It has been a rotten couple of years for political guru Bob Beckel, who parlayed his fame as Democratic nominee Walter Mondale's 1984 campaign manager into a career as a ubiquitous television pundit.
First the 53-year-old spin doctor, a recovering alcoholic, fell off the wagon and checked into rehab after coming under fire in December 2000 for his efforts to persuade Republican presidential electors to betray their party affiliation and vote Al Gore into the White House. Then came his contentious, prolonged and expensive divorce from Georgetown University golf coach Leland Beckel, his wife of 10 years and the mother of their two young children.
But the worst development was last Friday, when Journal newspaper reporter Lauren Dunn -- relying on a search warrant filed Aug. 26 in Alexandria Circuit Court -- revealed that Beckel allegedly paid a Fairfax County woman a total of $1,900 to perform sex acts at his Bethesda home in late June, and then was the victim of a $50,000 extortion scheme as the woman and two associates allegedly threatened him with public exposure.

Think about this - this master strategist - brilliant political guru - Clinton defender ----------- wrote this prostitue and extortionist TWO personal checks!!!!!!!!! One for $600 ( Tiff get $300 per hour) and another for $1300!
After his loss (and much to his credit), Walter Mondale said: "When I was a kid I wanted to run for president in the worst way..... And I did."
Mr. Beckel certainly deserves much of the credit for that.
His life is becoming a train wreck. Sounds like the guy could use a few prayers.
He's so eminently qualified to be a DemoRat candidate for office, he should begin working on a future campaign immediately.
As long as I never have to listen to his putrid Democratic punditry any more, I couldn't care less what happens to him. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Jerry Springer.....yes, that Springer, of lowlife of TV trash fame.....who was once the Mayor of Cincinnati, also wrote one of the ladies of the evening a check.
Of course, this ruined his political career. But lowlife Springer knew where he would be welcome, and sure enough his TV trash media pals resurrected him and sent him on to fame, fortune and syndication.
Moral of the story: If you're going to do something as stupid as writing a check to a prostie, better have a support system in Hollywarped.
Paradigm DemonRrat candidate....he'll win by a large margin.
Although, if we award a Schadenfreude-of-the-Year prize, Beckel's got it wrapped up.
How does it feel Bob to be reneged on an agreement?
Were those electoral voters you tried to switch tied to an agreement? Hmmmm?
God, you're good.........the prize is not a bad idea for a FR continuing project.
