However, he speculated the responses were an indication of goodwill and welcome towards Canadians should the government ever decide on its own that it wants to join the United States.

I tend to agree with this reasoning. I don't think anyone wants to "take over" Canada. But if they wanna join our little party (and not be socialists), why not?

"I doubt if the average American knows enough about Canada to make a reasoned assessment, what the pros and cons might be," said Waller. "There's really an abysmal level of ignorance about Canada in the United States so I don't know what conclusions you can reach."

Hold muh red pen!

There's really an abysmal level of ignorance about Canada in the United States

Looks like Leger Marketing wanted to raise some cheap publicity, hence this "poll".

I would certainly like to know more about their methods, especially who the "respondents" were and the complete text of the questions. For example, are we talking forced annexation or voluntary? Seems like an important point, don't you think?

I don't know any Americans who would support invading Canada. That's the domain of freaky, lunatic-fringe psycho tinfoilers. It's patently absurd.

This stinks of media grandstanding. I seriously doubt this so-called poll has any validity at all.

100% of Americans I have surveyed about this poll think it's a bunch of bovine excrement, myself included.

6 out of 10 Canadians support it too! Come on down. We'll soon have a healthcare system as lousy as yours. (If Hilly has her way.) You won't notice any difference at all.

The English Canucks I've met over the years are very nice people. Their government sucks. Creeping socialism, and their PM is a coward. Read the other posts here on FR. The Canadians are ashamed of him in regards to our quest against Hussein.

Canada has no reason to panic. The United States will never "annex" Canada against their will. However, I believe that the U.S. and Canada are so similar that it makes sense for us to become one country. Just think, together we could be the largest nation on earth. Even larger in area than Russia or China. And Canadians will get a nice bargain as well, they would be an integral part of the richest and most powerful nation on earth.

I think it will happen someday. But only when the people of Canada are ready for it.
