Unfortunately, I didn't see Zell's speech, but just reading the transcript you posted was riviting. If you or anyone else knows when C-SPAN may rebroadcast it, I'd appreciate it the info. Meanwhile, I hope and assume Rush Limbaugh will feature it prominently today. That speech needs the widest possible public exposure.
It sure sounds to me like the words of a man poised to cross the aisle. He surely won't do so in the midst of a campaign; his friendship with Max Cleland, their ideological disagreements notwithstanding, is genuine. Maybe he'll retain his "D" label until 2004, and then simply announce his decision to seek the Republican Senate nomination for his re-election race. It would be fun to see who the Georgia Dems would nominate to oppose him -- none of the big-name Dems would answer the bell, I'm betting. Hmmmm... in 2004, Zell Miller (R) vs. Cynthia McKinney (D). Well, one can dream...

This speech sounds more like something Mr. Smith might have delivered, just before the end of the movie.
Give 'em Hell, Zell!
(Betcha Little Tommy didn't like this one bit...)

Zell, it's time to follow Lou Reeds Advice.
Hey baby, Take a Walk on the Wild Side.
Trent Lott, could pull a Don Pardo, Stand in the well, and yell, Zell Miller, Come On Down!

I looked on the CSPAN page and couldn't find it, even archived, but I'm not the best searcher on the internet by any means.
I agree with you, though, it should be read and played over and over for all to see.

I'm not touchy about it at all; I have no doubt about my own patriotism, nor about most of the feelings on the people on this forum.
But I'm sure you know that there are those who like to segregate themselves from the rest of us by using code words like "true patriot" and "true conservative" or "real conservative" or "principled." Meaning, of course, that they're better than the rest of us.

I got the impression that Miller is sponsoring the bill (with who I cannot remember) that the White House wants. I could be wrong!

Check out the guy in #126 who thinks the President would lie in order to get a bit of management flexibility in the Office of Homeland Security.Hey, get a grip on yourself...You sound desperate...
I didn't call Bush a liar...You made that up...But since you brought it up, what would a Bush-bot call Bush's moves to turn 180 degrees on a lot of his campaign promises??? Maybe he's just wishy-washy like clinton was???
You go ahead and sit in the Gore/Daschle camp (in reference to post #126)...
What??? Those of us who don't always agree with wishy-washy George are automatically in line with the Democrats??? Shame on you....
But in response to one of your remarks; I have no idea how long it takes to fire a drunk government worker...But I do know that when their contract was signed, it was signed and agreed to by Federal Government Negotiators...
But hey, why are there so doggone many government employees in George's Federal police force anyway...What'd he say, 170,000??? That's a lot of people...What's a supposedly conservative President doing with so many Federal employees anyway???
Besides, there ought to be National Guardsman on all of our borders, RIGHT NOW...Illegals and terrorists are getting into our country RIGHT NOW...I don't need someone blowing smoke and telling me we need non-union people to defend our borders...We need a President who will defend the borders, NOW...And he could do it using one of those gazillion Executive Orders that they make up to supercede the Constitution...

It was a sight to see and hear. If you think the words are great, the delivery would have knocked you out. Fabulous.

Well, we know 'em when we see 'em; they're the ones that ride from thread to thread, telling us all how unknowledgeable we are, how unprincipled we are, and basically looking down their noses at us, which, of course, only THEY can do since they're the real, true American, ya know, and only they possess the exact, correct interpretation of the Constitution and only they can explain the real meaning of the Founding Fathers' words!
They can't even see what a good speech this is without harping about how he's a Democrat.

Take a look at the post to which you took objection. It wasn't even directed at you, let alone an insult. Seems as though you're going out of your way to find insults hurled at you - and if they don't exist you manufacture them.
To: NittanyLion
Is that a new requirement from you all, that the post be directed at the person who responds?
If so, then the post you directed toward me was "manufactured," too.

I still believe one of the reasons for the Pink Tie Rant yesterday was to keep the camera eye off the fact that the Democrats are trying to buy votes with civil service jobs.

Is that a new requirement from you all, that the post be directed at the person who responds? Well, I have to admit I don't know who "you all" is. I don't set any requirements around here or elsewhere, if that helps. And I'm not part of any group, that I know of.
I really think you made an issue out of a very innocent comment, and noted my opinion. Perhaps you have a past history with the original poster of which I'm unaware. Just didn't look that way to the casual observer.
