If it must get specific, then call me an "American black." If not, plain ol' "American" will do quite nicely.

A few years ago, a black guy called in to Rush Limbaugh's show. I don't recall the topic of discussion, but near the end of the call, Rush asked him as an aside whether he preferred to be described as black or African-American. The man rejected both, insisting on being known as an American.

I heard over the weekend that there are more black men in prison than enrolled in college. Not good.

It is true and it's not good. I make no excuses for anyone.

Do the crime, do the time.

His listing of the "lingering effects of slavery and racism" as #11 was a very nifty device. Apparently, it was almost too subtle for some..

It certainly was. You see that I explained it quickly. It threw a couple for a loop. But that was okay, though.

I'd guess that only a couple of folks care about either one of those.

You're probably right.....

Neither deserve to be in the top 20.

What about the Confederate flag? I thought that was the root of all evil?

I'm one who declares it is impossible for me to care less about the Confederate flag.

Whoever wants to fly it, fly it. Big friggin' deal either way.

Today's headline in the local rag was "Blacks are jailed at higher rate". We've had some racial tension problems recently. It mentions nothing about blacks committing crimes at higher rates.

The media's agenda is sooooo transparent.

Actually, the problems began thousands of years ago, IMHO.
Africa, you see, was entirely isolated until recent history.

Then how do you account for the successful Haitian
community in Florida?  It is my understanding that
they do not embody the major black American
culture, but more of a self-sustaining entrepreneurial
society.  That have done so well they are resented
by the American black community.

It only takes a generation or two (or used to, anyway)
to melt into society, tossing off ancestral failings.
Africa itself is no excuse for tenth-generation Americans.
