I worked for Home Depot. I can bet most of that is employee theft. After my shift one day, I grabbed a few things I needed and went to a checkout. She was flabbergasted that I was actually paying.
Home Depot writes a 2 percent loss per month due to theft into each stores sales. As long as they are below that 2 percent, they dont care. Most stores have cameras inside that don't even work.

241, thanks. Next time I'm in Pine Bluff, I'll stop in.
BTW, if your ever in Hershey, let me know.
Our local walmart is half closed right now because they are doing reconstruction into one of those super marts. I love it. Years ago, I met Sam Walton during the negotions for the property for this store. Quite a good guy I can say.

Actually, we are treated just fine at Costco and they have a terrific return policy.

Yes. I don't agree that the constabulatory should be allowed to randomly stop and check me unless they have reason to believe I've done something wrong. Law enforcement should not be a statistics game.

"We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."More importantly, I reserve the right to refuse to do business with anyone. If enough people decided to return their purchases rather than show the hall monitor their bathroom pass then some of these stores might get the point.
KMart has enough problems with its image now. I don't think they can afford to piss off even 2% of their customer base.

I worked for Home Depot. I can bet most of that is employee theftBingo! This is from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. website--
"Whereas most publicity focuses upon shoplifting, statistics indicate that employee theft accounts for as much as eight times the loss accrued from shoplifting. Either way, the cost to business management is in the billions of dollars. And guess who helps to recoup these losses? That's right... we the consumers."

Law enforcement should not be a statistics game. Based on the statistics they need to spend more time watching the employees than the customers....

Fry's has been doing inspections for some time, giving rise to the perjorative term "Door-Nazis". Many people such as myself simply walk by the checkpoint and refuse to stop, since Fry's is not a membership store. Essentially they take advantage of your good nature and ask you to voluntarily waive your freedom (and your dignity) to help them control their shrinkage. "Freedom?" "Dignity?" You're joking, right?
It's their store. They can check your items against your receipt if they want. You don't have to patronize Fry's, but when you do, you play by their rules; you pay their prices, you agree to their warranties and return policies, and, if your local Fry's is anything like mine, you suffer ignorant on-the-floor help. But if you aren't a thief, you haven't a thing to worry about.
It's ridiculous you think this is worth getting worked up about. Grow up.

Interesting view... I think I will try that sometime... I like it... :-)

I think they should profile people and only stop those that fit the profile.

MY TWO TACTICS 1. Put a big grin on your face and walk right past the inspector saying "NO THANK YOU!" (Like he is trying to sell you something.) 2. If you don't need the receipt, hand your receipt to the inspector and keep walking. Say "je ne parle pas englais" if they try beckon you back. I do #1 at computer stores like CompUSA and #2 at Costco.

I agree. This seems so silly. No one makes this person shop at Fry's. If their policy upsets you, don't go there.
