This Guy Must Be Ex-Military
Posted on 10/11/2002 1:54:26 PM PDT by GulliverSwift
This guy must be ex-military. Look at his skill in slipping away, only trained snipers can do that.
The most recent shooting in Virginia happened when he shot the guy with a police officer 50 yards away. Dang, how do you slip away from that?
That's one of the things they know how to do, not only shoot the guy, but slip away with skill.

Either that or these Washington-area police are complete bafoons, which I'm willing to accept. All looking for a white van, even though there are so many white vans out there you could count 30 easily if you stand by the road.

Or..... Trained terrorists?...
To: GulliverSwift
Could be ex-military, what about terrorist? Al-Qaeda? Don't know which it is but is someone with lots of training methinks.
imagine if the guy drove an SUV
To: GulliverSwift
Remember, though, as an example of LE talent in that neighborhood, that the DC Chief of Police "guaranteed" that Chandra Levy's killer would be caught.

A hit at 100 yards through a scope? Doesn't sound like a world-class sniper to me. Elmer Fudd could get hits under those circumstances.
Regarding the cop, he is a cop, not Sherlock Holmes. He was writing an accident report, not looking for a sniper.

Could be. After all, the Al Qaeda/Taliban fighters, including Osama Bin Laden, got their first set of .50 calibar sniper rifles compliments of the U.S. government way back in the 1980s.

maybe ex-afghan military
To: GulliverSwift
If there's two, a shooter and a driver as suspected, then getting away wouldn't be all that hard. There's major highways just seconds from where many of the shootings have taken place. It would be nothing to get on an entry ramp and be out of the area is minutes.

The guy's an ex-military type hired to do the job by a third party. He's a mercenary, plain and simple.

I don't see the point in turning this guy into superman when it's not required by the evidence.
Though strangely, I think people find it comforting...the idea that that someone with a limited amount of practice with an inexpensive, commonly avaliable rife could do this is far more terrifying than the idea that it's some highly-trained supersniper.

I would submit that this guy has mostly stricken people who were either fueling their cars or soon to be entering one to travel. Perhaps this means nothing. I will submit that he has also stricken people at seven different name brand gas stations.
Then consider this. He stated that, "I am God." Gotta tell ya, if you think like an eco freak, that could mean that he is acting as God's hand, desiminating justice as if by His will.
Just think what these users of carbon emitting vehicles are doing to mother nature! Have they been judged and found wanting? If so, expect this guy to get the same treatment as the Uni-Bomber. Oh he's a poor fellow who meant well. We can't give him the McVeigh treatment...
To: GulliverSwift
No, it could be anybody. Anyone with minimal rifle skills can hit a human-sized target at 100 yds and getting away is no more complicated than driving off. 1000 yds, that's definitely military or a very well-trained shooter. A tenth of that, my little sister could do it. (No offense, sis...oh heck, I'd better start watching the bushes now...)
To: GulliverSwift
It could be kids (young adults), like the Columbine killers, who may be into video games or Dungeons and Dragons or crazy music. Or he may be a terrorist. Don't put too much stock in the escapes of this killer. The same thing was said by instant "experts" about Andrew Cunanan, the master criminal who killed Versace and several other people and left clues all over the place when he did so. Cunanan's "brilliance" included stealing a red pickup truck with NJ Park Service emblazoned on the door (he killed the park worker to get it) and parking it openly in Miami Beach for several months before he used his "criminal brilliance" to shoot Versace in public view. A lot of catching criminals depends on where the police are at the time the crime is committed and what they notice. The particular brazeness of the horrible criminals here may actually aid their escape.

Just because the policman was only 50 feet from the victim, doesn't mean the sniper was anywhere near that close to the policeman. He could have been 200-300 yards in the opposite direction.

I agree! Remember those Al-Q tapes CNN showed of their training abilities? And also I heard that some Arabs had signed up or paid huge amount of money to be trained by some ex-green baret soldiers...I think you call them missioneries...any way it's a private and very exclusive training club and they teach you all the technics for survival and teach how to use high power guns etc. They charge in the thousands! I hope I'm wrong though...:(

While some .50's were sent to the Afhgans fighting the Soviets, the Talibunnys weren't a big part of that, nor was OBL. They hung around and picked up the pieces after the Soviets left and the various factions had at each other. Very much like the Bolsheviks or ChiComs under Mao, husband your forces, let somebody else do the real fighting, and then take over from them by taking advantage of their weakened condition.

That's the whole point. He's in their face, taunting them, showing that they cannot protect people.
To: GulliverSwift
Or a turkey hunter.
The guy looks just like me when I'm bear hunting. Furthermore, I've made some of the shots they're claiming with open, iron sights and a roundball loaded musket.
I really hope they catch this guy soon and I truly hope he isn't an American, regardless of how nuts he may be.
The religious among you should pray to your God that this ******* is caught tonight.

More likely two twenty something misfits who have some hunting experience. They are sniper wannabees. They have seen the movie "Sniper" (Great movie)too many times. If they were military they would be using a deer rifle, they would be firing from a longer range, and they probably wouldnt be fleeing the area by van. They would merely lie in place or crawl away (in plain sight). Each shooting had a wooded park area nearby.
BTW, the cop was dealing with an accident on the expressway and he was 50 yards from the shooting victim, not the shooter.

You are out of your mind. I am not military and I can hit a target at 200 Yards, get in my "white van" and drive away in the confusion with no problem.

Hope everyone knows that some of the nation's law enforcement elite train down at the U.S. Marines base at Quantico, VA, just a short trip up/down I-95 from both Fredericksburg and today's crime scene.
The perp(s) are obviously smart enough to know how to elude authorities in an area where several members of the law enforcement community live, work and play.

Gotta tell ya, if you think like an eco freak, that could mean that he is acting as God's hand, desiminating justice as if by His will. That's an interesting take on the killer. My sense is that he is (with apologies to our very own freeper swarthyguy) a swarthy guy, disgruntled with being overlooked or passed over....perhaps an ex-cop or special forces guy, perhaps one of allah's darling little terrorist martyrs...but those Allah fellows have so far martyred themselves whilst killing others. I think the Koran gives tham that directioon. So if he's a muslim terrorist, he's a renegade; if he's an ex-cop or serviceman, he's a renegade. And if he's an ecofreak, well, he's prety mainstream for that bunch.....You really may be onto something!

I wonder how long it is until the police have a good enough idea of his MO that they can figure out a couple of possible target areas and forgetting "Posse Commitatus", post a few real special ops snipers in wait for him. Like to see the look on his face when he looks in his scope to find his target of the day and sees a puff of smoke in the distance. BANG!!

Earlier on FNC, Cavuto was talking with David Hackworth. Hackworth said he felt it was domestic, not imported.
He also said it takes a sniper to get a sniper.
To: GulliverSwift
I once went on a "hash" run in Dallas (about 1990 IIRC, younger, lighter, chick involved) that went about a half mile thru a city storm sewer. People were looking at all these insane runners wondering where they all came from.
What's the big deal about appearing out of nowhere, or just disappearing, with something that handy nearby to either emerge from or slip away in?

IMHO, your suggestion would be counterproductive. We want these perp(s) taken alive.
Also, they could very well be recently ex- or current LEO/military. They probably have sophisticated technical gear locked in on all police communications.

Well, my thoughts are nothing but hot air at this point. It will be interesting to see what the motivation was. Obviously the largest facilitating factor was mental illness.

I think Hackworth is probably right. Especially since any so-called "foreign looking", "suspicious" characters seen down in THOSE particular areas of Virginia would have attracted more attention from the local folks than someone who looks more "like from 'round here". ;-)

hold on. I just got in. Let me take off my gillie suit.

Indeed, It's part of the "bogeyman" tradition that these guys get built up into terrifying supermen; but these seem to only exist in movies, it's amazing how pathetic they often turn out to be in reality.
Cunnane is a good example, but Berkowitz is one too....the Summer of the Son of Sam, I don't think anyone was expecting the guy to turn out to be a pathetic little lump of a man. Heck, plenty of people still aren't "satisfied" that he was scary enough and lived up to the hype and you still have "massive Satanic conspiracy" types running around.

To: GulliverSwift
I have a weird theory. What if the sniper is in "training" for a bigger attack...as in, shooting at the President? Look at how he is operating..during the day, in crowded areas, even with police around. Just my two cents, but a thought anyway.

No apologies required.:>> I would not want to be part of a two man Egyptian painting crew in a white van this rush hour.
To: PoisedWoman
My sense is that he is ... a swarthy guy, disgruntled with being overlooked or passed over....perhaps an ex-cop or special forces guy...I'm thinking an ex-cop or a cop wannabee. He knows the local area and local PDs, and was able to flee today and avoid a huge dragnet. When they finally catch him/them, I think they'll discover a scanner with all of the local/state frequencies programmed in.
To: GulliverSwift
At least we can live in comfort thinking that this guy had to wait a few days to get the gun he bought over the counter, so he was not able to regenge his victimization for a couple of days ... allowed him to cool off, ya know?
And doubly comforting thinking of how many pent-up conservatives are waiting to get a gun right now ... a dead conservative cannot claim "self-defense" as they are like to do.
To: ET(end tyranny)
I don't think so. I think one of the greatest concerns right now is that an innocent civilian will be peppered with bullets by some poorly trained and/or trigger happy LEO.

father/mother/child/priest/king all will die
Been posted in several of the earlier threads on the card.
I wondered then if king could = president
At the time I was thinking because of Prince George county, King George county
I forget which states each of those counties belong to. Maryland and Virgina??
I think it was shortly after the card came out that the SS joined the hunt. Could be just a coincidence, and then again maybe not.

I'm thinking an ex-cop I'm thinking at least 2. 1 ex cop AND 1 ex military. One knows police procedures and can think like a cop. The other, weapons, stealth and tactical strategy.
May even be a third involved.

That would be an outrageous violation of American law, even on the sly or qt. Maybe Sen. Bryd and several others have been absolutely right in their defense of the Constitution of the United States - whoops, sorry, I digress. ;-)
