I really wonder if this is a face-saving press release and maybe the real story is "they quit the UN". It's worth checking out given the history of US relations in that country.

One time I played golf with a guy who worked for the UN. He was very good. I asked him how often he played. Three to five times a week he said. Its obvious the whole thing is a scam, and very little real work gets done, unless flapping your jaws is work.

Kofi put out a 34 page report today that is entitled: Strengthening of the United Nations: an agenda for
further change (
http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=4809&Cr=annan&Cr1=reform)
I didn't go thru it all, but I got the feeling I was reading about the islamification of the UN.
I found this item interesting:
"In the eyes of much of the world, the size and composition of the Security Council appear insufficiently representative. The perceived shortcomings in the Councils credibility contribute to
a slow but steady erosion of its authority, which in turn has grave implications for international peace and security. Thus, no reform of the United Nations would be complete without reform of the Security Council."
