I guess this really raises the issue of how secure our hospitals are with resident islamic types as doctors and nurses. Has any federal agency been charged with background investigations on these types???

Why are students from Ross University off-shore medical school being allowed to intern at "accredited" medical facilities in the United States?

How many other hospitals, other than Larkin which is JCHAO accredited, participate in this scheme? About 17,000 according to the JCHAO website located at http://www.jcaho.org/accredited+organizations/index.htm That figure does not take into account other medical accreditation organizations to which other hospitals may be affiliated.

Who is governing accreditation and what common standards do they apply? (I smell two standards here.)

Read the info from Ross and you decide if you want these folks involved in your medical care.

How is Ross University accredited?

The United States Department of Education (U.S. DOE) has found the accreditation standards used by the Dominica Medical Board to evaluate Ross University School of Medicine to be comparable to those used by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) to evaluate accredited U.S. medical schools. (comment: who the heck is LCME?)

The U.S. DOE has certified Ross University as an eligible institution for Title IV U.S. Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFEL) loans. Students who qualify are eligible to receive U.S. student loans in order to attend Ross University School of Medicine.

There are only four states in the U.S. (California, Florida, New Jersey, and New York), that have a process to evaluate, accredit and approve an international medical school's academic program for the purpose of either licensing its graduates and/or clinical and residency training in those states.

Ross University is one of only a few international foreign medical schools that received state approvals from all four.

2) How is Ross University governed?

Ross University is governed by a Board of Directors, chaired by Timothy E. Foster.  The Board also includes Benno C. Schmidt, Jr., a former President of Yale University; the Hon. William F. Weld, former Governor of Massachusetts and a well known supporter of higher education; and Thomas "Mack" McLarty, the former Chief of Staff to President Clinton.

3) Are RUSM graduates easily able to practice medicine in the United States?

Ross University graduates are eligible to practice medicine in the United States once they pass the requisite licensing examinations. Foreign citizens who do not have permanent residency in the United States can practice in the United States; however they must meet the various Immigration Law requirements. Over 3,565 of our graduates are licensed and practicing or in residency in the United States.

Next time you read your medical care bill, your insurance bill, think about who you are subsidizing. Eunice Stone did me a bigger favor than she knows.

There is a residency appointment list for Ross. Why would you want your name withheld from a residency list?

Why don't these three "students" dedicate a year of their careers to tracking down radical Muslim terror cells. That would redeem them more than the million lawsuits they will be filing.

ADDENDUM TO MY POST: the LCME reviews annual survey data and written reports on all of the accredited 125 U.S. and 16 Canadian medical schools. (from the LCME site:)

Who accredits medical schools? What standards are used to accredit schools? http://www.lcme.org/faqlcme.htm

In the United States, the accreditation status of programs leading to the M.D. degree is determined solely by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). In cooperation with the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS), the LCME also accredits M.D. programs in Canada. To be accredited, programs must meet the national standards described in the document, Functions and Structure of  a Medical School. For further information, refer to the Overview and Accreditation Procedures sections of this site.

Why are there two LCME offices? Which one should I contact?
The LCME is jointly sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA). The AAMC and the AMA each appoint an LCME Secretary and maintain accreditation offices in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, respectively. Primary responsibility for coordinating survey visits, hosting quarterly meetings, and serving as LCME spokesman (the "principal Secretary") alternates between the offices each academic year. In even-numbered years beginning each July 1, the principal Secretary is at the AAMC. In odd-numbered years beginning each July 1, the principal Secretary is at the AMA. Contacts to either office should provide answers to any questions.

Why is accreditation important?
Accreditation signifies that national standards for structure, function, and performance are met by a medical school's education program leading to the M.D. degree. LCME accreditation is required for schools to receive federal grants for medical education and to participate in federal loan programs. Students and graduates of LCME-accredited medical schools are eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). These graduates also have eligibility to enter residencies approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Graduating from an LCME-accredited U.S. school and passing the national licensing examinations are accepted as prerequisities for medical licensure in most states.

How many medical schools are accredited by the LCME? Is (a particular medical school) accredited by the LCME? Is a list of accredited schools available?
Currently, the LCME accredits 125 programs leading to the M.D. degree in the United States; and, together with the Committee on the Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS), accredits 16 M.D. programs in Canada. See the Directory of Accredited Medical Education Programs for a complete list. Lists of accredited schools in the U.S. and Canada also are published each fall in the Medical Education Issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

...

Does the LCME accredit international medical schools? If not, who does?
The LCME accredits only M.D. programs in the U.S. and Canada. There is no single authority accrediting medical education programs abroad. Certain countries have their own processes for educational quality assurance or accreditation, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Mexico, and others. A listing of medical schools around the world, without endorsement or accreditation, is published by the World Health Organization in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

ok, the more i look into this offshore medical training..onshore medical practice situation, the more i smell collusion and abuse.

Middle East expert Daniel Pipes ( http://www.danielpipes.org ) has published several exposes on CAIR during the past few years. The most recent was published in April. According to Pipes, CAIR has at least one individual associated with international terrorism on its board of directors. Siraj Wahhaj was named in 1995 by U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White as an unindicted co-conspirator in the attempt by Muslim terrorists to blow up New York monuments. Wahhaj served as a character witness on behalf of convicted Muslim cleric/terrorist Omar Abdel Rahman who masterminded the New York terrorist plot. CAIR has also criticized President Bush's closing down of the Holy Land Foundation, a front group for Hamas terrorists. In 1998, the chairman of CAIR gave a speech to a group of California Muslims and told them: "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth."") (091302)

do you want to die or what? Arabs have struck at us, so for now we must treat them all as potential enemies. They have room to whine. I applaud, the police, Eunice Stone, and even the media (a little.) If it's the Arabs or America, I say: "so long Mohammed and thanks for Algebra."

Well, Mr. Mohaammed's Butt (isn't that like heresy against the Islamic Faith, to make references to the Great Prophet's body parts?) should have his Visa revoked...

I hope you don't mind my correcting your typo . . .

call me crazy, but i want medical interns who have studied in the united states who have passed american-based exams at american universities and not individuals who can't pass our standards and want to circumvent our structure.

i think it's real interesting that only california, florida, new jersey, and new york have accepted these students.

demographically, those four states also have the highest number of immigrants and also have the highest number of medical facilities/hospitals engaged in the employ of off-shore students.

Restraint is having the curious effect of building antipathy toward Muslims. It provides a blank stage for their demented ugliness. The attitude toward Muslims has undergone a sea-change nearly everywhere -- even in Europe. It is partly why Pym Fortuyn and Le Pen were nearly elected, or why long-term opponents like India and Russia are now staunch US allies.

The three Muslim students, with their sneering and barely concealed hostility, the London "Britain will be Islamic" crowd, and the thousand bloody images they project every day are not cowing the world to dread. Rather they make this of every Muslim, innocent or guilty:
"And therefore think him as a serpent's egg,
Which, hatch'd, would, as his kind, grow mischievous,
And kill him in his shell."

Islam, not just Muslims, is committing suicide.

They are Americans who went to American schools. One is native born, one naturalized. You object not to their nationality but their ethnic origin and the color of their skin. I guess that I know the history of my own ethnic group (Jewish) and how we were treated and my justice gene is being triggered.

Yes, I know that Muslims and Jews are fighting as we speak on the other side of the world and in the past Christians and Jews and Christians and Muslims have fought. I thought that in America, we recognize freedom of religion and let others be.

Medical student: Florida scare was mistake
http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/4080905.htm

In this AP article from Sept 15, the 'students' are uncharacteristically (for a muslim males living in the hated west) humble and no longer are running the 'Euncie Stone is lying' strategy.
