Very goood. Moose seemed unnerved. Why would he make mention (first) of the great job that the Sheriff did last night???
To: Rebelbase
Here's what happened...the sniper called and Moose answered the phone with
this response. Then the FBI took over and had him ask the killer to call again so they can handle it
To: All
OR MAYBE...
The sniper left a note and asked them to put a certain phone number into service (maybe a phone number the sniper will easily remember or the phone number spells something out). The cops have now put the number into service and it is working as a direct link to maybe Chief Moose. They are letting the sniper know that his request has been done and it completed. Now they want him to call.

Thank you for the info. I forgot about that.

I work for the gov't.

Moose said the PERSON would understand but everyone else would NOT. NO KIDDING! lol!See my #29.
To: MeeknMing
This is OBVIOUSLY the Onion because no LE would ever do that.
Rather, by not answering, a second message would appear.
To: Cboldt
Maybe he didn't... I'm sure the police know what they're talking about...
To: Lillee
I, also a lurker, agree. It's a cell phone.

Okay... But I thought the incident last night wasn't connected? It was my understanding that it hasn't been connected through ballistics, however, they are handling it as though it is connected until proven otherwise because of MO.
To: MeeknMing
I can't believe the number of people on this thread that think a phone number is married to a specific location. Verizon (or whoever) could have that number permanently redirected anywhere in the globe in about 3 minutes.
Scenarios:
1. Message with fake number. Telco maps that number to police line.
2. Message with real number, nobody home. If a real number was left, the FBI cleaning service has already done a thorough job at that location. Same scenario.
3. Message had number of police, tip line, etc.
Every carrier has 24 hour staff dedicated to law enforcement for this specific purpose.

I'll bet this wasn't the shooter. Think he's going to break cover and trot on down to the shooting scene? I think it was a witness to the shooting...maybe somebody waiting in their car for a kid to get out of the bathroom or something. When the shots rang out they split out of fear.

Hey Joe! You going to start us up a thread again for Game 2? Just about that time! :-)) Can you believe we're watching Dallas v. Ariz 6-6 OT?? ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz

When I first heard Chief Moose make his statement-I assumed that a witness left a number and they were trying to reestablsih contact with a witness at the Ponderosa. The media is as confused as we are-especially since Chief Moose said he would not take any questions. They have now sent out someone to clarify the situation-and she is repeating the same phrase again. The media is totally confused, hope whoever "the person" is-they understand the message.
To: rs79bm
Well duh ! Kind of obvious isn't it :o)
Stay Safe !
To: Lion's Cub
Spokesperson..."I cannot explain it to you it is part of the investigation"...the person will understand it.
The person who left the message is who the chief is trying to communicate with..."To the person who left us a message at the Ponderosa last night...we do want to talk with you, please call the number that you provided"...

Sheesh, reporters are dumber than hell. How many times does the spokesperson have to explain that the message is not for them to understand.
To: Wild Irish Rogue
The woman repeating Chief Moose's message, is Officer Utter-I am not making this up.
To: OXENinFLA
Couldn't they just look up the address registered to that phone number?

Mmmmm... who did you say you were calling? This is chief Moose speaking... call me back later so we can track you down.
Next thing will be Dirty Harry dropping a bag full of money under a park tower.
Keystone Cops circa 2002! This is just some a-hole pulling Mooses chain.

Oh... I thought it was a different type of bullet?
To: marajade
The bullet is still in the person who was shot.
To: vollmond
There are any number of logical reasons for the wording of the announcement, and none of them give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

It is my understanding that the bullet from last night's shooting remains in the victim....at least that's what we are being told by his doctors.
To: KsSunflower
okay...
To: Lion's Cub
Somebody reported on a thread here within the past couple of days that the current National Enquirer has an article saying that the sniper has been leaving notes at several of his recent shooting sites. Has anybody seen the article?
To: July 4th
I think that the number was for the Mars Pathfinder that Shiela Jackson Lee said was on the moon.
Or it might have been to the dead brain sucking alien that is still perched on her head.
To: undergroundwarrior
Very goood. Moose seemed unnerved. Why would he make mention (first) of the great job that the Sheriff did last night??? Exactly. This was not a note left at the scene. Moose only mentioned a "message left at the Ponderosa". It was a phone message after the perp had got away.
He is ridiculing Moose's incompetence and forcing him to admit that the other chief in Ashland (anybody know is name?) deserves to be the lead investigator.
To: kcvl
..."To the person who left us a message at the Ponderosa last night...we do want to talk with you, please call the number that you provided"... Maybe he left a Cell Phone behind for the police.
To: Peach
how 'bout reading the thread before posting? There are several options already suggested above your post.
To: MeeknMing
Poor Moose thought he would move to Md. where his competence would never be questioned.

The sniper left a note It was not a note. It was a phone message.

It was not a note. It was a phone message. We don't know in what form the message was left. It could have been a phone message on the machine at the ponderosa, it could have been a note, or a cell phone...they haven't said...they haven't even said that it was from the sniper.
To: Peach
"Well, this is like bizaroo world." You are a number one right about that, Peach. Well said.
To: Squantos
Here's the message:
If you want to talk to me, I'll call you at this number: 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx.
Pretty simple, huh?

It's not likely that a ME terorist would leave a number for the police. Why not?
My theory:
Sniper left a cell phone behind that he is going to call.
Mrs. Fixit's theory:
Sniper left behind a number that leads to one of those anonymous voice mailbox services, (advertising supported things that hook to web freemail) and the like, and the sniper will call in and leave messages, then the bad guy will call in and leave messages.

"how long will it be before we have a composite photo of the telephone?"
LOL... but probably not too far off the mark. Certainly when I heard they were analyzing the ink on the Tarot Card to see if they could identify what kind of pen wrote it I thought, well, what's next... a wanted sketch of a BIC ballpoint pen?
To: Peach
but why doesn't Moose call the number that was left?
Probably because the note had other instructions. Moose did not read the entire note.

Why is everyone jumping to the conclusion that is was a written message left at the scene? It was a phone call I bet after the perp barely got away and was impressed with the Ashland chief.
The sniper is riduculing Moose.
To: Endeavor
I think that Moose handled the press conference tonight very well. His job is to solve crimes, not make the media happy.
Frankly, I think he should have handled all of the press conferences in this manner. They should have just been statements. He never answered any questions anyway. By taking questions that he couldn't answer, he just looked like he was bumbling around.
To: OXENinFLA
As far as I know, mooses don't have utters... they have teats.
But then again, I haven't seen Mrs. Utter.
BTW, I think the word is udder. ;^O

Moose made this statement in person? Even though he said there would be no statements before Monday?
