Doe there appear to be a double standard for domestic terrorist actions? Hmmmm

No double standard. If a group benefits those in power, it is accepted. If it is a threat to those in power it must be destroyed.

Thanks for the ping.

There was a time--a long time ago--that I called myself an environmentalist--these nutcases now make me shun the word!!

Try Conservationist. The difference is implied right in the word. Conservationists realize that nature exists for mankind to exploit. We must preserve our natural resources, so that we can exploit them in the future. Environmentalists think that mankind exploiting mother earth is eeeeeevil!

Just think of how many trillions of trees have been saved thanks to the inventiveness of technological geniuses. E-mail has cut paper billing, massive amounts of corporate paperwork and storage have been replaced by hard drives and magnetic tape, etc. IIRC, the western wildfires are exacerbated because there are many TIMES more trees per acre than there were a century ago. The problem now is too MANY trees, not a lack of them!

OOPS! I condensed too much... "E-mail has cut paper billing" should read "E-mail has replaced letter-writing, and online billing has cut paper billing"

Who cares? The act of cutting trees and replacing them removes CO2 from the atmosphere as long as the resulting products aren't burned. I don't know that the net cycle tree-to-wood-to-paper-to-landfill is a CO2 source or sink (since some human and industrial work is required in the above) but it certainly isn't the environmental evil some would claim.

Excellent point--now that you mention it. Back in the days when I was seriously involved, I never called myself an environmentalist.

I would really like to see what these hypocrite wackos are wearing for shoes and clothing--no leather--no wool? Do they know where their polyester clothes and their plastic shoes come from--like maybe those oil wells they so despise!

The act of cutting trees and replacing them removes CO2 from the atmosphere{..}

You do know that trees give off O2 (molecular oxygen), and they remove CO2 from the atmosphere, right?

How exactly does the act of cutting down trees give off CO2? I'll give you the only answer to that question. It doesn't, but instead RAISES the CO2 levels and lowers the amount of O2.

That's why they should be conserved, where we at least replenish the supply with seedlings when we use what we need.

The ELF have made new statements of a call to arms.

They believe that they need to step-up their pressure on society.

I just saw this on the news (they love the Portland media!).

Just take a look at their web-site to see their real thoughts on life, liberty and property.

Incorrect. Yes, cutting down trees and NOT replacing them raises CO2 levels and lowers the amount of O2. But cutting down trees and replacing them decreases the CO2 levels and raises the amount of O2.

Although trees take in CO2 and release O2 during photosynthesis, they also release some CO2 as a by-product of respiration, as most organisms do. When growing vigorously, plants take up much more CO2 than they produce. But as growth slows, the gap narrows.

The effect is that an acre of land with growing trees is more efficient at converting CO2 to O2 than an acre of land with fully grown trees. This is why logging coupled with replanting is good at reducing carbon dioxide levels in the air, especially when one considers that with logging there is less liklihood of forest fires which give off large amounts of carbon emissions.

I was responding there because it appears you were disagreeing with supercat's (correct) point:

The act of cutting trees and replacing them removes CO2 from the atmosphere{..}

Sorry, I didn't see the "and replacing" part of the sentence. My eyes most have been fuzzy from spending too much time on FR.
