"After Sept. 11, we had enormous sympathy, goodwill and support around the world," Gore said. "We've squandered that, and in one year we've replaced that with fear, anxiety and uncertainty, not at what the terrorists are going to do but at what we are going to do."

True liberal-speak.

If our $trillions in economic, military, food and medical aid to the world since WW2 has not garnered goodwill around the world, what will?

We surely don't need sympathy........only Tipper needs massive doses of that.

We need to instill FEAR in our enemies!!

Yes we have and its a good thing. Every world despot and terrorists now knows fear, anxiety and uncertainty, which I must assume Al Bore doesn't like.

Algore's ozone hole is snapping shut. He needs an issue for his presidential campaign, and Iraq is perfect. He tried the economy, stupid, but it's hard to say anything coherent about that.

"After Sept. 1...... we are going to do."

Does this not sound like he is likening the U.S. to the terrorists?

This sounds like treason to me.

The clip they played on the top of the hour ABC radio was Gore rambling on about Jesse James and a posse (from all I could discern). If that was the tone he used during the entire speech, I'd recommend a job selling "Sleeping quicker with Al Gore" tapes.

At least he'd get the insomniac vote...

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright wasted no time denouncing Senator Jesse Helms' address to the UN. Using an opportunity to meet with the UN Security Council, Secretary Albright sought to smooth ruffled feathers among her former colleagues.

"Let me be clear," she said. "Only the president and the executive branch can speak for the United States." - Secretary of State Madeline Albright, Jan. 2000

Sorry, that makes me chuckle, all the Dem. bores disagreeing with the President on the world stage. I read the hypocritical Albright's comment and see Maddie chasing Arafat shouting, "Close the gates!" ...and smile, remembering that they are all Poopheads (Kindergarten Cop - swearing against FR rules and all). (^:

Dear Mr. Gore, your "friends" and the press are telling you a big fib. You are not the President. You are a Poophead.

I believe the official expression used in Kindergarten Cop is "Poo-poo head." Editorial license used and these views do not necessarily represent the views of other members of this wise and well-behaved body of Freepers.

The dropping of veil will still any lingering doubts that America elected the right President for this crisis. Half of all American voters, and perhaps more than that, preferred Albert Gore to George Bush as President. By any rational calculation, Gore would have been President, were it not for a freak occurence on the Constitutional cusp. It was like a dime standing on edge.

America deserved Al Gore. That it got the man who would face the crisis squarely is more nearly due to Providence than a reward for its behavior in the 1990s.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget - lest we forget!

For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard--
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And guarding, calls not Thee to guard--
For frantic boast and foolish word,
Thy mercy on Thy people, Lord!

Also, can you imagine, if he had been elected President what he would have done last year after Sept. 11. We would not have gone into Afganistan to destroy the Taliban and the Islamic terrorists who attacked us. His main concern would have been world reaction, not doing what we have to do to defeat our mortal enemies. If the American people want to follow the Democrats, they will follow them to their doom.

A speech specially modified for the Wild West, I guess. LOL

Yep, the ozone hole has closed on him. Funny that he insists on digging another one straight down into the ground. Just keeps on diggin'. The dirt will soon cover him completely because he's not getting out of this one easily.

Why doesn't someone go to Gore and ask him The Question?

Namely: "In 1998, Saddam Hussein unilaterally announced that he was terminating the UN weapons inspectors without them being finished with the job. The Clinton Administration did NOTHING to stop Saddam from doing that, which directly led to the scary scenario we face today about what, and how much WMD Saddam has. Tell the American people, Mr. Gore, why you and Clinton allowed Saddam to bring us to the dangerous point he has today?"

I have yet to see this crucial aspect of the upcoming war with Iraq even DISCUSSED on television by anybody. Hannity & O'Reily included.

I wonder what algore thought when clintoon and his Euro-weenie buddies were blowing the same horn? (eww, that doesn't sound right, does it?)

From Rush Limbaugh:
On Friday, I brought those of you who now say we should just leave Saddam alone some of the most hawkish statements you've ever heard on Iraq. Did they come from the Bush White House in 2002? No, they came from our so-called allies Canada, France and Germany in February of 1998.

You can read the statements of these three nations using this link, and then read the statements from many of our other now-wimpy-then-wise allies in the full State Department transcript. We've already documented Bill Clinton and his administration saying the same things about Iraq and Saddam Hussein back in 1998 that were said in 1990-91 and that are being said by the current administration.

We've documented how Democrats like Tom Daschle were tripping over each other to beat the war drum back then. Now we see the truth: these liberals, as well as the ones in Europe and north in Canada, just went along with the rhetoric because they knew it was BS. On February 19,1998, Prime Minister Jean Chretien of Canada said, "If we do not act, if we do not stand up to Saddam, that will encourage him to commit other atrocities." Today, he's Saddam's best friend in North America – simply by refusing to help stop him.

That's funny. His former boss, X42 said that when one finds onself in a hole the first thing to do is to stop digging. But not Algore, he just looks for a bigger shovel.

Well, I'll be...I thought he'd snipe a bit at Bush, but mostly back him. Guess the polling data told Al to jink left. Of course, if it all works out for Bush, Gore may just have committed political suicide. Still, it's a pretty gutsy move.

I hope the administration is sharp enough and quick enough to throw some big news out today or tonight to drive AlBore right off the front pages. Even if it's something like mole crickets being discovered on the White House lawn.

Al Gore like most democrat(socialist) leaders prefers the victim status for this country.

The fact that we may fight back without the UNs approval is unsettling. - Tom

Geez...what happened Al?...(note: the sources just came up in a search, I have about 10 minutes to get this info posted before I head out for the day)

In a speech February 12 [2002], his first major political address since the US Supreme Court stopped a vote count in Florida and handed the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush, the Democratic presidential candidate, Al Gore, declared his full support to the Bush administration’s plans for expanded warfare in the Middle East. Gore called for a “final reckoning” with Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.

The former vice president recalled that he was among a small group of Democratic senators who backed the first President Bush in his decision to dispatch a huge army to the Middle East and go to war against Iraq over Kuwait. His only criticism of the Persian Gulf War was that it did not go far enough and was ended with Saddam Hussein still in power.

Gore added, “So this time, if we resort to force, we must absolutely get it right. It must be an action set up carefully and on the basis of the most realistic concepts. Failure cannot be an option, which means that we must be prepared to go the limit. And wishful thinking based on best-case scenarios or excessively literal transfers of recent experience to different conditions would be a recipe for disaster.”

On May 23 [2000], Vice President Al Gore addressed AIPAC's annual policy conference. His speech included a short section on Iraq:

We have made it clear that it is our policy to see Saddam Hussein gone. We have sought coalitions of opponents to challenge his power from within or without. I have met with the Iraqi resistance, and I have invited them to meet with me again next month – when I will encourage them to further unite in their efforts against Saddam.

"We have maintained sanctions in the face of rising criticism, while improving the oil-to-food program to help the Iraqi people directly. We have used force when necessary. And we will not let up in our efforts to free Iraq from Saddam’s rule. Should he think of challenging us, I would strongly advise against it.

As a Senator, I voted for the use of force. As Vice President, I supported the use of force. And if entrusted with the Presidency, my resolve will never waver."
