Perhaps you will also ask her why she has set up a separate site and NOT donated the dogtags to a legit organization so that the probabiblity of any fakes may be eliminated and any possible real ones returned.

All this discussion of whether the dog tags are authentic or fake detracts from what I think is one of the most important parts of Stacey's story. I'll let her words speak for themselves:

"After researching and speaking with many Veterans, I have come to find a common thread amongst the intricate, confusing and complicated fabric in time. I found threads of pure "truth" in the expressions of some who had real difficulty. Not only while in the midst of war, but well after; with coming home and daily life. So much judgment, isolation, feeling misunderstood, or not understood at all.

"It seems what many really needed the most was so simple. Things like recognition, respect, love, honor, acceptance, and a safe space to share, talk, yell or cry. A place to be exclusively honest with other vets regarding the surreal sights no human should ever have to see, let alone keep to themselves. I was surprised to learn many never heard an honest "Thank You." How difficult to have the absence of parades (like the other war-time heroes had in their honor), no national stamp for their efforts, no programs to assist in their transition and all that was lost, and even the 3-syllable greeting "Welcome Home" seems to have been said much too infrequently.

"With all this, and wicked memories tatooed to their minds, recurrently chasing sanity, it is not surprising to me that there may have been residual effects and difficulty for some of our Heroes of Vietnam still with us today. It is in part, for this reason that I found myself wanting to do "something" for the Veterans of Vietnam. To, somehow, help this forgotten generation of a very volatile time."

To ALL Vietnam Veterans -- THANK YOU for serving our country.

She apparently is internet savvy. Why didn't she contact a legit organization and donate her tags?

You are internet savvy too. Why don't you get her email address from her site and ask her all your questions?

I am not the one promoting her site. You are and thus YOU are responsible for knowing the issues behind your promotion.

I'm not going to reply to any more of your posts. If you have questions, you know where to get answers.

I hope you have a nice day.

Thank you for your service in the military during Vietnam and welcome home.

It really doesn't matter. I look at it like giving to an evangelist: even if he spends the money on hookers, your gift is still counted by God. The other person will have to answer for it.

Thanks,
USAF vet, 86-96

Regardless of whether or not the tags are legit, it should still be applauded that she is at least MAKING AN EFFORT, to honor the troops that died over there. She spent her own money.. not the money of the tax payers of this country to purchase those tags.

I for one cannot understand your continued attacks at those of us who are looking for anything positive, no matter how small, in order to bring something home for the families of the soldiers that died there.

I am not angry at you CinFLA, just confused why, as a Vet who served over there, you would not at least acknowledge even the smallest success in her efforts are huge.

I also would like to thank you for serving. I cannot fathom how it felt to come home from Vietnam and be treated negatively for serving our country. I was just a young kid when that all happened.

I would politely ask that if you cannot support this thread in a positive way, that you would please refrain from posting at all.

Thank you again. Those of us in here, and at the USO CANTEEN - FREEPER STYLE do truly thank you for your service.

Sincerely, JG

I'm sure there's a chance some are fakes, but if she is verifying them before contacting families, I don't see any problem.

I want the readers to also be aware that this is a well-known scam in Vietnam. That there are also legit organizations involved in this effort that PROPERLY document their tags. She should turn over all information and tags to one of those organizations.

chance that some are fakes? More likely all are fakes. Even she admits that she "hopes" maybe one will be real! Scams are fed by hopes.
