[Senator] Specter asks probe of Iraq links to WTC-Okla. attacks
Philadelphia Daily News ^ | Sat, Oct. 05, 2002 | ROSE DeWOLF

U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter is calling for a probe into allegations of a possible Iraqi connection between the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City six years earlier.

Specter said he has no plans to pursue the investigation himself, however, but has written to FBI Director Robert Mueller suggesting that the possible connection is worth pursuing.

Earlier this week, Daily News columnist Michael Smerconish wrote a column about the connection theory, which grew out of reports by Jayna Davis, a former television reporter from Oklahoma City who was one of the first on the scene of the Oklahoma bombing.

Davis has investigated early reports about a dark-haired accomplice to convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. The accomplice, identified in a drawing put out by the FBI as "John Doe No. 2," bares a resemblance to an ex-Iraqi soldier who lived in Oklahoma City, Davis learned. And the reporter subsequently came up with evidence indicating that Iraqi nationals were involved in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building.

"I'm a little surprised that this hasn't gotten more attention, given that there is so much concern about whether Iraq has any connections anywhere," Specter said.

According to Smerconish, Davis has 80 pages of affidavits and 2,000 supporting documents to support her theory.

"Who knows?" said Specter, adding that he felt Davis' information should not be overlooked. His key assistant, Tom Swanton, drafted the letter to the FBI, which states that his staff had earlier contacted both the FBI and the Justice Department requesting a briefing on the issues raised by Davis' allegations, but they were rebuffed.

Specter plans to meet with Davis on Thursday.

You bet. And I'll keep pissing, since I'm evidently not a real conservative.

After all, *real* conservatives like you are simply beside themselves, ready to give Arlin a medal for doing what should have been done years ago. Yes, Arlin's finally getting up to speed. He's going to get to the bottom of it. Really.

Spare me the insufferable dialogue about *real* conservatives. If Free Republic is any indication, the *real* conservatives have been busy ridiculing the Oklahoma City/Iraqi connection on Free Republic for years. When they weren't doing that, however, they were busy banning people who had the guts to talk about it.

Of course, now that the idiot, Specter, is on the bandwagon, the *real* conservatives want to blame others for being divisive. How quaint. How typically "conservative."

Ah, don't worry. The *real* conservatives are here to jump on the bandwagon, now that the nitwit, Specter, is on the case.

And they'll be sure to lecture everyone else about how divisive they are, since they've evidently banned the "tinfoilers" who were making them look so conspiratorial and unprofessional.

FWIW, OKCSubmariner's banning has never set well with me- he may have pushed the envelope, but his dogged investigation was something we need to see more of.

It will help have a "big name" like Fox mention this- most people don't really think a thing is "real" unless they see & hear it on the TV. I'm not saying I like this, but it's a fact- talk radio covered a lot of this stuff years ago, and while it raised doubts, it never went anywhere with the public. They have to see it on the TV...

lol..purged him too, did they?

Hilarious.

FReepers should be aware - for as long as this post lasts - the FR is highly edited. People who don't stick to the official line get 'deleted'. Luckily that only applies to post and accounts, but the way things are headed...
Might as well write the history books here at FR. This place is nothing like it once was. I do believe such information control could be considered propaganda.

Of course Spektre is also trying to write the history books with this, removing the Klinton connection for our domestic Reichstag. Mr Magic Bullet, himself... lol. Wonder how he got his Senate committee?

Say... how did Saddam manage to remove the bombs from the building after the blast?

Nevermind, I'll disappear too if I post too many questions, I guess.

I caught the tale end of Smerconish"s talk show just the other day with Jayna Davis and I *swear* he said he got no where with Specter. Wonder what has changed since then?

I posted some information on the OK City bombing and got a personal reply from a freeper that he was of the opinion that McVeigh was helped by a right wing militia group. I thought this rather quaint and wondered why he was so concerned that I suspected the Iraqis were involved. He had an axe to grind, that was for sure.

What ever happened to clinton's Presidental Directive #25? I thought we'd hear all about it once he was gone, but, nothing! I hope Bush didn't seal that too!

How many reports have we seen over the years that have come out in connection? It has been sick. None of the other networks want to connect this to Iraq. It is so long over due ala Flight 800. Let's kill 2 birds with one stone Arlen and knock out OKC and TWA at the same time, shall we?

Bush .... Clinton

The former appears to be in the business of protecting the latter, and the latter is definitely in the business of criticizing the former.

I posted this the other day. I also just remembered that Michael also said he had read in (WSJ, NYT ?? - I forget)that Donald Rumsfeld said last week that he had "bullet proof info of an Iraqi connection to terrorism." Michael started to speculate that maybe this could be that info?? He didn't know. But it's out there now.

UPDATE - MICHAEL SMERCONISH RADIO SHOW 10-4-02 4:20pm

Michael just announced on his show that he was in receipt of a fax letter from Sen Arlen Spector (whom he knows well) replying to him re: Jayna Davis info. This gist of the leter is: Dear Director Meuller!!!! Spector told him he was in receipt of the FULL FILE of Jayna Davis in which it is alleged that Iraqi nationals (and perhaps Al Qada) were involved in OKC bombings. Jayna contacted his office with the information. **slight paraphrasing** here - *It is my understanding that members of my staff contacted your office requesting briefings on this matter - and were rebuffed.** It is also my understanding that briefings were offered to James Woolsey and he delined the offer. In light of the congressional hearings going on, don't you think this matter requires further investigating.** A CC was sent to John Ashcroft. Michael said info of this letter would be made public in a statement later today by Spector's office. Michael also said that Spector would welcome Jayna to his office, and Michael asked him if he could sit in on the conference WITH MICROPHONES. Spector said yes, and now Michael is working on broadcasting this radio show. He said "Don't miss the show next week." Also, apparently, this is getting lots of play. Michael mentioned that it was on the FREE REPUBLIC website, Lucianne, and another that I forgot to write down. But that the internet was abuzz with this infor. And he has received literally 1000's of e-mails about this subject since Wednesday, when he had Jayna on his show. PS. I copied and pasted the recipients names from various posts. If I neglected to post anyone that you know is interested, please ping them for me. Thanks. 139 posted on 10/4/02 4:43 PM Eastern by baseballmom [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 79 | View Replies | Report Abuse ] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

McVeigh was helped by a right wing militia group.

That's what Clinton spun, and many believed it. McVeigh went to one malitia meeting and was kicked out for being too radical. LOL. (Clinton is a total arse.)

perhaps a note to "powers that be" that perhaps we were a bit too hasty in our exercise of "kicking" folks who espouse the theory that governments sometimes cover things up for political reasons....

In fact... we probably owe the guy an apology. I am not holding my breath.

The investigatory, curious mindset of freerepublic has been dimished by his, and a few of his fellow travelers absence. I would like to see us request he be reinstated. THIS could be one VERY hot issue for the next six weeks, or months.
