COMPLETE control of the governance of this state!

Not quite - I want it made clear to EVERYONE here...

I want to know if these guys are determined to sink good conservatives. If this is the case, then they are no better than John Warner and Donnie DiFrancesco, and are acting in a manner that aids the Left.

"I want to know if these guys are determined to sink good conservatives."

Just reading thru this thread and the one last week on this issue, you can sorta see who's offering Constructive Criticism and who're the Trolls...log it in yer Memory Bank and bust the Trolls when you see them in the future!!

Some folks are scared to death that the Conservatives in this Country will unite...while others are just as concerned that the GOP will unite around a moderating of traditional GOP rightwing positions. We need to take the second group seriously, while the first group deserves our scorn and opprobrium.

His campaign has become a "Comedy of errors."

No kiddin', his handlers have blown every single opportunity to make ol'Bill stand toll. So far they f---ed up every single way hands down.I bet ol'Low Beam Davis is already preparing his acceptance speech as a second term governor as we speak.Simon at this point is dead in the water.
I hate to say this, but the writing is on the wall...with or whithout Bill's help, they have screwed up royally, so far...I my self, I am very dissapointed about the current state of affairs of Bill Simon's campaign for CA governor.
