Flash back: Gore: Saddam must go -- from June 28, 2000

US Vice-President Al Gore has told Iraqi opposition politicians that the United States remains committed to the overthrow of President Saddam Hussein.

There can be no peace for the Middle East so long as Saddam is in a position to brutalise his people and threaten his neighbours

Meeting a delegation from the Iraqi National Congress (INC), he also reiterated the administration's view that the Iraqi leader should be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The Clinton administration is trying to beef up the INC after nearly 10 years of sanctions on Iraq have brought the world no closer to bringing down the Iraqi leader.

It has allocated $8m this year to the INC to help to re-build the organisation.

The INC will also be given some money to provide for the welfare of refugees and displaced Iraqis.

More than $250,000 has already been handed over.

Although the government has sometimes been reluctant in the past to spell out its direct support for a campaign to overthrow the Iraqi leader, a strategy that would topple him without the involvement of American troops has strong support in the US Congress.

In a presidential election year, President Clinton, and more to the point, presidential candidate Mr Gore, might also find it useful to demonstrate rather more determination to change things in Iraq than he has in the past.

The INC's nine-man delegation was led by its president, Ahmed Chalabi, and included representatives of the two main Kurdish parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

However, a key group, the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), was absent from the meeting.

$97m support

The SCIRI represents Iraq's Shi'ite community and is the only organisation currently militarily active against the Baghdad government.

Taking American money and other material backing will undermine our support among Iraqis and in the Arab states

Hamid al-Bayyati, SCIRI
SCIRI and a number of Islamic groups have been boycotting the INC since April 1999 in protest at its agreement to accept US financial and material support.

Hamid al-Bayyati, SCIRI's representative in London, said: "Taking American money and other material backing will undermine our support among Iraqis and in the Arab states."

Nevertheless, the administration has also allocated a further $97m worth of material support for the INC, to be provided by the Department of Defense for training in, amongst other things, computers, logistics, field medicine and communications and web site design and broadcasting.

Meanwhile, the INC has urged the administration to speed up the contract-approval process for sending medicines, spare parts and humanitarian supplies into Iraq and to find a means of diverting oil revenues away from the regime and into the hands of the Iraqi people.

The State Department says that it regards the INC as a "representative and authoritative voice for the people of Iraq".

It expects whatever new regime replaces the current one to emerge "very much from within Iraq".

And it is clear that the INC is being prepared to take on this responsibility and to act as a legitimising counterpart to whatever emerges, presumably from among disaffected military officers in Baghdad.

Good one - more proof that the socialist dems will say anything at any time if they think it will hurt a republican. Also that they have no conscience or sense of morality, much less any USEFUL convictions...

Since it's "dig-'em-up time", here's another reason to love Al and that "political transvetite" Little Tommy!

Gores Give $50,000 to Promote ‘Gay Parenting’
Daschle Also Supports HRC; Equates ‘Gay’ Group with 9-11 Heroes

By Peter LaBarbera

Former Democratic presidential candidate, senator and vice president Al Gore and his wife Tipper last month made a joint $50,000 gift to the educational branch of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s most powerful homosexual pressure group.

The Gores’ gift is earmarked for HRC’s Web-based “FamilyNet” project, which promotes homosexual adoption and “publishes information about issues of interest to gay families, including domestic partnership laws,” according to The Washington Blade, a homosexual newspaper.

Gore’s wife Tipper endorsed homosexual adoption and other “gay” political goals, according to news reports. Her husband has formed a political action committee (PAC) in anticipation of a possible rematch with President George W. Bush in 2004.

In related news, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota) gave a major speech at an HRC fundraiser in Los Angeles, pledging support for the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) and predicting that a pro-“gay” “hate crimes” bill would pass the Senate by Memorial Day.

As Culture & Family Report reported last week, HRC was among the official sponsors of a “transgender” conference titled “True Spirit 2002,” held February 15-17 in Washington, D.C. The event — attended by hundreds of girls and young women in their teens and 20s — featured “chest surgery” workshops for females who want their breasts removed in their quest to be like men; workshops on sadomasochism, multiple-partner sexual unions, and “Transgender Parenting”; and a session on “Sacred Sex” led by a Wiccan high priestess.

HRC, which recently announced its endorsement of hundreds of federal candidates, mostly Democrats, routinely lambastes Christian and pro-family groups opposed to its agenda as the “radical right.”

Daschle Goes to Hollywood

In what has become a rite of passage for Democratic politicians with presidential ambitions, Sen. Daschle gave a major speech at an HRC fundraiser in Hollywood on February 16. The setting and company could not have been further removed from the senator’s rural home state of South Dakota. Being honored alongside Daschle was Darren Star, creator of the raunchy HBO series, Sex and the City. (One episode of the cable show had a story line about oral sex in which the four lead female characters discussed the taste of male semen.)

The Los Angeles Times reports that Daschle gave a “booming speech on equality and the need for hate crimes legislation,” after which he was “swarmed” by supporters. In his speech, Daschle called HRC a “great organization” and declared, “It is so much easier to stand up to the voices of intolerance when you have more voices of understanding. So, thank you, HRC.”

He equated the homosexual lobby group with the heroes of September 11 and America’s fighting men abroad, stating, “In these difficult times, we also need to remember America’s other heroes: those who fight intolerance, those who honor diversity. …”

Daschle said the homosexual group’s agenda parallels the values of America’s Founding Fathers:

That is what this evening is all about. That is what the Human Rights Campaign is all about. And that is why I am so proud to be here with you this evening. The cause we celebrate tonight has defined this nation since its founding: to deepen the meaning of fundamental fairness, to live up to the ideals enshrined in our founding documents, and to build a good and just society on this bedrock principle: equal opportunity for all, special privileges for none.

In endorsing the ENDA legislation, he said:

Unfortunately, barriers [to “equality”] still do exist. Some are invisible — they exist in people’s hearts and minds. To break down those barriers, we need to teach tolerance. But some of the barriers are there for all to see — they’re written into our laws. To break down those barriers, we need to change people’s minds, yes … but we also need to change the law.

The Majority Leader’s ingratiating appearance at the homosexual lobby’s fundraiser did not sit well with pro-family leaders in his home state. In recent months, several conservative groups have taken out ads in South Dakota accusing Daschle of embracing a liberal agenda out of step with his constituents.

“It’s not surprising that Tom Daschle would come out in support of special rights for homosexuals. His affection for ‘gay’ activism has grown steadily over the years and is now a full-blown fatal attraction,” Robert Regier, executive director of the Rushmore Policy Council in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, told C&F Report. “The more he carries water for ‘gay’ activist groups, the more his support will dry up back home.” (Editor’s note: Regier has also written a commentary critical of Sen. Tim Johnson (D), Dashcle’s counterpart in South Dakota, who recently declined to repudiate a pro-homosexual “domestic partners” resolution.)

“Homosexuality is not a South Dakota virtue. It’s still considered a sin here,” Regier said. “Daschle would never give the same speech here at home because he knows better than to infect the good people of South Dakota with his hateful ‘tolerance’ for homosexual behavior.”

Regier said the leader of the U.S. Senate is “basically two different guys — the liberal operative in Washington and the conservative family man in South Dakota. A genuine political transvestite.”

A full text of the Daschle speech is reprinted on the HRC Web site.

Gores Are Committed

The Gore’s $50,000 donation to the Human Rights Campaign was made from personal funds not connected to the former Tennessee senator’s new PAC, Leadership ‘02, which most political observers predict will serve as the genesis for a likely electoral rematch against President Bush.

“It was a wonderful surprise,” beamed HRC Executive Director Elizabeth Birch to the Blade. “I immediately called Al and Tipper to thank them.”

Meanwhile, The Washington Times reports that Tipper Gore served as a keynote speaker at yet another HRC fundraiser — this one in North Carolina, put on by the homosexual group’s affiliate there — where she called for ending the ban on the “don’t ask, don’t tell” compromise designed to discourage open homosexuality in the military.

“I have a better solution,” Tipper Gore reportedly told the homosexual audience. “Let’s rip it up.”

The Times reports that Mrs. Gore told the “gay” crowd of 650 that she and her husband support “true family values … no matter what size, no matter what shape they come in,” apparently referring to homosexual-led households.

She also spoke in support of ENDA and parental rights for homosexual couples, and said this about “hate crimes”: “We cannot rest until Congress adopts federal hate-crimes legislation that includes sexual orientation.”

I saw this clown on CSPAN last nite, talking about how he would have installed a multinational force in Afghanistan, after we defeated the Taliban. And then I would have said,
"Okaaaay, now theres a new sherrif in towwwwwwn, now why dont everybody just caalllllm dowwwwwn." "And after everyyyybodyy got their blood pressure down, then we would help them rebuild their nation" It made me absolutely sick. If he's the best the Rats have to offer, then we should be easily be able to enjoy 4 more years of Bush.

"I also support the President's stated goals in the next phases of the war against terrorism as he laid them out in the State of the Union. ... Even if we give first priority to the destruction of terrorist networks, and even if we succeed, there are still governments that could bring us great harm. And there is a clear case that one of these governments in particular represents a virulent threat in a class by itself: Iraq. As far as I am concerned, a final reckoning with that government should be on the table."

-Al Gore, in Feb. 12, 2002 speech to Council on Foreign Relations.
