That effort drew a rebuke from Florida's two U.S. senators, Democrats Bob Graham and Bill Nelson, who wrote a letter to Bush asking him to stop interfering with the Democratic primary. ...In their letter to Bush, U.S. Sens. Graham and Nelson wrote that voters should be allowed to decide for themselves,

But, you see senators, it's tough for voters to decide when Bill McLawyer doesn't actually want to say where he stands on any issue.

Speaking out as an independent voter back in APRIL 2002, I pointed out exactly what Gov Bush's campaign is now pointing out to Dem voters prior to their primary.

Here's an excerpt, below, from my editorial. And, note that Bill McLawyer's website at that time omitted ALL mention of the word "ISSUES" :

Where are the BIG IDEAS from Jeb's Opponents?

Excerpt:

Why should any FL independent voter, including me, ever consider voting for …McBride?

I look at McBride's web site and can only learn that: "McBride is on YOUR side."

Whatever "YOUR" side happens to be, well, McBride is there.

He's on it.

He's with YOU. WHOEVER you are. (And you….and you, too.)

He is so much on everyone's "side" that he doesn't bother having any link on his web site to the issues in Florida -- and his position on the issues. Who needs to know THAT? All YOU need to know, if you are a FL voter, is that he's on "YOUR" side.

Smart move by Jeb... after all, Reno will most likely be easier to beat in the election ;0)

I also thought it was very smart that Gov. Bush, as a candidate, has always spelled out his positions on issues for voters. He was the one and only candidate who had done so back in July, and he remains consistent on where he stands.

Does this mean that Janet still has a chance? After all, you aren't EVER going to find her making any statement that is in conflict with earlier statements - primarily because she "can't comment on that". Then and now. Never make a definitive statement, it is impossible to contradict yourself.

This is incredible:

Harris also cited an Aug. 31 Destin Log article that said McBride told a voter he would not pick Reno as a running mate. In a TV debate last week, McBride said he would consider Reno.

Really incredible.

I have predicted she will win. She is pro-gay adoption, and she is pro-everything concerning gays. The Ft Lauderdale SunSentinel editorial board endorsed her candidacy over McLawyer. I think the winner of the Dem Primary is the candidate whose supporters will show up at the polls - and, I think Reno's supporters are fanatics. They will show up at the polls.

Bump for JEB

I really want to see Reno win the primary and go down in flames in November. Is that too much to ask for?

In their letter to Bush, U.S. Sens. Graham and Nelson wrote that voters should be allowed to decide for themselves, and that "Such attack ads, focusing on one of the three Democratic candidates, is unprecedented in Florida, and is an entirely inappropriate attempt by your party to hand pick a November election opponent."

Of course Graham and Nelson had no problem at all with their party's manipulation of the Republican presidential primaries to try to make McCain the nominee, did they? What a bunch of hypocrites!

While I see Bush's point, and obvious desire to help Reno, all he's doing is reminding Democrats he doesn't want to run against McBride. Bush's TV attacks on McBride in August are part of the reason McBride gained traction in the first place. Bush should go back to praying the Democrats self-destruct and nominate Reno. IMHO, Bush's efforts to stop McBride are, and have been, counterproductive.

I also think it's still possible for Reno to win - but it won't be easy for her. As far as endorsements go, the Sun-Sentinel is about the only paper in the state to endorse Reno, everybody else went for McBride. My guess, however, is that McBride will be the Democratic nominee. He got lucky when Bush ran ads against him and a poll the other day showed him beating Bush. McBride might have engineered the poll but Bush's ads against him were a major break. Both of those events have had McBride yard signs popping up like weeds.
