Tri-State NY NJ CT Freeper Holiday Party and Meeting
Saturday December 28th, 2002
1:00 pm
Special guest MadIvan from England
Location Tentative but could be Moran's (downtown) in the WTC area
Moran's

This landmark location, built in 1897, was formally an inn and later became St. George's Chapel during the Depression in 1929. St. George's Chapel catered to the local merchants and residents, which were mostly of Syrian Catholic descent. This area came to be known as "Little Syria." In 1979 the church retired, and the Moran family acquired and converted the site and began operating on December 26, 1986.
It also gives us a place to go to reflect on our Freeper BCM, John Moran who perished on 911 and possibly honor his family.

You can find the current ping list on my home page and I will update it with all who show interest.
Please let me know your ideas and suggestions so this can be a wonderful gathering. I will be emailing back and forth with Firebrand planning the party/meeting.
As the date gets closer I promise to ping you all back to this thread.

I was hoping we could all wear nametags with our freeper names. I found this really nice pin that is Red White and Blue and you write your name on the white section. I have to buy 6 dozen but for 9.95 I think its a good deal and they can always be used in the future for other events.

That is what I thought and since we will only be gathering for a few hours it will be impossible to learn names that quick.
Of course you will never forget me since we both joined FR as posters on the same day...: )

Unless I'm mistaken, what you're proposing is alcohol consumption, and in the daytime to boot! So we're to make some sorry excuse to our wives, sneak out on our chores and take the train downtown in order to gladhand and drink the day away.
Then we'll emerge hours later, blinking and shading our eyes from the sun, straggle home and try to feign sobriety so that the kids won't think Daddy drinks because they cry.
Sounds good.

What about us Mommy's, and Guinness no doubt LOL
Whatever your age, GUINNESS® stout should be consumed in moderation.

I would definitely like to show up for such an event but you have scheduled it for the same time as the Giant's final (home) game of the season for which I have both tickets and great interest, so sadly I would not likely be able to attend. (Even without the conflict I would have preferred an evening meeting time.)

Keep me updated on this outing please. Add me to the "potentially coming" list. Depends on whether or not it's a work night and if I can sneak away from my 3 y/o and my 10 month old for a bit.
To: alisasny
Would you please add me to the ping list.....I'm not that far away..........it sounds like fun!
To: Betteboop; RaceBannon
Can you both post a link to this page on the NJ and CT threads....THANKYOU. I will post the link on the NY page.

When we freeped Hillary at her intentions of running for Senate in Feb 2000, I wrote the after freep report. One unnamed freeper added the name ESCHOIR to the list of people in attendance. Silly me had no clue what the hell was going on and included him on the list of attendees in the post and after action report.....the forum went nuts...I will never forget that.

Moran's is a great choice. I love that place!

All who have shown interest ( I think) have been pinged.
Very nice response to this Holiday party and meet.
I have had an inquiry about hotel rooms in NYC under 150 for that night. If anyone has any links to good deals please add them to this thread.
I contacted Moran's and they want to know if we would like a private room. They are open for regular lunch reservations in the main room but I really dont know how many will attend at this point. I can call back and probably work out a prix fix price for lunch if we take the private room but I don't know yet about deposits.
Does everyone like the tentative location?
Is everyone in agreement about the nametags with Freeper names? I would like to order them soon.
Thats all for now. More details to follow.
Thanks Alisasny

Thanks for the ping.
There is a hotel occupancy tax of over 15% in NYC, so anybody getting a room should ask for the price after tax.
I'm fine with Moran's, and the nametags. It's just that working in retail, I won't know if that's a day off until the week before. Retail Christmas Chaos rules my life in the month of Dec.

I worked in retail for years ( cards and gifts)...OMG December was a killer. We used to have these huge Thanksgiving dinners and I had to be at work by 6 am that Friday. ARGHH how I hated retail. And that was only the beginning, rest did not come until the first week in January and then we had to prepare for Valentine's Day. I live on Long Island and at that time all my district meetings were in NJ, so even that was a project....: ))).
You do what you can and would love to have you come. I hope to start making the meets in NYC myself in the future.

I don't know if I'll be in NJ for the holidays yet. I won't know until a week or two prior. Please keep me on your reminder list. I have my own nametag, so don't sweat that.
To: alisasny
Me too! Me too! Me too!
Freeper name tags? Yes!
I think choosing a place with the name 'Moran' was a wonderful idea. Good thinking.
It will be delightful to meet MadIvan. I always like his posts, and after meeting him I will be able to put an accent on them. Will it be Geordie, Cockney, Jock, Queen's English, North or South??
