My prediction:

The NJ Supreme Court allows Lautenberg to take Torch's place on the ballot, the US Supreme Court refuses to hear the case, and Lautenberg wins by 1%

This is assuming Torch resigns 30 or more days before the election, or whether he does or not?

Just a straight prediction on how this fiasco will play out.

Lautenberg is put on the ballot, we do NOT take it to the USSC, and Forrester wins by 2%.

I don't see the "cancel the election" scenario playing out. The US Supreme Court WILL stop any attempt to cancel the election.

New Jersey Court upholds the law as written. Torricelli says well at least I tried, you'll just have to take me as I am. Gets the sympathy vote and wins by narrow margin.

Tony Soprano has one of his crew lean on the judge and not only is Lautenberg allowed to replace Torch the judge rules that Lautenberg is the winner of the election. The judge rules this way to save the state the cost of reprinting all the ballots and disturbing the overseas military voters.

Prediction: The NJ Supreme Court - though kangaroo-like - will stand up for obvious rule of law ... no ballot change allowed after day 50 ... Lout-en-berg will still run, but wont get Torch's money. He have the excuse of a write-in candidacy for Lout not getting many votes - he will be outpolled by Torch, who will get 23% .. Forrester The Clean will get 63% of the vote, only 10% will bother to write in for Lout the Elder, 3rd party will picks up some too ... the confusion will give Forrester the victory, but Dems will WHINE.

All but the last prediction have a chance of NOT coming true!

I am not sure what scenario will play out. But the one thing I do know is Trent Lott will go down swinging before he lets Lautenberg on the ballot.

Let's go out on a limb.

1. The NJ SC will issue a split decision saying Lautenberg can NOT replace Torricelli on the ballot.

2. Torricelli then resigns from the Senate, and McGreevey appoints Lautenberg to serve until the election of 2004.

3. The 2002 election is held anyway, and Forrester defeats the Green Party candidate.

4. Forrester and Lautenberg show up at the Capitol in January, each claiming to be the new Senator from New Jersey.

5. The Senate votes to seat Forrester.

1. NJSC refuses to remove Torch.

2. 'RATS attempt a write-in Campaign for Lautenberg.

3. 'RAT base is too stupid to make this work.

4. Torch resigns and Lautenberg appointed just prior to election. NJ Senate election on 11/5 voided. (sleazy but barely legal under NJ law).

IMHO: The only way Torricelli is removed from the Ballot and replaced by anyone else is if Torch meets an untimely end.


5. Special election called for last Tuesday in December.

6. #5 mooted by GOP making big gains in Senate.

Interesting prediction, which I suppose is premised on the GOP winning back a majority... or perhaps Zell would vote to seat the man who was popularly elected?

As I read the Constitution, the 'Rats cannot have the election nixed by the Torch resigning. It is quite clear that a Senate term is for six years. I don't see how the 'rats can cancel the election without violating the black letter of the 17th Amendment. The USSC would slap 'em down in a second if they tried this.

I agree with your prediction. To avoid being judged as scofflaws, SCONJ will follow NJ law as written.

What the hell is the point of allowing a Dumocrap Controlled state to enact a law with clearly defined parameters if you're going to let the same damn Dumocraps decide not to abide by that law?

Why don't we just ignore the law that says an elected candidate for President isn't President if you're a Dumocrap that doesn't like the outcome? Gore could be President right now...Hell, why that tree stump? Hitlery should be able to declare herself President, huh?

1. New Jersey Supreme Court allows Lousenberg on the ballot, ignoring the clear language of the statute.

2. G.O.P. appeals to SCOTUS for Equal protection violation of military with absentee ballots being disenfranchised; SCOTUS however declines to review case fearing further fallout due to decision in Bush v. Gore

3. New Jersey voters, who have moved from steadily from moderate to liberal due to the influx of immigrants and New Yorkers, narrowly vote Lousenberg into the Senate;

4. Lousenberg resigns Senate seat in early 2004 to have successor chosen by McGreasy to finish out term and run for reelection.

I HOPE I'm wrong, but recent history in New Jersey does NOT give me much confidence...
