Like it or not, the military has to change its focus and arenas of battle. Are you seriously against F-16's patrolling the skies to guard against "civilian" criminals crashing civilian airliners into civilian buildings?
Rome did not allow the army to be in the city of Rome. There was good reason for this. When it did, they had spectre of Romans killing Romans.
How many more Americans are you willing to allow to die to satisfy your version of "Political Correctness"?
The death of 9 Americans is a categorically better than the spectre of the US military enforcing civilian law. Millions could die in that scenario.
Martial law is a scary thing. We need to avoid it at all costs.
We don't. Why should we assume that the absence of evidence is actually evidence in the affirmative? And furthermore, why in the world wouldn't they tell the American public? Don't we deserve to know what we are supposed to be preparing ourselves for? Are we capable of defending our own lives or are we to leave it in the hands of the FBI and other "benevolant" agencies who couldn't prevent the attacks of 9/11?
At all costs? You are more than happy to sacrifice nine lives (presumably as long as yours isn't one of them). How about 900 lives? 9,000? How about 9,000? Nine million?
What's the plan, Stan? Quit bitching and howling and come up with a workable plan. Do something constructive for a change.
To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions;
Thouroughly Constitutional and within the bounds of Posse Comitatus, a law enacted in, I believe, 1886.
It seems that some people on FR see only the parts they want to in an article.
As you said, not only are there 9 dead Americans now, but the economy is being affected also. People are afraid to go shopping, go out to eat, or make any non-essential stops on their way to and from work. My daughter lives in the area and I know how it's affecting her ..... and there are thousands if not millions feeling the same way.
I vote that you protect yourself and are given all information and access to arms that would make that job possible.
If you lived next door to an Army base and you drove home to find a street gang killing your mother and raping your wife and daughter, would you call the Army base for help because you think the U.S. Army is the appropriate way to respond to crime?
If the snipers are al-Qaida or if the snipers are even reasonably suspected to be al-Qaida, then this action is appropriate.
Absolutely.
Is the DOD a militia? Are we facing an insurrection? Is Bush doing anything to repel the Mexican invasion?
