Also, although England's murder rate is only one-sixth of America's

Yeah, that's some accomplishment, considering that Englands' population is about one-sixth of the US population.

England's murder rate is increasing, while the United States murder rate is decreasing.

Hmm. Englands' restricting gun ownership, while more and more states are enacting CCW laws. Shouldn't it be the OTHER way around?

Does anyone have the rate for england before they started banning guns way back when?

There is an important point here that many people fail to see. The murder rate in England now is 50% higher than a century ago when guns were unregulated and everyone had them. It is one of the best arguments against gun control in England. At the beginning of the 21st century nobody has guns but murders are substantially greater than the beginning of the 20th century when everybody had them and you could carry them anywhere. Ironically, they decided to regulate them to keep the socialists/communists from fomenting a revolution in the 1920's. Talk about short-sighted, and it clearly didn't do much to stop the socialists...

This is the type of statistics I am looking for. I have heard these type of statistics before (and don't doubt them), but I don't have a definitive souce for them. Can anyone direct me to one, and for the U.S. as well. I have a difficult time quoting statistics in arguments without any source material to back them up if called on them. In particular, I am wanting to confront a certain local radio talk show host that likes to come back from opposition he can't really refute with a statement like "Okay, so name one". Most conservative opponents of his are left looking like a fool when this happens, and I'd rather not end up that way when I'm sure my argument is valid.

Actually, the proper way to measure the murder rate is by population demographics.

England has a largely homogeneous population of caucasians.

Crime rates of homogeneous populations show that the US caucasians are less violent than the UK's.
