Computer Voting Is Open to Easy Fraud, Experts Say
New York Times ^ | 7/24/03 | John Schwartz
This story is getting alot of play overseas. The guys who "found" the code have written some reports on what they've been able to do with it. Pretty damning, these computer voting/counting programs need done away with. I'll gladly wait a few more hours for results to insure they reflect the views of the voters.
And what the hell does "the state's interest" have to do with it? Voting is a right of THE PEOPLE, not the state. The state doesn't have rights, only constitutionally limited powers.

As soon as the Democrats learn that this easily hacked system can be used to their voter fraud advantage, they'll be all for it.

Atlanta Journal and Constitution ^ | Aug 23, 2003 | Jim Galloway
I think it was Lenin who said it doesn't matter who votes, it's who counts them. A verifiable paper trail is the only way to preserve our right to choose our leaders. For some reason our leaders seem hellbent on preventing that from happening.

The thumbnail super-condensed version is that Diebold Election Systems sells an electronic vote system that was designed to allow easy vote tampering. The circumstancial evidence is that they DID hack the vote in Georgia's Nov. 2002 races as a test (Diebold runs the whole election in that state).
Diebold has extensive ties to the Republican party.

MediaStudy/ArtVoice ^ | 10/30/03 | Michael I. Niman
The main effort seems to be to force websites to remove the files hacked from a company server. Some of email between employees, if true, is pretty damning. Getting alot of coverage in the alternative media but the mainstream press doesn't seem to be willing to cover the story.

He helped "nursing home residents" vote absentee. Elsewhere in the nation, this Democratic program has involved (1) paying these guys piecework for delivered votes, and (2) voting for people that are cognitively dysfunctional.

AP ^ | 12-29-03 | TED BRIDIS
Gee, I thought the technology was to be 'fool-proof'. This is PRECISELY what we have been claiming IS a major weakness. And this is why it is SO INSANE for these companies to refuse to have simultaneous anonymous date-stamped hard-copy paper printout/'receipt' for votes cast... It means that the fraud which could easily be perpetrated by a hacker...will go undetected...or if detected, uncorrectable.

Thanks for bumping this. I am almost done with an early Christmas gift -
Means of Ascent by Robert Caro, Book Two of the most comprehensive biography of Lyndon Johnson ever written.
It goes into incredible detail of perhaps the most blatant vote fraud ever perpetrated for a federal office - Johnson's 1948 election to the U.S. Senate. It is truly breathtaking the scope of the vote stealing. It makes me angry reading it, because he stole an election and soiled the reputation of a respectable man, Coke Stevenson. Johnson was a shameless man with no class at all. He was a joke and I'm glad he fled office in disgrace. Strong language but the depth of Johnson's lying and duplicity was a wart on our Republic.
