A news item is circulating on the ma.firearms newsgroup.

A NH man who "lawfully" owns firearms in NH drove into MA recently and was stopped by the police for some minor infraction. They then tossed his car and found six .25 cal rounds in the back. Because he does not possess a MA LTC, he was immediately booked and jailed for felony possession of ammunition without a MA firearms permit. He is out on bail and according to the article, MA is coming down on him like a freight train, to "make an example" of him.

Out of staters, take note.

On the other hand, it is outrages like this that wind-up in the SCOTUS...

"The question remains as to what point does resistance go from passive to active? "

Interesting question. This question is asked by Henry Bowman in John Ross' "Unintended Consequences." It's in the chapter entitled "May 7, 1973." Henry is speaking to Professor Arkes. "Professor Arkes, I don't disagree with the basic principle, but it's not enough just to say 'Totalitarian regimes are wrong, so don't let the State enslave you.' That's like saying, 'Don't get sick.' The important question is, when do you know it's going to become enslavement? When is the proper time to resist with force?"

"When is the proper time to resist with force?"

It is a question that is central to the thrust of this very interesting and thought provoking book and I just thought I would mention it here.

Some thoughts along this line. Posturing, blustering and making empty threats are of no use. It might be wise to remember the old axiom, "When you strike at a king, strike . . ."

I've read Ross' book. It was an interesting and awakening, (I've been awake about this issue since Ruby Ridge) read.

I agree that when it becomes time to strike you have to be fully committed to your course of action.

I've often thought of having like minded gun owners putting together a call tree. When an abuse is committed by one of the alphabet soup agencies the call tree is activated. The government might be a little more cautious in their behavior if a couple of dozen concerned citizens showed up with video cameras, digital cameras, tape recorders, and whatever else they needed to bring. They can't stand the light of publicity on their illegal actions. Plus by showing the population that it is not just some, "Right Wing White Supremacist hiding in the mountains" but the average Joe living down the street maybe we can wake up a few of the Sheeple.

I love it when I read about someone who, while unlisenced and breaking the law by carrying a concealed weapon, was able to save a life by using it against some thug attempting to comit a crime. Ordinarily, if caught carrying a concealed weapon illegally the police would confiscate the gun, lock the individual up on felony charges, fine the person and restrict his right to ever again own a gun. But for some reason in such events as stopping a crime or saving a life, most DAs won't bother pressing charges because they know that no jury would ever convect the concealed carry law breaker, aka, the hero. I suppose that only the gun haters have the intellect to rationalize all the anti gun laws, especially in CA.

Too bad that person who happens to stop a violent crime (robbery/rape) by committing another crime (carrying a loaded concealed weapon) cannot sue the district attorney for not enforcing the law to the best of his abilities. Then, when the jury trial of the district attorney is held, the plaintiff could ask that the person he saved be a witness for the prosecution, that the victim clearly saw the plaintiff remove a concealed weapon and shoot the attacker. A few lawsuits like this where the DA has to press charges on good samaritans and juries refusing to convict on CCW cases should turn the tide.

But, realistically, who in their right mind would risk prisontime to force their elected officials to follow the Bill of Rights and the Constitution? Better to go home with some scraps of privileges that your master threw you like a dog thrown a bone by his owner.

(Besides, who's going to be reloading more ammunition for the time of 'active' resistance if you are in jail?) ;)

Get a case of 16 penny nails.

Drill out a old broom handle or thick dowel to accept the head of the nail for a bit of its length. If possible glue in a small nut that will fit and prevent the nail heads from eventually worming their way up the handle.

Put nail in broom handle hole, place against ground, poud in.

Salt the yard, woods, every where, especially by tree roots.

Now let them play where is the gun?

Not a bad idea. Some web sites (like KABA) do try to identify and publicize the abuses, but more active, local attention could be of benefit.

I did say to bring whatever else they needed! If that means bearing arms by all means!

I'd also run a relay of handing off tapes and film to passing cars for instant publication on the web.
