Your sisters have probably been suckered by the NARAL/choice argument. I know females in similar situations. They just 'know' that they're supposed to be democrats because the pubbies want wimmins barefoot and pregnant and want to outlaw birth control or some such happy horsesh$t.

Thank you Tailgunner. Defeatism is so French. We can stand and fight and beat these dim-minded sheep.

Please visit the NE's large cities. Immerse yourself in their 'culture' and tell me there is reconciliation possible.

I don't know what you're referring to specifically, but a lot of what's objectionable is characteristic of modern American cities and not of any region. Are the goings-on in Atlanta, Phoenix or Dallas all that different from those in Seattle, Boston, or Chicago? I'd imagine many "red zone" cities have a wilder nightlife than Milwaukee, Buffalo or Philadelphia.

TV and mass marketing have made the country more uniform. Everyone who has a TV has probably been exposed to today's cultural rot, wherever they live.

And even in the Northeast, I'd imagine that the image is "Will and Grace" and the reality is "Married ... with Children." The image is of gays and swingers, but the reality is as often the kind of hardworking, religious, family people who were killed at the WTC.

It may be that urban America is decadent and depraved, but drawing borders to isolate the rot would be very difficult indeed.

Affluent yuppie strivers are the same South and West, North and East. The real dividing line isn't where they live, but when they have kids. You won't be able to keep them wholly out if you want to have a modern, functioning economy, and they bring their manners with them.

And even if you do, there's a trickle down or spill over of affluent decadence and immorality to those lower down on the social scale. America in the Forties and Fifties had been able to push drugs and promiscuity to the fringes of society. They've been creeping back up or down to the middle classes wherever you live, unless you're very lucky.

That's not to say that resistance is impossible, but secession or division looks like a bad bet to me. So long as people have leisure and affluence, you can't keep the initial commitment to virtue going, and things will start to creep back closer to what they are now.

Thanks for the ping BA. I have to agree with Diane Alden's pessimistic outlook for our constitutional republic. Ever greater socialism is already “baked in” with current demographics and nothing short of divine intervention is going to change it. Then again, the creation of America was nothing short of a miracle, so we might have God on our side on this.

All my three sisters are (1) ardent Democrats and (2) have a dismal knowledge of current events and economic facts. The two situations seem to go together.

I've seen similar things too. Bottom line is: if one treasures freedom and small government, don't let women vote.

Of course I was joking. I'd never advocate that. No, Never. Not me. No. Just kidding. Don't like those people in the white jackets.

You are fundamentally correct, I think, in your assessment of American culture as it exists today. As the Third World invasion of America continues, such a culture will no longer exist. We see signs of it today, not so much in "blue zone" cities like Seattle and Boston, but in areas that have received mass Third World immigration. And it will only get worse.

bingo!! You are correct sir I mean madam. On separate occasions and independent of each others presence, I asked two of my sisters and my girlfriend why they voted Democratic. The first words out of their mouths was that they were concerned that teenage girls would not be able to get abortions if the Republicans won. Which leads me to wonder how they would vote if the Republicans suddenly championed abortion on demand and the Dems opposed it. I'll bet their allegiances would change instantly.

From what I've observed, abortion seems to be the holy cause far above all others to female Dems. That is really the only thing they seem to care about.

teenage girls would not be able to get abortions...

So next time, casually ask your sisters/friend what they think of the state providing medical care to kids w/o parental consent...then work around to that being the case with the parental notification laws re: abortion. Also, the 'logic' behind these laws is supposedly that some families are so abusive the girl simply couldn't ask her parents on her own...hello, if the family is *that* abusive why is the state sending her back when it's done with the abortion? I think they know the parents would get upset...what parent would *not* get upset knowing their 13yr old had been having unprotected sex enough to actually get pregnant? Sheesh...
