[history]
When Reginald and Jonathan Carr go on trial today for a crime spree now known as the "Wichita Horror," there probably won't be any mention of race.
But that doesn't mean the people of Wichita won't be thinking about it.

These guys have a huge rap sheet and there are Carrs listed for page after page in the district court appearance docket list. Huge disfunctional family.

This sounds like a rather straightforward case. I don't care about hoopla over it just as long as they hang (wishful thinking).
To: kattracks
"The whole purpose of having them (hate crime laws) is that it's more serious to attack a racial group than just a guy." Fact is that it isn't worse, regardless of the race involved. It is "a guy" who dies, not a race.
To: kattracks
. The defense, which tried unsuccessfully to move the trial, released a survey earlier this year showing that 74 percent of county residents said the Carrs were either "guilty" or "definitely guilty." And that's only because "Guilty as Hell" was not a choice!
Needless to say, all hate crime statutes are moronic.

The "Mainstream Media" should be hung in public right beside them. This has been going on for years and has not only been covered up by "Mainstream Media" but also by our Federal Government.Americans have been brainwashed to the point they no longer have a conscience when a white person is murdered by a black, they cower in the shadows and whisper. We deserve what we get.

Hear, hear!
The Carr's can only be put to death once. The PC reporters and their editors who sat on this story deserve to have the images of the victims seared into their minds and their families' minds forever. That is the crime that is now to be prosecuted.

If any of those people would have had a handgun--say a
.45--BAM BAM. The innocent would be alive, the guilty dead,
and no trial would be needed.
To: kattracks
Reginald and Jonathan Carr were merely performing an act of
revolutionary violence/symbolic speech demonstrating
solidarity with all
oppressed peoples of the earth in partial
reparation for years of their
subjugation at the hands of the
white, male, pig oppressor class.
Aren't Reginald and Jonathan the real victims here?
To: kattracks
District Attorney Nola Foulston argued that she couldn't charge the brothers with hate crimes because Kansas had no hate-crimes statute. This is a show-stopping detail that shows why Kansas is not charging them with Hate Crimes.... However, the point that the news media is at fault here still holds.
I'm not familiar wiith this case...
Because the Carrs are black and their victims white, many observers expected the brothers to be charged with hate crimes.
Is this the only basis for "hate" or did the perps say things that would lead you to suspect the killings were racially motivated?

"That sense of racial injustice was exacerbated by the dearth of national media attention on the crime."That's almost an understatement. This happened in Kansas and I live in Nebraska and I don't remember hearing about this. I guess I missed the two-sentence article about it in the local rag.

Thanks for the information. I get the feeling that because this crime was not reported widely and the accusations of a hate crime will give it plenty of press now when it goes to trial. Evidenced by Court TV carrying it live.
What a horrible sick crime this was.

According to the Wichita Eagle "prosecuters will have to deal with inconclusive eye-witness testimony and spotty DNA evidence".
That statement scares me.

Not that it should make any difference, whatsoever.

According to one of the brother's attorney, "we're going to be pointing fingers at each other a lot". It's probably a good thing they are being tried together.
Reginal Carr had personal belongings of the victims on him when he was arrested within hours of the murder. There should be a conviction of both unless someone screws-up big time!!
To: I. Ben Hurt
murder..make that murder(s). Four people were killed plus the little dog of the lone survivor.
To: I. Ben Hurt
Unfortunately, D.A. Nola Fulston is a total incompetent. She blew a murder trial in which the killer of a man and his 2 daughters was caught after driving the victim's car to Florida. She's typical of the "cute girl prosecutors" so beloved by the PC system.

Say..............you're pretty good at that. Of course, it's only a matter of time before we read this for "real" somewhere.
To: Trickyguy
If any of those people would have had a handgun--say a .45--BAM BAM. The innocent would be alive, the guilty dead, and no trial would be needed. I wish that were true. If any of the real victims had capped the perps the media would be in a frenzy that it was a racially-motivated hate crime. Jesse and Al would be flying in to organize protests and we'd all be reminded daily of how institutional racism is to blame.
On an only slightly less cynical note, I'd be happy if the verdict really did put these guys away for life, but given the propensity of our enlightened court system to release this sort of prisoner so they can pack a couple of dope-smokers into that cell, I don't have a real warm and fuzzy feeling. I think that the death penalty should be rare and well-publicized, but I'd volunteer to push the lever on this pair.
To: ozzymandus
She blew a murder trial in which the killer of a man and his 2 daughters If I remember correctly, it was Nola's predecessor that blew that case and helped her defeat him in the next election. I don't know how to research that but that's how I remember it.
According to the Wichita Eagle, her conviction rate has dropped a bunch.
To: kattracks
I was living in Pittsburg Kansas at the time that Stephanie Schmidt was raped, sodomized, and murdered. And thanks to her killer, Donald Gideon, and Stephanies family, Kansas now has a Death Penalty. Gideon got the hard 40", 40 years without Parole. At least these clowns will get what they deserve.

This was truly a HATE CRIME, according to the definitions of the words. These four people were tortured, driven around in their own vehicles, taken to different locations, and while on a playing field, the men were forced to watch the rape of the women, then they were killed.
The MEDIA glossed over this because it was a 'political hot-potato'.
My prediction: David Westerfield will rot in prison (and Danielle's killer will run free) while these two will get away with murder, even though there is plenty of physical proof they did it.
I hope I am 100% wrong.

The murder of any human being is atrocious.
When the murder is done solely based on a difference in 'race', it is termed a HATE CRIME.
The two men that perpetrated this crime did not rob the four students. It wasn't over political difference.
They raped and killed the four students because they were white, and the perpetrators were black. They raped the women in front of the men. They did it in pure HATE and EVIL.
The newspapers suppressed it, choosing to hide the race of the perpetrators.
It is a very touchy subject, apparently. The rules don't work both directions. Even though they should.
It boils down to KILLING someone for FUN, knowing YOU WILL GET AWAY WITH IT, because society if 'afraid' of you.
The individuals that did it should be punished, no matter what race. BUT the crime was done based on race.

Yes, it had a racial component. The fact that rape and murder were involved should have them executed. Anything more is wasted.

Anything more is wasted. I would have to agree. Have a fair trial and if proved guilty, Death penalty for rape/murder and get it over with.
Otherwise it is just fluff to sell newspapers.
Now, if the evidence proves guilt, and they are let go, or given a light sentence, what would your feelings then be?

P.S. Sorry for asking a 'what if' question. Better to wait and see what happens, huh?
I will expose myself, though. I think there should not be any such thing as a HATE CRIME. I think it leads to THOUGHT CRIME.

The two men that perpetrated this crime did not rob the four students. I don't know about it being a hate crime but it did include robbery. They made the students one by one withdraw cash from ATM machines, stole a diamond engagement ring one victim was planning on giving one of the ladies. One brother had a guy's watch, credit card and $996 cash on him when he was arrested. The other brother had the ring. They even hauled off a big screen tv set.(source Wichita Eagle).
I got a jury summons today but I'm in the wrong county. They probably wouldn't pick me anyway because I've pretty much decided on who's guilty.
To: I. Ben Hurt
Thank you for the correction/information. I read about this when it originally occurred, but that has been a while back. The article focused on the rapes and murders. I thought I also remembered that the survivor reported racial remarks by the perpetrators. Is that correct or am I off? I remember there was a distinct reason that it should have been considered a hate crime.
