Done! We need to let them know that we haven't forgotten and they can't just close this up or pretend it didn't happen. We want to know what happened and we want justice.

If Mr. "D" is interested, tell him I have more that I can't put out here because I can't back it up.
I've been cut off from some of my sources.

Pressure like this might very well help. If nothing else, we'll have some investigators pulling files out of the cabinet on Monday to see where the case stalled.

Don't think you are alone in this. I read every thread and do care, I just seem to have nothing to contribute.

Now there is something I can do...Will begin now to write!

Thanks for your efforts for a fellow FREEPER.

Wilco Cobby.

Please be careful. You're dealing with a case involving at least one very dangerous character.

On the thread linked with the Autopsy and Investigative Reports, carenot, you had posted this:

"No one thinks about Herb now.

He is old news."

How incredibly wrong you are, indicated by just that last thread exceeding 900 replies.

So many of who knew CHIEF and interacted with him or just saw his passion for the tax issues and All Things Military will ALWAYS remember him.

The minute the hands on the clock swung to 0001 on 4 October 2002, my thoughts focused on remembering him, and through my waking hours.

It was my privilege to interact in 1998 and beyond on the Original Freeper Island Series with Billie and Scuttlebutt and Daus and A1stus and harrowup and others - an island in the Marquesas that knew no war, according to Invictus.

Invictus knew, serving in WWII under MacArthur and seeing action all over the Pacific.
We sailed there with Invictus in September 1998 to establish a getaway from Clinton and the Whitewater affairs, where the First Rule was Utmost Civility.

Invictus went from the war to becoming a Military Chaplain, serving two tours in the Korean Conflict, and retired in that capacity.
He escorted 'Home' many of our brothers, and even in retirement, was asked personally by President Reagan to escort 13 bodies found in North Korea and returned long after the war to their final resting places.

CHIEF was a great contributor to our little paradise, once stating he had 'altered' the grass skirts Billie and I had for the Friday night luau lessons - mowed 'em down to 4" long!

He also was our navigator, through a misunderstanding of the words negotiator and navigator, in the now ongoing Sea Sagas with ofMagog.

carenot, he is unforgettable to many, unfailingly kind to newcomers and oldsters alike.

If the power of Free Republic is what we think it is, surely THE MEDIA can be prompted to 'do the walking' for us!
I think success lies most strongly in appealing to them to assist us with this!

That kind of challenge is right up their alley!

~ ~ ~ This was your very last gif(t) to us, CHIEF ~ ~ ~

Your light will shine on and in us Phorever ~ ~ ~

The term I would use isn't murder, but assassination. The CHIEF was assassinated.

Before I wade in knocking heads, as I intend to do, I need to be better informed.

What is the status of the investigation? It is considered a closed case?

What specifically are we asking for? That the case be reopened, or that the investigators devote more manpower to a case that is open, but inactive?

Are there obvious point men who are standing in the way of the case moving forward? Or is it simply a matter of the police running out of leads, throwing up their hands and declaring themselves stumped?

Perhaps you can provide an overview of the case for Freepers to copy and use in their e-mails, calls, snail mail, faxes.

A Summary:

- of who and what he was

- of known activities of that last evening/night

- some of the 'oddities' of the fire, and the location of where his body was found, not by the sink where he might have sought water to soothe burns, but in a fetal position on the floor beside the commode

- unique things found in the autopsy - marks - possible evidence of 'torture' ??

- statement that to the best you can determine, it HAS been ruled, supposedly, Closed so far as the INSURANCE company is concerned

- supposedly NOT Closed so far as the Arson Investigators are concerned

- etc.

Thanks for the ping, COB and the reminder of the anniversary of Chief's death.

Hopefully our e-mails and phone calls will bring action and results from the local officials.

Thank you both for the pings and to COB, for all your hard work and faithful dedication to solving Herb's murder.

It's clear he was killed. Clear as a bell. Now, the $64,000 question is WHO and WHY.

Sadly, only the police will know, and for whatever reason they aren't talking. Nor are they moving - as far as we can tell. Too bad they won't take your calls. IMO, they're closing the lines of communication. That makes zero sense to me. ZERO!

Justice for Chief BUMP!

Cob,

The writer who wrote the original snippet about the fire in the Chronicle was S.K. BARDWELL. I just checked the Chron site, and Bardwell is still writing crime articles for the paper.

I recommend you contact this person and discuss what data you have. Maybe the Chronicle asking questions would cause some movement on the case.

What is the status of the home at this time?
