"Must be smoking the same stuff as the new crew at the NYT."

That was sarcasm.

.....Disaster in current usage implies it is the result of natural or unknown or unknowable forces.....

Population of Zimbabwe - 12.5 million White population of Zimbabwe - 40,000 and declining

Looking at the battle as 'the white population of Zimbabwe against the black population' would be far too simplistic.

Each of those white-owned farms typically had its own onsite village of farm staff, who served as labor and supervisory management of farm operations. The farm staff were culturally and economically aligned with the farmers, and formed the major base of the MDC Party. Had the farmers looked ahead and formed an armed defense system that included their staff, the combination of farmers with their staff would have been unbeatable. It was British disdain for mixing with the locals, and disdain for self-defense, that did them in.

Mugabe has scorned criticism that the state-backed invasions of white-owned farms that began in February 2000 are a reckless, racist land grab that will destroy an agricultural sector whose surplus output for decades has rescued other African countries from starvation.

The domino effect, Zimbabwe starves, other African countires next...But the other African leaders don't condemn Mugabe, perhaps they lack the legitimacy to do so.
