How do you define an "enemy of the constitution" and an "enemy of liberty". Sounds fairly subjective to me or have you taken a course?
TO THE EDITOR:
Tom Boettcher seems like an intelligent man. He's been asking, "Does it matter?" For a number of us, looking at the faces of the Democrat Party and seeing David Walters, Gene Stipe, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Jesse Jackson, and Ted Kennedy, that question was answered long ago. But now Boettcher has his answer. It's a resounding "No!"
There is no line the Democrats won't cross, no shame and no regrets. I'd now like to ask this of Boettcher and any other Democrats who had been unclear on this point: What will you do with the answer?
John Scott, Harrah
As if the Republicans are any better, just the lesser of two eveils.
Is FR "oficially" a republican web site now?
Like everything else, sometimes it is black and white, and sometimes there are shades of grey. Why a course? What the Hell would a single course teach you about such a subject? Do you not sometimes know when you see an enemy? Do you not know, for an example, that the leadership of China is opposed to liberty, or that the legal counsel for Bill Clinton is opposed to the US Constitution? Some things can be known in life - it would be terrible to think you are not allowed to make a judgment call on anything. Actually, nobody in the world and nobody in history has ever really been a relativist - it's impossible.
So, let me just phrase my comment slightly differently, to aid understanding: If I know a person is an enemy of the Constitution, by their words or actions, they are an enemy of mine, because the US Constitution is the just Law of the Land of the nation I love and of which I am a citizen. Bill Clinton, and all of his supporters who are not physically, mentally retarded, are therefore my enemies. Bill Clinton happens to be my enemy for more personal reasons, too, but that's an only slightly related matter.
So in other words you have a self defined concept of what constitutes an "enemy of the constitution or liberty" and when others fail to meet that self-defined concept they are your enemy? BTW the "course" remark was facetious. I was just pointing out that you were calling the "rhetoric" overheated when it came to the word "evil" but yet you are willing to make your "enemies" list based on the same generalizations that you accuse others of.
NO it's not!
An aircraft carrier headed for the reef at 30 knots MUST, of necessity, pass through 15 knots in order to STOP!
Why? EVERYTHING Jim says here is the TRUTH (he is using the word enemy rhetorically) and YOU know it.
Oh I know it! ;>)
The republican party is also a corrupt party. They are , via the GWB administration, currently conducting the worst assault on the constitution and Bill of Rights in the history of this country. They have covered up for the Clintons which makes them just as guilty. The kangeroo court held by the republican senate, during the Clinton impeachment, was the most blatant example of corruption I have ever seen. There is no way that you will ever convince me that the republicans are the answer to anything. There are a few elected republicans that I will gladly support, but their number is very few.
I don't know why you think that the republican party is our salvation, but the republican party and the GWB administration are no heroes. They have started a war against terror, but have refused to even bother to protect the american people by closing the borders. In the time that GWB has been talking about invading Iraq, Saddam could have easily smuggled 10's of thousands of terriorists or soldiers into this country and we have done nothing to stop it. GWB has deliberately and knowingly put american citizens at risk for the sole purpose of maybe, maybe, getting some of the hispanic vote. I call that corruption.
The idea that a (R) behind an elected representative or senator will save this country is pure BS and you know that as well as I. The only way that we, as a people, will ever regain control of our government is when we realize that party politics are not the answer. We must select our representatives regardless of label but because of who they are and what they believe and what they stand for. Nothing else will work and nothing else will save us or deter us from the path on which we are currently traveling. The idea of holding ones nose when voting is no longer viable, we must work to elect those people who are honest and principled and if the candidates we select are not of the republican party, too bad. The problems we face today will not be solved by party politics. They will only be solved by a thinking electorate that will take the time to get involved. What you're suggesting is that we accept the lesser of the two evils, democrat or republican. I submit that we will get to the same place with either party and that it is time that we start anew. If you think that by simply electing republicans, we will solve our problems, you are more naive than I.
Let the flames begin.
BTTT for justice and truth. May the moral-liberalism of the DNC, Greens, and LP be exposed and defeated. We cannot thwart corruption in government while turning a blind eye to or winking at corruption in people.
