Police in the Washington, D.C. area say it is too early to say whether a fatal shooting in a western suburb is related to a recent series of sniper attacks that has left six people dead and two others critically wounded. Authorities say a man was shot and killed late Wednesday as he filled his car at a gasoline station in Manassas, Virginia. Forensic evidence is still being analyzed. The sniper attacks have been linked by ballistics evidence.
Reports say certain elements of the Manassas shooting bear a resemblance to the sniper shootings, which began around the Washington area last Wednesday. Like the man killed in Manassas, all of the sniper victims were shot once, seemingly at random as they performed everyday tasks. Two of the people killed last week also were gunned down at gasoline stations.
Meanwhile, authorities say they are searching for a white van seen driving away from the location of the Manassas shooting. Police have been searching for a white vehicle in connection with the shootings last week. News reports early Wednesday said police discovered what may be the first known communication from the killer: a card used in fortunetelling, said to have written on it a message telling police, "I am God."
The card, known as a Tarot card, reportedly was found, along with a spent shell casing, near a school in a Maryland suburb where a sniper attack Monday left a 13-year-old boy critically wounded.
Police officials say they did not authorize information about the card to be released to the media and refused to comment further on the matter or other details of the investigation. Federal authorities are assisting in the investigation.

About 6 pm Wednesday:Jim Martin, 55 year old White male shot at Shoppers Food Warehouse parking lot in 2200 block of Randolph Road (Glenmont Shopping Center). a program coordinator with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a top notch professional and history buff with a unique sense of humor. Martin spearheaded the office adoption of a DC elementary school.
7:41 am Thursday: James L. Buchanan, a 39-year-old white male landscaper . Man shot while mowing a lawn at 11411 Rockville Pike (White Flint near intersection with Nicholson Lane (in front of Bryant Automobile?). Buchanan was identified as the son of a retired Montgomery County police officer.
8:10 am Thursday: Premkumar Walekar, 54, Indian from India was shot dead as he made his daily stop at a Silver Spring Mobil gas station. The cab driver from India leaves behind a wife, a daughter, and a son. Male cab driver shot while filling up at a Mobil station at the intersection of Aspen Hill Road and Connecticut Avenue. This guy worked for presidential cab.
8:37 am Thursday: Sarah Ramos, 34, of Silver Spring , Hispanic woman shot in head sitting on bench outside of the United States Post Office next to the Leisure World Retirement community in Silver Spring (on Rossmoor Road).a witness reported seeing a white van or truck speed from the post office parking lot.
9:58 am Thursday:Lori Lewis Rivera-- 25-year-old Lori Lewis Rivera white female who was gunned down while vacuuming her minivan at a gas station in Kensington Thursday morning. Woman shot in head at the Shell gas station at the intersection of Connecticut Ave and Knowles in Kensington.
9:15 pm Thursday: Pascal Charlot, 72, african american of Washington, DC, killed while standing on a street in the nation's capital. In Northwest Washington, The 72-year-old Northwest man was standing on Georgia Avenue just inside the distrcit line when he was struck by a sniper's bullet.
Michael's craft store-- On Friday afternoon, a 43-year-old woman (race unknown?) who had been loading purchases from a Michaels craft store in Fredericksburg, Virginia, was hit by a bullet that pierced her lower back, exited her chest and came to rest inside her Toyota minivan. She was in stable condition Sunday in a Fairfax hospital.
Tasker Middle school At 8:09 a.m. Monday, a 13-year-old boy (race unknown)was shot and critically wounded outside a middle school in Maryland's Prince George's County.

Vietnam vets say snipers who led U.S. search-and-destroy missions were said to be "taking God's view" when they took up positions in high ground - which makes the God reference in the killer's taunting note doubly suspicious.
During the Vietnam War, some soldiers put death cards in the mouths of the slain enemy; others nailed the cards to the foreheads, and still others dropped them from the air.
Retired Lt. Col. Michael Lee who wrote a history of snipers in Vietnam said many of them used the ace of spades as a calling card because the Vietnamese considered it a death card.
Another theory that is being thrown around today is that if there are two people involved it might be that they are having a contest between them as to who can shoot better. Its Sickening if that is the case.
What's the latest on that?
FWIW, I think I'll pump my gas with my head lower than the car. They should at least bring back the locks that allow you to leave the pump. This should be done immediately in that area.
If the two-mkan theory is true, I like the theory that it may be two men in competition with each other to see who is the better shot. A sick and twisted game of one upmanship.

I have been hearing the reports that there was something else written on the card that they have not released to the public. Yesterday I had a theory that the President's life was threatened and that was why his bodyguards were helping look for the killer. What do you think of that theory?

According to reports I heard on the radio, this victim had just paid for his gas and was returning to his car.

No, the self serve places remove them in CT. I don't know if its a business thing to avoid over pumping or state law.
Just the fact the sniper has repeatedly done this means that a useful profile of his probable methods can be deduced by experts - and should have been by now. It isn't showing competence or inteligence that this keeps happening.
While I think someone could get to Bush if they wanted too, I don't think that's the case here. This guy does not want to get caught, contrary to the babble you hear from the profilers on the news channels. Let's take a look at what we know
1) Capability. The guy is a decent shot which points to a military background. While many Freepers have pointed out that any halfway decent hunter could make that shot, they forget that this guy is shooting children. It's 2 different things to hit a deer and to pull the trigger when a child is in the scope.
2)Motive. This guy is not a psycho. He's not throwing 6 or 7 shots into his victims which would indicate rage. He is one shot, one kill all the way. Plus psychos tend to leave clues or establish a pattern. His only motive can be to promote terror and paralyze the area surrounding the nations capital. That would point directly to the Muslims. I don't think it's a home grown "right wing NRA whacko". I think they would have a definite pattern of hitting immigrants, minorities, law enforcement officials,or liberals.
3) Who. I don't think it is a Muslim. While spectacular when it comes to blowing themselves up, they lack the requisite skill to be so methodical on a consistent basis. This guy comes in, sets up the shot, takes it, hits the target, and escapes into thin air, time after time despite the manhunt. He has to be ex-military.
This brings me to my conclusion that it is someone with extensive military training (the marksmanship and the planning) who has done this before (to shoot a child in cold blood is horrific). The conflict in the former Yugoslavia had a number of sniper teams that would target the other sides women and children. That's where I would start to look. I would also check with private firms that specialize in protecting executives overseas to see who the top assassins in the world are. This guy is getting paid very well to do this.

I respect Col. North, but he's way off here. I am the age of many early Viet Vets and I still shoot long-range varmit shots well beyond what's being done in these terror shootings. Age is not a measure of shooting skills involved in this situation. Experience, savvy and knowledge are far more important.
