I think Mr. Novak gives too much credit to those who have recently targetted and are continuing to target Pius XII and the Vatican. I smell an eventual lawsuit and the billions of dollars the lawyers and supposed "victims" would gain from a successful lawsuit... but first, the foundation must be laid for such a lawsuit and thus the lies and propaganda.

Eugenio Pacelli was the real author of Mit Brennender Sorge.

I smell an attempt by the far left to set Catholics and Jews at each other's throats.

The newest issue available online (June/July 2002) has another article on the subject.

Romulus, Sr. Margherita is on EWTN's The World Over right now. If you don't have cable TV, you can watch it on the Web at EWTN live video & audio.

A priest in the audience asked Sr. Margherita for an update on the progress of Pius XII's cause for beatification/canonization (he was declared venerable shortly after his death). She said she recently spoke to Fr. Peter Gumpel and he said that all of the documentation that needs to be presented to John Paul II will be ready by the end of the year.

Another interesting comment from Sr. Margherita: St. Padre Pio wrote in his diary that when Pius XII died that he had a vision of the soul of PP XII going to heaven. Sr. then said, "You think he should be canonized? He is already in heaven."

Correction - It wasn't The World Over, it was EWTN Live.

This is the express intention of John Cornwell, author of Hitler’s Pope:...

<> I was extremely angered when "Crisis" magazine got Cornwell to sit for an interview and they didn't confront him about his tendentious and despicable book.

They had no trouble writing a long and critical article about Michael Rose though. Weird. <>

I think it was her new book which she said would be out in November. It hadn't been shown earlier and she was trying to get a plug in. :-)

Bump.

Ping for a later read. I saw Sister Margharita on EWTN last night. She is wonderful and I intend on reading the two books she mentioned. When I have a bit more time I'll try to post links to the two books she mentioned.

I did a quick search and found some information on her latest book. It is going to be published by Inside the Vatican.

Pope Pius XII supported plot against Hitler (the few typos notwithstanding, a synopsis of Shepherd of Souls)

He's a seriously under-rated pope, who has not yet received his due from historians. I think his reputation will grow considerably in the years to come.
