I agree, and mentioned the base closings on another thread. It's our bases and military personnel that allow them the freedom to speak with such rude abandon. Let's pull out and see how brave they are when they have to defend themselves with only France to lean on.

Good to know you are safe.

Thanks so much! We live in a fairly hilly part of Ohio, and there is a ridge to the west of town that somehow diverts tornadoes from coming right at us.

They go north and south, and occasionally skip right over town, but don't hit us directly. One tornado about 10 years ago hit to the west, then jumped over town to the east, and took off part of the roof of my kids' elementary school about a half hour after they had been standing in front of the school loading the busses! It was a bright sunny day, too!

Tornadoes are frightful things, because of their unpredictability! Just think.....only 9 houses away from Miss Marple's house! Thank You, Lord for Your protection of her, and her family!!

I went into the store and found several gifts that I needed. Just brightened my day a bit! :-)

Neat story, Nea! Seems like our photogenic First Couple are now being used for merchandising! (Good thinking!)

Ask rintense about her attractive get well card from a certain ohio native! :o)

AH, yes! But what if my electricity had gone out! I would be here alone in the dark with NO Dose! AARGHH!!!

btw, I heard that the President was quite upset about the idiotic German comments......and I don't blame him! This calls for some Laura TLC, and a listening ear. Bet it's a subject for pillow talk right this very minute!

There's also BMW and Mercedes, and I have a couple of clients who frequently get bids from German companies. When I tell them about the lack of outrage from the German people I imagine there are a few German firms who will be dropped from the bid lists.

One article quoted the President as being "furious"...he kind of looks that way in the picture with Condi. I don't blame him one bit! I'm glad he's at Camp David for a couple of days. Not that he ever really gets to rest.

Tornadoes are frightful things, because of their unpredictability!

I am terrified of them. In 1979 most of my husband's family lost their homes in a mammoth F-4 that practically destroyed the town of Wichita Falls, Texas. We drove in to check on them the day after the tornado hit and the damage was unbelievable. Half of the city had been reduced to shredded toothpicks. His brother and one sister lost their homes, but thankfully all of them were alive.

OWF, my electricity goes out on a regular basis in storm season. My phone lines rarely do.
Last year, I bought a used lap-top for just a few hundred. Now, when the electricity goes off, I browse the Net to candlelight or flashlight (I'm asking for one of those bendable flashlights for Xmas this year. Who needs electricity? :->) The battery is good for several hours.

An F4 is a powerful tornado! The town of Xenia, Ohio was completely wiped out by a tornado......probably 20? years ago.....I think that might have been an F4 or even 5.......and then they got hit by another one a few years ago.

I don't imagine I'd sleep much at night if I lived there! Or in 'tornado alley' down your way!

Rush said the same thing about Germany today. He said they would still be a divided country if it weren't for America. And he said we should stop sending them ANY money for the next two years and see if they decide to show some graditude.

Xenia! No OWF, that was more than 20 years ago, I know that because my bestest friend from college was from Xenia, and she always used to tell me that was where the tornado hit....and though I won't reveal my age......it was more than 20 yrs ago! ;)

Just logged on and learned of the tornado, MM. It must have been harrowing for you, your family (including pets), and neighbors. I'm so glad you're ok. So sorry for your neighbors.

President Bush and Laura NEED to go to Camp David this weekend if just to be with each other....although I'm sure that he will continue working even there while the self-important media blabbermouths continue their inane "solutions" without any idea of what they're talking about.

I'd say 'furious' was an appropriate reaction! Can you imagine if John Ashcroft had said something so preposterous about the leader of a country that was supposed to be an ally?!

This woman should have been fired today. I'm with pulling our troops and our money out of there.

MissMarple, glad you and your family and home are safe. Prayers of thanks going up for you and yours.

The whole German minister thing is absolutely despicable. To compare our President to that murderous madman Hitler is just reprehensible. I emailed the German embassy and told them as much. I also told them that MY President was a man of high moral integrity and courage. And that the apology from Schroeder was NOT an apology at all. I demanded that Schroeder issue a true and heartfelt apology to President Bush and our country NOW.

It felt good to let them have it. I'm not normally one to fire off emails or letters but this was just too much.

Ohio, don't be lonely - all your friend came over tonight - and you didn't even have to clean up for us !!! LOL

Once you see the devastation in person ... well, it's a lot different from seeing it on tv. It really hits you in the gut.

Glad our great Miss Marple is okay, but she'll be a little shaky for a while, I imagine.

She is probably busy helping neighbors right now.

I wasn't scared of tornados until I saw one that landed in Oak Cliff a few blocks from where my parents lived.

I remember the Xenia tornado and it was comparable to the one in Wichita Falls. Do you remember the Jarrell, Texas tornado about five years ago? It was an F5 that would have killed hundreds had it hit in a metropolitan area. I believe almost 30 people lost their lives that day. When I hear the tornado sirens I take cover, pray and shake!

You know, I was thinking it probably was, but it's a frightening thought that something that happened more than 20 years ago is such a vivid memory.

Mr ohio would remember. He's from Dayton.

(Tell me it wasn't 30 years ago!!)

I'm not buying the excuse that the German guy is doing this as a political ploy and he will get all cosy after the election.

There is no excuse for that kind of rhetoric from Germany, and they deserve a little less friendship from us in the future.

Well, I agree with Rush. Because we do subsidize them so much, maybe that would get their attention. And I agree with whoever said the U.N. should move over there. Since the Towers were destroyed New York could probably use the office space.

My son and his wife live at Lake Texoma. He had to build her a storm cellar. They've never been in it, but at least it's there.

It seems like their marina gets hit by a little tornado every two weeks that takes the furniture off their dock.

My son has his bolted down now.

Was this recently? I've only been in one and it was a little one. I was stuck in rush hour traffic over 20 years ago heading north on Stemmons Freeway. The sky was that eerie green color and we all stopped our cars and watched it cross over Stemmons from the west. It touched down about two blocks east of Stemmons around Walnut Hill Lane. Of course this was accompanied by golf ball sized hail -- got my attention, lol!

Yes, I remember the Jarrell tornado. It wiped out the entire town, didn't it? Awful!

You know what, McLynnan.....until he was 16 or 17 years old, Eric wanted to be a tornado chaser! (I told you he was an adventurer!) We all kind of like bad storms here, but not when they hurt anybody.

Hey, this is amazing. I saw the very tornado you speak of. I worked in an office building on Stemmons. We saw the roof taken off that hotel there on 183.

As soon as we saw that, we headed for the basement in the building. I know the green color you speak of very well.
