Let's not forget who is pushing this description of "paper terrorists". It is the Southern Poverty Law Center, which is a virtual treasure trove of disinformation on the left. These are the guys who consider groups like the Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership to be "hate groups". I wouldn't be surprised to find FreeRepublic to be listed as a "Hate Group:" by the SPLC. If you take all of their output and discount 60 percent of it, you might find a kernal of truth.

If the SPLC is against these people, it makes me wonder if they might be doing something right.

I really hope you annoy one of these folks and get your credit ruined based on false court filings.

The Posse Comitatus in question is about 40-50 miles from me in & around Tigerton in Shawano county. They wanted to found their own township, Tigerton Dells, starting back in the 70's. All kinds of groups have bought their horse manure. And a lot of Posse have ended up in jail and prison for putting fake leins on property of various public officials, for passing fake money orders before the Montana Freeman did. At least one Posse guy lost their farm because they failed to pay taxes on it for years (the aforementioned "Tigerton Dells," now an ATV park owned by either the county or the real township--I can't remember which). I remember at least one armed standoff (this was back in the mid-70's). They're also not that fond of Jews or blacks, not fond at all. Do a google search to see what I mean. I am NOT going to post any material a link because JimRob doesn't permit posting from racist and antisemitc sites.

If you think what they've done is a good idea and are thinking about doing it yourself, prepare yourself to spend a lot of time in court and possibly doing some serious jail time.

And another homegrown wacko, David Winn Miller, is certifiable. From what I've seen on his website, probably paranoid schizophenic.

Lovely people.

Those who like these people--for whatever misguided reason--deserve to be on the receiving end of their tactics for a while.

I don't think what they are doing with the liens is a good idea, and I think the description of "maritime law" is silly. My post was disparaging of the credibility of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a virtual legal pimp for the Clinton administration. If you think they are credible, wait until a group you belong to is labled as an "right wing extreme hate group".

I feel sympathy for the people who are taken in by charlatans who preach simple solutions to the destruction of property rights and the misinformation about the Constitution created by the leftists in this country. I was in Wisconsin when the "posse comitatus" was formed, and it started to get some traction with people who were fed up with unconstitutional laws. When people learned of its particulars, it lost all credibility. People see their rights violated all the time. They see politicians who refuse to follow their oath of office. They see the OldDomiantLiberalMedia tell lie after lie. It is not hard to understand that they turn to a fast talking charlatan who claims to have the answer.

The SPLC trys to put everyone opposed to socialism and for enforcement of the Bill of Rights under its umbrella of "extreme right wing hate group:".

They're very unpleasant. I should make on addition: the folks behind the fake money order scheme was a group called "Family Farm Preservation," led by one Thomas Stockheimer. It was a successor group to the Posse. Here are two stories about the fake money order trial in federal court and the appellate decision:

Morris Dees and the SPLC are one of the most dangerous intelligence gathering operations in America.

The Posse members I've had contact with use the court system when it suits them (frivilous lawsuits, fake leins, etc.), but claim the courts have no jurisdiction over them when it doesn't suit them. Their recruitment tool was, as it still is, is an anti-tax message wrapped around a hatred of Jews first and blacks next.

The Posse members I've known (and they aren't just limited to Shawano County, but are scattered about in Brown County, Kewaunee county and a couple other counties in this area) are virulently antisemitic and racist.

As far as the accountant in the story goes (the one who filed bankruptcy on the public officials), I expect him to be charged with bankruptcy fraud, and if convicted, I expect him to do some very serious federal time.

Well, since their mug shots are up and some are behind bars, looks like these anti-government warriors have lost their battle. They are going to have some time to think things over; perhaps they may come to the realization that, in combating government, the primary objective is to remain uncaught. To remain uncaught requires that one remain un-joined.

No, they just usually decide to shoot cops when they get pulled over. We had a Freeper decide to do this recently.

He wasn't a FReeper. He lurked, he made a few posts.

By a standard that includes him ... You're a FReeper... I'm a FReeper... Murrymom's a FReeper...

Do we really want to go there?

I like the Orwellian term 'paper terrorism.' The attack on the Israeli airlines in LA is not terrorism, but these nuisance filings are terrorism. I suppose Napster is terrorism as well and that guy those used the magic marker to defeat a CD copy protection scheme, also a terrorist.

You give them too much credit. There have been huge exposes done on this organization. They are not poor and have nothing to do with poverty. They raise huge funds which is their primary task and spend very little on anything other than fundraising. They are a self appointed hate group monitoring organization which unfortunately got the ear of FBI during the Clinton years. They make people think the Klan is going to ride again and use this to extract donations.

“Paper terrorism” appears to be an individual's description not a formal description of the crime involved.

The SPLC is a left wing hate group, but they also opposed the American Nazi Party. I am sorry, but this will not get me to support the Nazis. The enemy of your enemy is not always your friend.

For some reason, seeing him write like that, about becoming a "Postal-In-Spector" reminds me of the columns of T. Herman Zweibel...

Wasn't there a movement among some linguists or philosophers which held that the key to much human misery was the verb, "to be" and its conjugates?

As I recall they tried to speak and write without ever using "be" or derivatives such as "is" (no, Clinton was not a member of this movement), "was", etc.

Reminds me of the fellow who (honest!) wrote a 50,000-word book without once using the letter "E". Since the book was about teenagers, he was really up against it. He refused even to use abbreviations such as "Mr." because when spelled out it contains an "E". Also numbers such as "7" for the same reason. Written in the days of typewriters, again as I recall, he tied the "E" key down on the keyboard to prevent an accidental "E" creeping in...
