"I think Turkey is one of our strongest allies in modern history."

I agree with your statement, and if you go back, into previous discussions on Turkey, you will see that I suggested we take Turkey as the 51st State of the USA, instead of giving her away to the EU. What is your opinion on this?

Give Turkey two seats in the US Senate, 75 seats in the Congress, one governor, and get their military under the pentagon wing. The Turkish people will be delighted to be US citizens, ten times better than being Euro-citizens!

My opinion is that there is less than a snowballs chance in Hell that our best friend in the Middle East will become our 51st state.

Unfortunatly, there is even less chance of Turkey being allowed to join the EU..

Both of you did a better job explaining the situation than this garbage article from the WT.

We do need to put Turkey 'in our pocket' and beat the EU and the Arab axis to the punch. Turkey has been a good ally for decades, and never gave us the grief our Euroweenie 'allies' have given us.

Turks fought with us in the Korean War, provided us with TONS of intelligence in the Cold War and provided logistical support in the war on terror. Turkey is our number one ally in that region of the world.

BTW: Since when did Freepers become a bunch of Woodrow Wilsons and insist that all countries must be "democracies."

Do you think Iraq, should be a "democracy"?

Not necessarily. Remember that Chile under Pinochet grew to be the most successful market-based economy in Latin America, as opposed to the various Democratic Socialist (and under Allende, openly Marxist) goevernments that preceded him.

I doubt Iraq will ever produce a Pinochet. What matters to me most is that the government is friendly to the United States, but enjoys a large enough base of supports where it won't fall like a house of cards when the US pulls out.

I'd forgotten that. Somtimes life is perverse. I don't care for Moon at all, but the WTimes is a better source of info than the NYT or the WP.

We've been treating them bad ever since we ignored old Ben Franklin's advice, and made the eagle our national bird...

The left has been working very successfully to spread the intellectual "democracy uber alles" disease into the conservative movement for a long time.
