Massachusetts Primary Results Thread
Posted on 09/17/2002 5:10:08 PM PDT by SamAdams76
Just thought I'd start a thread to monitor the results of the Massachusetts primary. In particular, for the statewide races for Governor and Lt. Governor.
Mitt Romney is a shoo-in for the Republicans but the big question is whether the voters will choose Mitt's appointed running mate Kerry Murphy Healey or renegade Jim Rappaport. If Rappaport can pull it out, it will be a bittersweet ticket as Romney and Rappaport have been slugging it out for weeks now. Still, I voted for Rappaport because he has firmly pledged to not support any tax increase whatsoever, unlike Kerry Murphy Healey.
For the Socialists, we have Robert Reich waging a low-budget campaign against front runner Shannon O'Brien along with other candidates including Warren Tolman, Thomas Birmingham and Steve Grossman.
Should be an interesting night here in Massachusetts. I predict that Romney will win the governorship no matter who his Lt. Governor candidate ends up being.

I like this layout better - think I'll stick with this format for this thread. Okay, I'll update this thread when some numbers actually come rolling in.

What's going on in the Senate race? There's no Republican candidate opposing Kerry, right? Has the Libertarian candidate made himself known?

The Republicans aren't fielding a candidate for the Senate this year against Kerry. Pretty pathetic. But Jack E. Robinson is staging a write-in campaign to get on the November ballot. If he can get 10,000 votes, he'll be on the ballot. I wrote him in, for what it's worth.

O'Brian opened up a big lead in the polls. It will be interesting to see if they have any validity. Polls in primary elections are always a bit iffy. If there the slightest reason anyone here should care about the outcome of this race by the way?

What a collection of losers,
O'Brien? Shes the front runner?....HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Birmingham? You're just plain scary. Maybe lose 50 pounds and stop talking about how good an athlete you were. You sucked then and you suck now.
Reich?...to easy. 90% of all the kids in the commonwealth are taller then you.
Tolman?.....Hairclub for men.
Grossman?.....the name says it all.
The Massachusetts socialist party is the biggest collection of loser, misfit, a** kissers on the planet!
None of them could work 25 hours a week, nevermind 40.

Romney is "pro-choice." I assume Healey is as well since, at least according to Rappaport's ads, she
opposes the marriage amendment that prohibits homosexual "marriages." I blanked Romney and cast a vote for Rappaport. Hopefully the "silent majority" will speak.
I won't vote for Romney/Healey if that's the ticket.

Is there the slightest reason anyone here should care about the outcome of this race by the way?I can think of one reason, anyway: the simple pleasure of seeing another Clinton insider get defeated, at the primary level, no less. First Reno, then Reich. Like cutting off the tentacles of an octopus, one at a time. In general election campaigns, Bowles trails in NC for a Senate seat, and Richardson leads in NM for the Governor's seat, but I'm not ready to give up on that one. Are there others? I've tried so hard to forget the Clinton cabinet, maybe a race by one of them has slipped my mind. God, what I wouldn't give to see Maddy Albright on the campaign trail!
Side issue: isn't that an uncommonly ugly (in the physical sense) group of people?
Good job on the Florida primary a week ago, Torie, by the way. You called the late and almost successful Reno rally; I had been convinced, with half the vote in, that it would be a rout.

Thanks for the update.
Rappaport is taking a beating.
I guess Mitt and his eye candy are in.
Oh well.
It would have made for fun times if Rappaport had won.
