it means exactly this....Peggy can and does
get it said, whatever needs saying. If Peggy
had only two GEORGE PATTON genes as well,
she would be a general or a president.
Like
Rushs' absence from a tv show, or Fox not
featuring THE GEORGE WILL HOUR , Peggy's
lack of brittle makes this trifecta good
at what they do,not the best they can be.

To me.

Where would we be if the shadow hadn't come, if 8:46 a.m. that day had not happened? Where would we be if the whole day had been as peaceful as its start?

Where would we be?
Probably continuing to be concerned about communist China, who you will all recall at the time had just released our servicemen who they had been holding as hostages, and then tore apart the plane and offered to let us have it back piece by piece if we paid them a few million dollars.
How soon we have forgotten!

He was probably last seen going up the stairs. He was a man of the heart and the cross.

Greater love hath no man than this,
That he lay down his life for his brother.

Peggy Noonan is a warrior and a poet. She, Mark Steyn, and a pitiful few others both "get" this country, love what it's about, and express those understandings with eloquence and grace. No wonder Reagan cherished her.

Peggy has put America into words...

God bless her.

I read a piece by Noonan in Readers' Digest.

She described how firefighters and cops crowded around a chaplain at ground zero, under the burning towers.

They knelt, received conditional absolution. Then they shouldered their gear and went in.

As she pointed out, they knew they weren't coming back. And they went in anyway.

Remember these brave souls.

Rushs' absence from a tv show
I think you are missing something important. And something just came back to me that seems to illustrate it. Back in the '80s when the lefties were fond of criticizing Ronald Reagan's movie career, Parade magazine had an article on the subject--and I liked the conclusion, which was
Could Reagan act? Yes.
He always played himself.
It is a heartwarming role.
And I think that is somehow related to Rush, and his radio show. On the radio Rush--having done his homework--goes into his live, unscripted performance. He is portraying himself, on the fly.

We all do that, all the time--but you'd get bored listening to me doing it. Himself is able to be interesting doing that, day after day and year after year.

The point is that his TV show was scripted. In effect it was journalism--rapidly put together scripting read by, in effect, an anchor. So it was Rush, but Rush playing someone else's game. Kind of an infomercial for political conservatism.

And it's not like Rush just shows up at the radio studio and wings it; the time and energy put into show prep, added to 3 hours actually on-air, amounts to a full day's work. Now you add show-prep writing that script for a TV program, and a half-hour spent reading that script, and if you kept up with him for a day nobody would have to tell you you had put in a day's work!

That TV show just wasn't his game, and he was right to pull the plug on it to avoid burnout. OTOH he now has the web site and the dittocam, and he can show people graphs and even video clips if he really wants to. It's not as accessible as a TV channel, yet. But . . .

Yes, but she had to grow a little first. Her first book, I think she would tell you, came from inadequate understanding.

Great find! Thanks.

Peggy is an incredible WORDSMITH and never fails to express the emotions I'm feeling but cannot bring to words.

It's going to be a long time before we get used to the idea that 343 of them lost their lives that day. Or rather gave them. Those 343--they were mostly tough Catholic men with soft hearts from the outer boroughs. They were Italians and Irish and Poles and Puerto Ricans, and they lined up for absolution, received a blessing and ran into the buildings lugging their gear. Their funerals were at Our Lady Queen of Peace, and St. Rose of Lima Church.

I just caught an interview with Peggy Noonan on EWTN. According to Peggy, 90% of those who gave their lives were catholic.

Say what you will against the Catholic Church, but no other religion fosters this same sense of duty and honor in service to others. This applies to the military, as well. 90% gave their lives, selflishly, so that others might live. 90%
