Contact your county Board of Elections. They are in the phone book. I know here in NEOhio they are always begging for qualified individuals to serve as judges and presiding judges.

I once signed up to be a poll worker. Just for the heck of it, see how things worked. Two days before election day, I get a call asking "If I wanna be a precinct captain?". I didn't have a clue what a captain did. I got a crash course in election day do and don't. The rules were printed on a card. I got a business card with two phone numbers in case there was any trouble. Just call, "We will get to you as soon as we can". Don't talk to the media. Voting records are public records, but only after some administrative time delay has been met.
I spent my whole 13 hours explaining issues to voters. I wasn't allowed to be partisan because we didn't have a Democrat at our poll. One lady did show up after I called the board. I just showed voters a copy of the full page issue ads that the board had purchased. The ads had a summary at the bottom, which is all I could advise people to go by.
I also was able to help locate polling places that had changed for whatever reason. Since I was from the precinct, I could make good guesses at what the polling place was for an address.
The bums in charge of the "kids vote" didn't show up. I ended up calling the principal of the school we were set up in. He sent a couple of teachers over to help me get the mock election stuff set up. The school staff would peek in every once in a while to see the crowd. Then run and get a class to "vote". I think the kids vote was the best part of the whole day. One little girl was overwhelmed by the whole process. I told her "To just pick whatever she wanted". She voted for women candidates down the line "Because they were girls"...
