I would really like to hear your answer to the Arlen Specter question I posed in post #335.

I really struggled with the question of voting for him in 1998, given his support of abortion. But I did, figuring it might improve the chances that Clinton would be kicked out.

After he was re-elected, and voted against the Clinton impeachment, despite giving constituents the impression he was going to vote for it, I swore I would never vote for him again.

I would like to hear whether or not you would vote for him again under these circumstances, and why.

I believe that the percentage of national debt relative to GNP feel last year -- 2001.

Which means what? In terms of actual monetary amounts, we owe more every year. The figure is not getting smaller.

It simply means that the average American paid less money on interest payments for the national debt as a percentage of their total income in 2001 then they did the previous year 2000.

Because we cannot afford to give up the seat. We are already one seat down and there are several Republicans retiring. We must re-take the majority and we cannot risk giving up even one seat. If we regain the majority, and build on it in 2004 and beyond then the Specters and Snowes et al can be negated, and or if they don't come around dumped.

Well, my feeling was "That's what you get for voting for him in the first place."

The point being that at least some members of the GOP can be just as bad as the democrats, in the same terms you describe in the post.

I for one (and am not the only person posting thus in this thread) will not cast a vote for anybody who supports abortion ever again, if I can help it. That was the lesson I learned from supporting Arlen Specter.

One nation, under God.

God, as you've implied, doesn't sanction baby-killing.

Well, the problem is more the party majority than it is the man. The Democrat Party itself is the one promoting abortion. As long as they hold the majority we will never get the judges in place that can overturn Roe vs Wade. And, as long as the Demos hold enough votes to block legislation, they will forever hold us hostage.

Yes, you are right about that.

It is really unfortunate.

But I really think the GOP should make a bigger fuss than it is about the judicial crap they're pulling.

I can just imagine Paul Begala if the shoe was on the other foot.

Propaganda time, in the absence of a majority in congress.

Serious question: do you think Roe v. Wade really can be overturned? What majority of Americans are against abortion? Is it realistic to think that abortion can be completely overturned or that more reasonable restrictions (no abortions past first trimester unless life is seriously in danger kind of things, absolutely no partial birth abortion, no abortion in cases of mental retardation, etc) can be placed on abortions?

Well, I believe it can be done. I believe that I've read somewhere that something like 60% of the populace is opposed to abortion. A more conservative (or less liberal) Supreme Court can overturn Roe vs Wade and assuming we can get more conservatives in the state governments, each state can make abortion illegal. It can happen. Vote the RATs out! (at every level).

You know, Jim, abortion is really the big silent dividing line in this country. Some people have likened it to slavery in the 19th century.

It is sad that so many Americans cannot remember a time when there was no "right to an abortion."

But I believe (and maybe others do as well) that if the GOP hangs tough with its anti-abortion stance, and talks about it more, it will keep more people (and possibly draw more) than it will lose. The GOP has been sucked in by the Clinton liars in this respect as well. That's why the GOP needs more female anti-abortion spokeswomen. There are plenty of intelligent, women who don't believe in "abortion rights," and the GOP should use them.

The key to conservative political survival in this nation is to overcome the edge the leftist media has over public opinion. We all know that to be fact.

We have people on this forum from all geographical regions of the country. I suggest as many as possible write their opinions and send them to their local newspapers for publication in their opinions section. Bring up the fact that the democrats have stonewalled the federal judicial nominations and what this has done to cripple our judicial system. I'm sure they can point to other well-documented facts that appeal to all voters on how the democrats have misinformed the people on the Republicans side of the issues.

I think of the countless hours we spent on this forum uncovering the democrats' corruption and treason in the late '90's and then experience the outrage that they got off scott free. It's tough for me to expect anything positive from politicians. That's how it has affected me. I'm willing to put off my final judgment long enough to see a Republican controlled House and Senate under a Republican President but, I am expecting a reversal of big government and a lot of other things that mirror my principles.

If you haven't already, you should read 'The Great Bridge' by David McCullough.
'Boss Tweed' and his crooked, thieving, Democrat cronies were alive and well way back then too.
I loved how Roebling also called the media 'a bunch of lying trouble makers.'
It is a great read and what an amazing feat for the time.

But at least Reno & Reich (how appropiate) got voted out for now.
Here's to giving Grey Doofus the boot too!!!

GHWBush used that term in quite a different way. This has been explained and proven, countless times on FR. Go search the archives.

Hitler was NOT " far right ". That has become an accepted use, by democRATS. Thanks for showing how dumbed down and brainwashed you are. Go look it up. NAZI is an anacronym , which has the word SOCIALIST as part of it. Socialists are lefties. The " Hitler / Stalin " remark, is made by ill educated, ill informed, PC, brainwashed people. Thanks , again, for proving what you are.

The Christian RIGHT is now a bunch of " LEFTIES ", who spew " hate " ? Boy, do YOU ever have a bunch of problems. Seek help !

You are not only a " time water ", you're a bandwidth waster and should remain silent. That way, people would only GUESS, that you are what you are; now we all know. :-)

And what is this evil that triumphs when good men do nothing?

Good men doing nothing is often due to good men not knowing what side to take. That helps explain third parties. Then there are the idealists who have an unreachable standard. If they think it's a sin to vote GOP, who can blame them for not wanting to sin?

I try to remind myself daily that a soft tongue can break a hard bone. Then I slip and go on the rampage again. LOL.

If only the third party people would understand the importance of this fight. Blocking these judicial appointments is evil. No doubt. Freegards....

I see that many races are so close that as little as a one percent siphon of conservative votes to a third party could be the difference between success and failure. I see allowing a Democrat to remain in power when it could have been prevented as a triumph of evil.

I live in PA where Al Gore beat Bush, and everyone here knew it could happen. Yet a friend of mine voted for Buchanan because he had to "follow his heart."

Right now Fisher (R) and Rendell (D) are running against each other for governor in PA, and I'm hearing Republicans say they're voting for the Libertarian candidate.

IMO it's immature and naively idealistic that some Republicans demand perfection from their candidates so they vote for a third party, and we end up with Democrat thugs like Clinton.

The problem is that these third party people don't care if we have a Democrat president, governor, senator, etc. It's their way of punishing us because the Republicans aren't good enough for them.

Here is a closeup of a voter registeration card sweetliberty mentions in her post # 182.
Please forgive the amaturish deletion of the exact address, I didn't think it wise to leave it.
