FLORIDA REPUBLICAN VOTER COMMENT THREAD (Vanity)
Sept. 12, 2002
Posted on 09/12/2002 7:14:02 PM PDT by Ragtime Cowgirl
Florida Republicans, share your election day stories with the army of journalists covering the "plague" of Fla. election problems. Let visiting pundits know what Florida Republicans have to say about this latest attempt to blame Dem. incompetence and fraud on our Governor and Republicans.
They wouldn't knowingly choose to disenfranchise Florida Republicans, thus mischaracterizing last Tuesday's Florida state primary election, would they?

I had no problem voting in Lee County. A poll worker met us at the door, answered all questions, carefully instructed us on using the new machines. Only one member of our group of ~ eight chose not to listen to the instructions...a senior Dem. woman who said she "couldn't be bothered to listen" and went straight to the voting machine. Simple. I pressed one wrong button...pressed it again and, wow, erased my mistake. My neighbor asked a poll worker for help once. We were finished in minutes...including carefully checking over our final votes before pushing the big VOTE button to lock in our ballots.
Democrats will always have problems with elections because they are instructed to look for problems. Life's funny like that. The more you look for trouble, the more likely you are to find it. Even a police car parked a mile away can be a reason to sue.
Democrats think that there could be such a thing as a "perfect" election. There couldn't, of course, human error's always present to some degree in the real world. Being prepared, learning about the candidates and issues, asking questions when you don't know and carefully following directions is a voter's responsibility.
People voted in Zimbabwe recently at the point of a gun, knowing their vote would most likely be tossed by a crooked leader...they valued the right to vote enough to risk their lives.
Dem. election "fraud" would not be possible without the help of the Dem. press accomplices.
Comments appreciated and will be forwarded to the appropriate pols, pundits, pups and peacocks.

The Republicans in Florida - and throughout the United States - should be screaming from the rooftops that the Gov. of Florida doesn't run the elections in Florida. The Sec. of State doesn't run the elections in Florida. The county Supervisor of Elections of each individual county runs the elections in Florida. And in the two counties with the most problems in Florida have DemocRAT Supervisors of Elections.
Is that such a hard message to get out?

We have. The press knows who's responsible. They have their own agenda. Fair and balanced has nothing to do with it. Seriously.
Please post any comments about primary day. Forwarding to the appropriate people. Florida Republicans are being ignored again by the Florida Rat press.
This is not a ping list.

No problems here, either. Judging by this weeks newsmedia, you'd think that every county and all Floridians were crooked and incompetent...not just the Reno, McBride supporters (I'll delete that before mailing). (^:

Off point here. But how did Charlie Crist win so easily for Attorney general? Whats his stategy, to run for every elective office at least once? Thought Burt was more qualified.

I had no problems voting on computer machines in Roseland, Florida (near Vero Beach). Did have a quick "how to" lesson, since the machines were new, but no trouble after that. No complaints from the other people at the voting place while I was there.
The comments by a person being interviewed on T.V. I thought was right on target. He said if people were too dumb to take a stick and punch a hole in a piece of paper, how could they handle computers.
Also, on the 2000 fiasco, it seems that the counties with the computers had the most trouble with the voting machines. These were in the northern part of the state, I believe. Does anyone else remember this?

When I went to vote at my precient, there was a democrat that was running for the schoolboard standing outside the door. As I got nearer to the entrance, I saw that there was a sign taped to the building which read,"Help stop vote fraud".
I asked the candidate, "See that sign?" He replied with a smile, that he did.
I then told him, "To do that they would have to do away with the democrat political party."
He did not respond. No longer smiling, he walked away.

Time to do it the old fashioned way....write a "Letter to the Editor", and put a 'stinger' (eye-catcher) in it....you'll get published. I'm amazed that I became a regular 'publishee' even in the far left Los Angeles Times.....and watch your spelling and grammar; this is series business!!

I voted absentee ballot so had to fill in those little ovals....I had a swell time!
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
I voted in east Orange county and had no problems, but was at a new precint location due to re-drawing the lines. My wife reported she heard a woman complaining that moving the polling place was some kind of conspiracy to make it harder to vote, and the poll worker was dutifully listening to her complaints and trying to explain the reasons, to no avail.
There were press reports of many ballot cards having problems going through the readers with jamming, and cards tearing (we use paper ballots with the "fill in the arrow" marks). When mine went through fine, the poll worker expressed surprise that it worked, so they must have had some problems. At least there is a paper record that can be manually counted if the machine fails to read it.
I think the problems in Dade and Palm Beach (again) are the direct result of the incompetence of the supervisors of elections, and the failure to properly train poll workers. Attempts to tamper with the results using new equipment they haven't fully figured out may explain some of the problems as well. One thing is clear: it's not Jeb Bush's fault, or Jim Smith's, or the Republican party; the problem counties are all controlled by Rats!

Good one, sport. Did you report this actual case of lawbreaking? We need to hold them accountable...for the sake of our state's future, our sanity and their endangered souls. The Dem. candidate was illegally campaigning in front of a "Stop Voter Fraud" sign? LOL! Was this a Dem. precinct?
Did you have or witness any problems using the new machines?

This is mostly off topic but FOX NEWS had a clip of a polling place and a young man was wearing a T-shirt that said "I support BUSH" (or something to that effect.) Where I vote, it is forbidden to wear any political message or to do any campaigning with 100 feet of the polling place.

At my precinct in Tallahassee, aside from the fact that they looked at me "funny" - "Oh, Republican" (no too many of us here), the workers all smiled and were very friendly. Showed ID, signed, voted (#299), all in maybe five minutes. The kids were given stickers, everyone said bye. An easy, pleasant, experience as far as voting is concerned.
I just have to believe that the bitterness of 2000 is still strong in some parts of this state, and, there will always be chaos down south so as to put doubt into any election. Especially with the dislike for Jeb and President Bush by the rats. Unless Jeb in November, and President Bush in 2004, win by a couple of hundred thousand votes, I think there will be a controversy in southern Florida. ofv

The democrat held counties of Broward and Miami-Dade will never get a voting system that can't be corrupted. The Democrats depend on a corruptible system to try to steal the elections by saying it is all the republicans fault even though each Supervisor of Elections has the power to run Elections the way they see fit. There is a computer system here in Brevard but you still fill out the paper ballot. The computer then reads your ballot and tallies the vote. If however the computer breaks down you could count the ballots by hand.
Broward and Miami-Dade intentionally went to the touch screen voting because there is no hard copy record of voting and computer media are easily corrupted even from a distance. They are having the problems they want to have. If either county Supervisor of Elections wants to refute me then change your method of voting to the one Brevard County has.

I voted in Royal Palm Beach, 13 miles west of El Rushbo. Had no problem whatsoever. Got to my NEW polling place at 1:30 pm. I was the only person there beside the 3 poll workers. One was half asleep in a chair, he was about 80yrs old. The other 2 were women working on the crossword puzzle in the Palm Beach Putz newspaper. Took a whole 3 minutes to vote. Never even saw the new voting machine before election day. My 3yr old could figure it out.
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
He was where he was supposed to be. There was a area designated candidates or their representatives and he was on the boundary. Other than saying he saw the sign, he did not say anything. He was wearing a [candidate's name] Tee shirt.
I did not have any trouble with the voting machine.
I still do not trust the machines because there is no paper trail and the Supervisors of Elections are democrats.

No problem voting in my precinct in Broward (ducking for cover). It was so easy, I voted three times (since there were no poll workers around) so I could test the different functions of the new machine, including the voice-acivation for the illiterate -- worked like a charm. I especially enjoyed the keyboard feature for the write-in votes, (although it wasn't clear how this feature might be used by the illiterate). I also discovered that if you press several buttons simultaneously, chads fall out.
On the way out, I caught a glimpse of Janet Reno driving by in her red pickup truck -- on the sidewalk of course.
South Floridians have the most fun.

Pasco County. I arrived about 7:10. I lurk on FR intermittantly during the day and so had heard via internet and local radio that precincts would be open till 9pm so I did not have to rush to vote after work.
A poll worker was sitting outside the building. The designated "candidate" area was deserted.I walked in and there wwere about eight election workers in view.First greeter asked me if I would like a demonstration of the new system. I said yes, and he demonstrated the new touch screen system very clearly.(I did not need the demo, but he was so proud to show me,so I let him do his job)
I walked to the lettered desk which had my voting registration list next.No problem. I showed my drivers license and SSAN card. Signed the list and was given my Republican slip.I went over to the bank of machines(I think about 8), a poll worker took my slip and offered to assist if I had a problem.I voted. Thanked them when I left for their work. And I also told them I was sorry they had to work untill 9pm.
I WAS THE ONLY VOTER IN THE PRECINCT BUILDING.
On the way back to my car I chatted with the outside poll watcher and told him what the latest radio news reports had said. He did not know exactly why they had to stay open late. I explained the South Florida Precincts problems, and the spurious reports of Dims getting Pubs ballots.
He did not even roll his eyes, he was trying to act so neutral.
I was very proud of my precinct workers.I have absolutely no idea if they were Dims or Pubs.
Sara was impressed by how quickly we were in and out.(it took a tiny bit longer and was more crowded in 2000.)

I am a bona fide senior citizen- grandmother of 8- and deliberately did NOT get a demonstration of the new touch screen system. I had absolutely no problems following the instructions on the screen, voted without any hesitations in less than 3 minutes and was on my way.
Poll workers were prepared, courteous, knowledgeable. Ballot was easy to read and simple to use. I heard similar stories all day, from voters of all ages.
And my Supervisor of Elections is a Democrat- who does a professional nonpartisan job every election. We had no problems counting or reporting- it was smooth as silk.
65 of our 67 Counties got it right. Florida's election was chaotic only in Dade & Broward- just like in 2000.
Not all Florida seniors are incompetent or imbeciles- at least not in SW Florida, we're not. Send the reporters over here to talk to elderly voters who don't whine.
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
I'm a Republican who served as a poll worker in a county (Hillsborough) with a Democrat Supervisor of Elections. Our training was excellent and the clerk (do not know what party) in charge of my assigned precinct was exemplary.
Other people with whom I worked (also of undetermined party) were dedicated and intelligent. Some had taken "personal days" from work to perform their civic duty. All arrived on time (6:00am). We worked in close proximity and I observed the highest quality "customer service". There was no complaint when we were told the polls would be open an additional two hours. All machines remained active until 9:00pm at which time all workers remained to ready equipment for transport to election headquarters.
Voters, who ran the gamut in age, were pleasant and appreciative of our need to request information that seemed redundant. Anyone needing instruction received it on a demo machine (placed in a location separate from the actual voting equipment). We had a steady flow of voters and nearly all were processed quickly. The exceptions were those with address/name changes for which additional paperwork had to be done.
Precinct changes due to redistricting provided the other exception to quick processing. If they weren't in our register, the paperwork was done and our precinct clerk called the elections office to determine where they belonged. Some came to our precinct after going to another that was incorrect. NOT ONE VOTER was turned away. If they left without voting, they had a form in their hand and were on their way to the correct precinct. There were two complainers, both non-minority males, the entire day. One voted and the other was headed to his precinct with form in hand.
Even the most tentative voter expressed approval of the system's ease!
And.....Governor Bush just got blamed again on Hardball. They said he'd just blame it on the Supervisors of Election.
In fact, he praised our Supervisor in a TV interview and suggested she could show the two aberrant counties how to run the election properly.
Ragtime Cowgirl,if this is more than you EVER wanted to know, feel free to edit.

I vote in the Suncoast. Also, my boys and some friends carried signs at the polls for one of our candidates, so we hit a lot of polling places. We saw 2 problems.
At one of the precincts, we couldn't leave the boys, because they arrived late to open the polling place. There was no one there at 7! From what I understand they finally opened about 1/2 hr late.
The other problem (that ticked me off)was at my polling place. The democratic candidate was there, handing his literature to the people before they went in. His people were standing about 20 feet from the door, but he was running all over to make sure they got the paper, and actually got me when I was about 5 feet from the door. I told him he was too close and he said, no he wasn't. I went up to the poll person (an old lady)and she said he was in the designated area. Funny, it didn't look like the designated area to me. But being he was a former sheriff I guess he thought the rules didn't apply to him.

Amazingly, the Counties that had trouble are democRATic Counties. DemocRAT Supervisor of Elections, heavy democRAT turnouts.
Here in Pinellas County, I did have trouble when I voted. But it was corrected within a minute (the person who handed me the card didn't press one button. But I was given another card immediately, and voted with no problem.
But hold on to your hats folks (especially those of you in the Tampa Bay area. The St. Pete Times (Known to us as the Pravda West) actually ran an editorial in today's (9/13/02) saying not to blame Jeb for what happened on election day, but to blame the local supervisor of elections and the poll workers.
You know it's bad for the democRATs whem the Times doesn't attack Jeb for this.

Begala, Clinton, Gore, Conyers, Jackson and co. have been doing their best to keep the "Dem. disenfranchisement" during election 2000 lie alive.
Worldnetdaily called the press's lack of coverage of the massive Dem. fraud and abuse during election 2000 the biggest untold story of that year. I agree. The press needs to hear from Republicans, in numbers that rival the leftist special interest organizations paid e-mailing efforts.

Off topic, but sometimes I think God has a sense of humor... with the terrorist alert on Alligator Alley this morn Reno's sneakiness appears petty and untrustworthy. You don't get it; Freep a little more and you'll see what I'm talking about. BTW, there's another potentially series thing taking place in South Florida today.

Reno lost MORNING HOURS in Broward where they opened late as well as EVENING extended hours when poll workers left two hours early.
Somewhere, they packed up and abandoned an 80 something year old poll worker with all the stuff. He took the ballots home and I think grocery shopping. At least he had custody of them when the other poll workers booked. Had he left the ballots at the polling place, minions would have possibly confiscated and thrown away those ballots. Rush Limbaugh talked about this on Thursday I think. JANET RENO GOT SQUEEZED OUT IN THE AM AND IN THE PM.

I think she should sue. (^:
Broward County's SOE needs to be fired. Check out the Broward FR threads. Alcee Hastings actually dares Jeb to fire Ms. Oliphant, the Broward SOE who put together that GOP-smear instruction video and "supervised" last Tuesday's primary. Ms. Oliphant's African American. Rep. Hastings and Ms. Oliphant along with the DNC and their crime arm..the Fla. NAACP believe that they can once again cry "RACISM!" Florida's black Republicans are getting really tired of the lies from our racist Dem. neighbors.

Freeper comments from summer's thread: Urgent letter from Janet Reno Election Day Voting Problems (w/ voter complaint form (^:).
Did none of these people participate in the process of learning how to use the new voting machines? In my Florida county we had publicity about the new voting machines almost a year ago. Then the election officials took them to public places such as libraries, where people could check them out and ask questions. Plus, we had a one issue vote in March on a school levy (which passed unfortunately!), so people had the opportunity to try out the machines in a trial run so to speak.
So what happened? Did other counties not do the publicity and the education? Or were the voters not interested until Election Day?

I am completely on Reno's side . I think there should be numerous court appeals and lawsuits and re-counts and let Broward County and Dade and Palm vote several more times until they can get it right. Janet Reno as AG always ruled this was the American way and it is only fair to give her the same privileges. Neighboring states should also lend Florida buses to haul the illegal Haitians and Jessee Jackson's folks to the numerous precincts without undue waiting to vote at each stop. Only in this way can Janet be rewarded as the minority becomes the majority as she always insisted. It is her right and just due.

Other know it's a lie. Mike Griffin, an editor of the Orlando Sentinel, just said on Hardball that So FL Election Supervisors are the "greatest threat to democracy" - and as Chris Matthews tried to pin it all on Gov Bush, Griffin said: "No, the blame lies with the DEM ELECTION SUPERVISORS." So, those who know what is going on already know who won this fight (Gov Bush, for spending $30 million to upgrade the FL voting system). And, who are the LOSERS (the supervisors who didn't teach the 70 year old volunteer poll workers how to turn on the machines in Miami and Lauderdale).

And why does this only happen in Dem counties in FL, where elections are run by Dem Election Supervisors, and the voters are mostly Dem? Gov Bush was right to ask what they heck is going on with Dem voters in FL...

My Dear Ms. Reno,
If I am so stupid that I couldn't figure out how to vote, how in the hell do you think I am smart enough to fill out your form?
Yours truly

My favorite story from Miami today was the old gomer who didn't ask for a demo- insisted on struggling through without help. Said he got confused on the screen to "review his votes" erased everything, and and then left without casting a vote, because he was too tired to keep going.
When asked why he didn't ask for help- he said his ballot was supposed to be SECRET- so he wouldn't show it to anybody.
Better NO vote than violate the secrecy.....only in Miami.

My wife and I voted in Sarasota. We produced identification, signed in, voted and left. In under five minutes. Several other people were also voting. No signs of any difficulty whatsoever.
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
Local news had a clip this morning of an irate Reno ranting about how Bush is responsible for the problems in S. Florida. She was saying something to the effect that he had two years (since the 2000 elections) to fix the problems and they have not been fixed - that he did nothing!.
Forget the fact that he authorized some 3.5 million dollars to be spent on upgrading the systems. Many counties got the new touch screen systems.
So, she's decided to start the Dimocrap spin and make this an election issue by trying to blame him for the problems. I hope that most Floridians will see through this ploy. It was truly a disgusting display.

In Miami-Dade, nearly half of the ballots that were still uncounted Wednesday were cast by black voters.
are the ballots stamped with the voter's race??

The problem is not the machines, it's the people using them.
19 posted on 9/12/02 7:31 AM Eastern by Lil'freeperThe Sun Sentinel adds this:-
U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, said nothing Oliphant is accused of rises to the level of misdeeds he thinks were committed by former Secretary of State Katherine Harris in the 2000 election. He said Bush would face the wrath of black voters in the November election if he removes Oliphant.
"I dare the governor to remove her," Hastings said. "He'll create a firestorm that will eclipse the one he created in the One Florida plan. He'll need Katherine Harris to count the votes for him again."
Racism at it's worst.
26 posted on 9/12/02 8:20 AM Eastern by ijcrOliphant compounded her problems by firing all experience workers and hiring all her cronies.
Perhaps the secretary of state needs to send supervisors for the surpervisors. Video cameras to tape constantly the whereabouts of the voting machines.

Hey, has anyone noticed that the three districts that seem to have the voting problems (Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Broward) are the SAME three districts that had the problem in the Presidential election?
Looks to me like no matter HOW they try, no matter what stunts the Dems pull, people keep voting Republican, dag nabbit...
49 posted on 9/12/02 9:44 PM Eastern by DGallandroReno blamed Bush for "abdicating" his responsibilities in the voting precincts debacle, hoping, I suppose, that viewers are too stupid to realize that Jeb has nothing to do with running the polls in Democratic Party controlled Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
TV reporter Michael Putney set the record straight immediately, however. He said Florida's Secretary of State offered to help to Leahy (Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections), and Oliphant (Broward Supervisor of Elections) last week and was told that no help was needed.

Thanks for the info, peteram. She's shameless.
Democrats are bad for the neighborhood. A few rotten crooks are ruining the reputation of the good people of the state of Florida. Florida Republicans have a case...as soon as we have a voice in the courts...the Dems. are in trouble.(^:
