U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin said this afternoon that his campaign manager and a low-level staffer had resigned over a "Dennis the Menace caper" in which a meeting of his opponent's campaign was secretly taped, then leaked to a reporter.

"It appears these shenanigans were the work of one young staffer who didn't have enough supervision," the Democrat said.

As long as Harkin keeps the agricultural pork gray train running, the people of IA will continue to send his sorry ass back to Washington. It's a sad truth.

Don't give up because it took Arkansas way too long to get rid of the nasty Democrat criminals and we're STILL trying to keep them out of public office.

I use to think there wasn't much difference in the two parties but that's not true. One party is held accountable for their lies and criminal behavior and the other is not.

McDermott, the other democrat who passed illegal tapes to the media, is in Baghdad right now, with David Bonior.

They have a radio debate scheduled for Sunday...that's why Harkin acted so quickly to end this, and he's hoping, to be able to say he had taken care of it. He wants to keep the stink away from himself.

Blame it on someone else...yeah, that's the ticket!

[The tape allegedly was made by Brian Conley, 53, of Des Moines. Conley was invited to the small Ganske event, said David Wiggins, a West Des Moines lawyer Harkin hired to investigate cover-up the matter.]

And they say IA has about the best public schools in the nation!
Well consider that statement for a minute. Who says they are the best and by whose and what criteria? The governments?

Actually yes, the NEA says so, but my kids go to private school. The best and the brightest move away as soon as they can anyway.

"Iowa students are bringing home some of the best report cards in every subject in the latest NAEPs (National Assessments of Education Progress): Iowa ranks 6th in the nation in proportion of 4th graders with high scores in reading. *NCES, Digest of Educational Statistics 1999. Iowa ranks 8th in proportion of public school 4th graders scoring at the highest two levels in math. The proportion of Iowa 4th graders who scored at the highest two levels in math increased by 27% between 1996 and 2000. *NCES, Nation’s Report Card: Mathematics 2000. August, 2001. Iowa ranks 2nd in the nation for having the highest percentage of public school 4th graders scoring at the highest two levels in science. *NCES, Nation's Report Card: State Science 2000 Reports. November, 2001.
etc, etc

Nah... the math is right... It's common practice in the demo-rat party to pair 50-ish men with women in their early 20s - especially for 'undercover' stuff.... ;0)

HEY! It's just their PRIVATE lives! Oh. Er. Guess not. WELL nobody cares about that stuff anyway! Just ask Carville. LOL.

Excuse me Mr.Democrat, but remember what YOUR party did to Linda Tripp?

AND Newt Gingrich.

But, don't forget the rules. There IS no hypocrisy among the leftists. The problem is YOURS. You just don't understand their multiple and conflicting positions on the issues.

And, they get a pass, after all, because they know best. This is why they don't have to actually TELL you where they stand on the issues before an election. And even if you were to disagree with their agenda, well, they simply must implement their agenda anyway. And if they have to lie to you to implement their agenda because you would never willingly accept it on it's face, well that's allright, because in the end, they know what's best for you.

Iowa has fine schools. They also have a slew of farmers and agro types who fancy themselves the guardians of heartland values, while carefully avoiding the fact that their lips have been surgically attached to the federal teat for about 70 years.

There's more welfare in Iowa than there is in New York City.

The good news is that the Rat party took Iowa by approx 5,000 votes in 2000.

They are not all beyond hope back there. I do pray.

A 70-75% Republican turnout in all of the tight races will send six rat sinators packing and give control back to the Republicans. Jeffords can be assigned to clean restrooms with a toothbrush for the remainder of his career.

Actually yes, the NEA ...

ROTFL You've got a great sense of humor. It's not so funny to think of all the people who read such glowing reports of such and such a school district and move there to get their kids in though. It's kind of like taking the used car salesmans word that he's giving you great deal.

A good question to ask anyone who says there's no difference btw the two biggest parties: "Do you know who Janet Reno is?"

I disagree about demographics and school achievement. Iowa and Nebraska schools are still run like schools were when I was in school in the 50's and 60's. My children went to school in both states.

Education of parents correlates best with sucess in school in recent times.

time was, however, when NYC schools made assimilation of poor immigrants happen. That was before teacher unions, among other things.

Harkin said no one else on his staff knew about the request.

No one else knew....except for Harkin.

This story only has legs for a few days. The problem here is that Ganske is only slightly more conservative than Harkin. Ganske rates a D-minus from the NRA while Harkin rates an F.

Conley had contributed to Ganske's campaign and was invited to the strategy meeting with Bush aide Ken Mehlmann (sp?). Conley was a former Harkin aide back in the 1970s. Conley did not like what he was hearing in the meeting so he turned a tape he made over to the Harkin camp, who subsequently transcribed it and turned it over to the press.

I hope that clears up the "fuzzy math" thing.
