It sounds to me that you believe that an ethical code is personal. That you should base your actions based on what you know (or think) is right. If you read Hamilton, Madison and Jay (the federalist papers) they point out that everyone is doing just that. They are doing what they want. That is why politicians often go against what they believe to be right. There is a bottom line that has to be met in politics so that the masses of people can have freedom. Politicians don't do what they think is right. They do what is best conducive to an orderly and free nation.
think about that!

Well spoken, Pippin.

Prophet Mohamed was speaking to a group of men. A man in the croud says loudly, "prophet I commited adultry!" Mohamed said sh, and gestured to be silent. The man interrupts again, "prophet I commited adultry." This time the prophet says "Be silent!" A third time the man crys out ,"prophet I commited adultry" Mohamed ordered him to be stoned to death.
The crime here is not adultry. The bible says that the tongue is powerful enough to ruin nations. Perhaps the strongest political tennant in the Islamic world is prevention of this crime. The truth hurts.
When you address that line of complexity and decision you move to higher levels of abstraction. In doing this it becomes impossible to know wether the act is good or evil. Perhaps a desperate man will ignore the consequences of his desperate act if he feels driven by a force that seems to be good. In that case others may benefit by his downfall, but he cannot. I personally believe that politicians insulate themselves against this type of selflessness, and much is expected of them. We live in a world where political power is less effective than the wills of focused indviduals who are driven by a force that seems good to them. It is a very depressing phenomena. One might consider changing jobs and becoming a dishwasher or a janitor.
In short what I am saying is that having political views is not a wise or safe ambition, and increasingly; having knowlege of political process is becoming tantamount to the life of a common man.
The medium is the message!

I'm sorry if this offends you, but either your keyboard is broken or you have a lazy thumb on one hand.
A comma without a space is a speed bump to the reader. It maybe that I'm the only one that this bothers, but I doubt it.
Your words, however, are worth reading as they are dead on.

Thanks.
You might still check your keyboard out, most of the unspaced comma's seem to be left-handed. Perhaps something is under that side of your spacebar. A good upside down shakeout and bump can do wonders.

The left handed comma is on the mouse.ROTFLOL

they laugh at my humor and then they try to screw with my head. OiVey.
Oh you were saying something about comma's, and I thought of pythagorean comma. It is a philosophical object related to music. The idea is that it is impossible to make an instrument be in perfect tune. One can have each of the twelve scales where the intervals for each of the notes is perfectly tuned but the fifth octave is out of tune by about 80/81. The pythagorean brotherhood describe this as symbolic of sin and redemption.
Sorry that my humor is so miserable. Its just that the truth is not funny!

I really loved this thread. We moved from the humorous to the serious. Really one of the best conversations I've ever had in my life. Who are you? What do you do? I'm in college.
who reads this stuff?
