A 12-year-old student at an Albemarle County, Va., school was ordered to take off a National Rifle Association (NRA) T-shirt, and now the gun-rights group is suing the school district, the Virginia Daily Progress reported Sept. 18.
Alan Newsom, a student at Jack Jouett Middle School, was told by an assistant principal to turn his "NRA Sports Shooting Camp" shirt inside out because it depicted people shooting guns. His parents contend that the shirt contained no violent themes, and noted that the student handbook -- which bans clothing depicting drugs, alcohol, sex, profanity, and religious and ethnic insults -- says nothing about guns.
After Newsom's father e-mailed the NRA, and the NRA contacted the school, the handbook was amended to include a ban on clothing showing weapons or violence. The NRA, in turn, filed suit against the district, claiming officials violated Newsom's free-speech rights and seeking $150,000 in compensation and damages.
"The T-shirt clearly depicts individuals involved in shooting sports," said NRA Executive Director Wayne LaPierre. "The images are in no way inappropriate or violent ... This is clearly a case of political correctness running unchecked."

Cool.
I was getting tired of all of the anti-NRA sentiments.

My children got very nice NRA-Youth Member Tee-shirts with only the logo, relatively small, on the shirt. No problems. They haven't tried the shooting camp tee yet, but it might be interesting....
Imagine the havoc represented by a tee-shirt depicting a target rifle shooter!!! Blood running in the halls and streets!!!
Lucky these idiots were not in charge of education in 1774.

We have a running joke when my husband wears his very subtle NRA logo'd polo to work. If anyone objects (it doesn't look like a traditional NRA logo), he just informs them that they are treading on his Constitutional right to freedom of religion--we are also members of the "other" NRA, National Reformed (churches)Association. We are RPCNA.

so have him wear the other "other" NRA shirt once in a while. It's almost a religion with some FReepers.
