Bush govt scariest in history: Nobel laureate
AFP ^ | 09/14/2002

OSLO (AFP)

THE administration of US President George W. Bush is the most frightening in the history of the US, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jody Williams said Friday, denouncing US unilateralism.

Williams, the coordinator of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) who shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize with her organization, said Bush s administration was the scariest administration of the US history .

He is worse than Reagan, worse than Nixon. He sees the world in black and white, the US activist told reporters in Oslo following the publication of a report on landmines.

Williams said she was opposed to a US attack on Iraq, which she qualified as a violation of international law .

May any country justify a military invasion by calling it a pre-emptive action? she asked. It s illegal. What s interesting is to see what the other countries would do. Shouldn t they join together and do something about it?, she asked. She said the US, the only Western country that has not ratified an international treaty banning landmines, was as a result no better than Iraq, Iran and North Korea, the countries Bush qualified as an axis of evil earlier this year.

Washington has stopped production, use of and trade in landmines, which each year kill between 15,000 and 20,000 people. So why not take the last step then?, Williams asked.

Williams slammed Washington s unilateralism, saying the US has redefined multilateralism: (telling the world) you all must accept my point of view . She said the September 11 attacks on the US have made people afraid of speaking out. Nobody stands up and asks: are we threatening world peace? .

Asked, meanwhile, whether she had any ideas about the identity of this year s Nobel Peace Prize winner, to be announced on October 11, Williams said: At least, I don t support one of the nominations. A right-wing Norwegian MP has nominated Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair to mark their efforts to combat terror and promote peace.

Could it be that President Bush is a realist as opposed to a relativist (read that one as spineless).

It's not a real prize like the ones fore physics, chemistry, medicine, economics, etc. If Kofi Annan and Yasir Arafat can get that award, I won't take any of the other recipients seriously either.

Prove this poppycock, and then we can have a conversation.

Clearly the left sees Bush as a great threat (when they are not underestimating him). He stands in the way of the liberal takeover that Clinton was attempting.

Bush is likely to hold office long enough for the US ecomony to set republicans in office of a long time. I only hope W continues to see "black and white".
Every once in a while he gets mushy, but his stand over Iraq is clear. Go Bush.

I hope the UN assembles an army to stop us. French troops in powder blue helmets would be enough to make me sign up.

Wonder if it was a violation of international law when Clinton did it?

(from Jody's bio!):
...Jody Williams earned a Master's Degree in International Relations from
the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (Washington, D.C., 1984),
a Master's Degree in Teaching Spanish and ESL from the School for International Training, (
Brattleboro, Vermont, 1976), and a Bachelor of Arts degree from
the University of Vermont (Burlington, Vermont, 1972).

Vermont is really in style as a punch-line when telling jokes about educated idiots, isn't it?

Two masters degrees...wonder if this means she was washed out of two doctoral programs...

The "black and white" comment has become an easy way to identify the world view of the person making the comment.

Essentially, they are saying there is no such thing as right and wrong. As self-defined sophisticates like them "know", all truth is relative.

Their reasoning is incredibly sophomoric. It even starts with a circular foundation: If all truth is relative, then you cannot "know" anything, including that truth is relative.

Of course, they are not interested in thinking, reasoning, or truth. They are "into" feelings. (If it feels good, do it.) Thinking about "Right" and "Wrong" might even make them feel guilty.

Still, were Ms. Williams getting any more than she currently is then perhaps she wouldn't have such a bitter, angry and dispeptic attitude towards everyone in her own country.

Heh, maybe I'm wrong.

Remember the final fight scene in "Giant"...

DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS-

There's a yellow rose in Texas, That I am going to see,
Nobody else could miss her, Not half as much as me.
She cried so when I left her It like to broke my heart,
And if I ever find her, We nevermore will part.
[Chorus]

She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, They sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine, And sing of Rosalee,
But the YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS Is the only girl for me.

When the Rio Grande is flowing, The starry skies are bright,
She walks along the river In the quiet summer night:
I know that she remembers, When we parted long ago, I promise to return again, And not to leave her so.

[Chorus]

Oh now I'm going to find her, For my heart is full of woe,
And we'll sing the songs together, That we sung so long ago
We'll play the bango gaily, And we'll sing the songs of yore, and the yellow Rose of Texas Shall be mine forevermore.

[Chorus]

A Black and White world is beautiful, baby.

For example, Hitler was evil (definitely black, honey).

Mother Teresa gets my vote for good (i.e. white).

Clinton (take your pick), evil.

Bush (take your pick), good.

How wonderful is that? A black and white world? Thanks President Bush!

The people who take issue with "black and white" are also the people who feel that we must look at ourselves to understand the 9/11 attacks. When confronted with undeniable evil, they continue to deny that it is really that bad, after all... "Sure 9/11 was bad, but..."

The administration of US President George W. Bush is the most frightening in the history of the US, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jody Williams said Friday, - - -

Yes, Jody, President Bush is frightening and dangerous - in the same sense as used in this conversation following the reunion of Gandfalf, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, in The Two Towers, Chapter V (The White Rider):

‘Perhaps he (Fangorn/Treebeard) also thought you were Saruman,’ said Gimli. ‘But you speak of him as if he was a friend. I thought Fangorn was dangerous.’

‘Dangerous!’ cried Gandalf. ‘And so am I, very dangerous: more dangerous than anything you will ever meet, unless you are brought alive before the seat of the Dark Lord. And Aragorn is dangerous, and Legolas is dangerous. You are beset with dangers, Gimli son of Gloin; for you are dangerous yourself, in your own fashion. - - - and Fangorn himself, he is perilous too; yet he is wise and kindly nonetheless.’

There is nothing more dangerous to a tyrant, than an armed man, or woman (or wizard, elf, or dwarf, for that matter).
