Anarchist 'Scavenger Hunt' Raises D.C. Police Ire

Sat Sep 21, 3:37 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An online "anarchist scavenger hunt" proposed for next week's annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank here has raised the ire of police, who fear demonstrators could damage property and wreak havoc.

Break a McDonald's window, get 300 points. Puncture a Washington D.C. police car tire to win 75 points. Score 400 points for a pie in the face of a corporate executive or World Bank delegate.

D.C. Assistant Police Chief Terrance Gainer told a congressional hearing on Friday that law authorities were in talks to decide whether planned protests were, "so deleterious to security efforts that we ought to take proactive action."

Several thousand people are expected to demonstrate outside the IMF and World Bank headquarters next weekend.

The Anti-Capitalist Convergence, a D.C.-based anarchist group, is also planning a day-long traffic blockade, banner-drops and protests against major corporations in the downtown core.

Chuck, the 37 year-old webmaster of the anarchist site www.infoshop.org who declined to give his last name, told Reuters his scavenger hunt was meant as a joke.

"People were asking for things to do when they come to D.C. We made the list to get people thinking, so they don't do the boring, standard stuff," he said. "I doubt people will actually keep track of what they do for points."

The fine print says: 'Conditions apply. Up to 10 days in jail may be required for every 100 points earned. This offer expires after media attention oves on.'

Isn't against the law to conspire to commit illegal acts?

A pie in the face is assult, for example. It would seem that there are a lot of police options here.

I notice he doesn't say he doubts that people will follow his suggestions.

The Anarchists made elaborate plans which included parking their buses at Springfield/Franconia station and taking the subway into town.

Metro closed down the parking lot where those buses would have gone in order to start construction on an additional parking garage.

This is one of the most heavily armed places on Earth. We have people from everywhere, mostly refugees from places where folks like the Anarchists run stuff. Due to the prior presence of an AlQeada support team, as well as some other secret stuff, military stuff, and other things, we have many more than our fair share of federales wondering around at all times, day or night!

The Anarchists should plan on parking their buses some other place, and just staying out of Springfield. They are not welcome. There are no guarantees that they cannot get hurt out here.

Um...there are parts of D.C. where the antics that got so much latitude from the powers that be in Seattle, will get these idiots seriously killed.

Chuck, the 37 year-old webmaster of the anarchist site www.infoshop.org

Chuck is not an anarchist he is part of the leftover-left. The thing to keep in mind is that if you are made to feel afraid then you've been assaulted and if you are touched then you have been battered.

Infoshop is indeed an anarchist website. And unless Chuck is running a website dedicated to something he is not, then he is the epitome of an anarchist.

Infoshop
Anarchist Faq hosted at Infoshop.org

I think it is outstanding that the DC Chapter protests against these guys whenever they rear their ugly heads.

Chuck is a socialist in drag. From his website "anarchism is primarily a movement against hierarchy.

Don't you think his website is very ordered with a specific hierarchy?

Ok. Chalk me up as a weenie girl. But I'm just starting to get a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach about these leftist/anarchists.... The longer this war goes on, the more violent and nuts they'll become.

It just scares me to think a handful of brave FReepers will be standing in their path.

...Taking my fears, tucking them into my pocket now!

Anarchism is a socialist movement. Has been since the 1800s.

The fact that he is a socialist in drag is not surprising since anarchism is squarely in the leftist camp.

Anarchism is not disorganized. The Black Block is not disorganized. It is anti-government, not anti-organization. You may want to read their FAQ a bit.

Hmmm. Perhaps the police can have a scavenger hunt of their own.

Pepper spray in an anarchist's face - 50 points.
A German shepherd's teeth attached to the seat of some scruffy wacko's jeans - 100 points.
Each raving nutter bowled over by water cannon - 150 points.

...and so on.

The DC Chapter and anyone who wants to join us will be lining the street as these anarchists/anti-war/anti-American/anti-globalists march by and they will see American Flags, patriotic colors, humorous and witty signs and warpaint (no kilts, please). Thanks for your concern.

OK, tis just a thought.

If these "anarchist" fools are against authority and any police action, then it would be OK in their minds to call for a posse to "scavenge" their asses off to a refuse dump, beat the hell out of them and, uh, uh, let the "professionals" from known organizations along the West Coast Docks deal with them at that point.

There would be no win, place, and the best part, no show, and if done properly, no paperwork...

"I hope the D.C. FReepers will lay low while those animals are on the prowl!"

These guys do their things Friday. Then Saturday the leftists congregate and we may do a counterprotest.

I personally won't be doing anything but hiding on Friday when these anarchists are on the prowl. Don't mind saying so publicly, nor the reason: fear!

I really really hope and trust that the police are going to work with the courts to put some serious limits on this stuff. Announcing this behavior in advance is a problem for these people: it gives police the authority to go and complain in advance that the permits should be revoked or curtailed. I'd be really surprised if that didn't happen at this point.

Sorry, they won't get a free pass from the DC Chapter.

The more of us who show up, the safer we'll all be... and the less opportunity these idiots will have to do their dirty deeds.

Rats and roaches prefer to scurry around in the dark.

DC Chapter will provide the light.

Another of the useful idiots. Chuck's little so-called "joke" webpage may backfire on him, and he may well find himself in jail and the new "girlfriend" of one of the jailhouse residents.

Count me in! I work in DC and just received an update of the anarchists projected plans that the DC Police are conveying to area property managers. Of course, these plans are not final and updates will be made throughout the week.

I may get a chance to report up close and personal about some of the antics of these protesters. On Friday, expected protest areas include: 21st & K, 21st & Penn, Connecticut & K, Connecticut & L (my building is located here), Rhode Island & Massachussetts, 18th and Penn, the Whitehurst Freeway, CanalRoad, Massachusetts Avenue at Sheridan Circle, and Wisconsin and M.

I understand that WTOP radio, 107.7 FM, 1500 AM is the official station for street closing updates.

I will be at work on Friday and somewhere on the streets with flag and signs on Saturday.
