Vietnam was a Noble Cause

By Darren Morrison

I have heard for years how the Vietnam war was only political, that we had no business there. Collage professors and aging hippies think they won the day. But they bring discredit to the veterans who fought that war. I want people to know that Vietnam was a noble cause. I want our Vietnam veterans to know that their efforts were not in vain, to shed light on some truth that some tried to put away in darkness; to not only bring healing but honor to those great men and some woman of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard and honor to those names on the wall, that they did not die for nothing.

I was very young during the Vietnam war. In fact I was in 2nd grade during the fall of Saigon. But as I grew into a young man I began to hear more and more about the war in Vietnam. I was told by a hool teacher who were more likely of those who shamed our vets, that this was an unjust war. When I was in high school the movie Hair came out. Hair was a movie that glorified the hippies and anti-war movement. To my own discredit that movie had an influence on me. I began to listen to the Beatles and the Grateful Dead and other music of that era. I yearned to be like them and started using drugs and then ran away from home at 17 ending up in Florida and my so called hippie friend left me there as he went on to somewhere else. Well that was a shattering experience and I went back home. I took my headband bandana off and I joined the Army National Guard.

There in the National Guard I was in a unit that had Vietnam and Korean war vets in it at the time. I got to hear some of their stories. Not once did any of them say that their emery was kind. I heard about the dirty warfare these Viet Cong did. I heard real horror stories and it was not anything like the hippie explained. These guys were there. They were in the muck. The hippies were not there. So why were the hippies so concerned with the Viet Cong? Why did they care about the welfare of them but not our boys? They called our guys killers of women and children when the Vietcong were using women and children to kill our boys.

Well nobody ever says that World War Two was in vain. Nobody would dare say how bad it was to kill Nazi’s. We know what that National Socialists did over there don’t we. Some of us have heard how cruel the Japanese were to the Chinese and how they forced thousands of Okinawins over cliffs. We know about the concentration camps. Yes we know how many boys gave it there all on Normandy and Iwo Jima. There is no doubt in any Americans mind that what we did in World War Two was worth it. We helped to rid the world of an evil. Yes World War Two was a noble cause.

Then Korea and Vietnam were noble causes as well. The evil we were fighting over there was even more evil than the national socialist party. This is a more sinister version of Marxism called communism. Korea was both backed and supplied by Red China. Make no mistake we were fighting China over there as well. China was more visible in Korea but their presence was known about in Vietnam as well. In many ways The communist party makes the National Socialist party look like boy scouts. They are just different brands of Marxism applied differently. Communists are ruthless GOD haters. They kill Christians and anyone with a belief in GOD. Just look at Cambodia with Pol-Pot and his killing fields. These were the same tyrants America was fighting in Vietnam.

The Viet Cong killed any one who would not go along with their program. They claimed they were liberating the poor but what they really did was enslave them. You see the poor had no more food on their table after communism than before. Communists are GOD haters so there is no reason for them to tell the truth. The way Viet Cong treated their prisoners was inhuman. Even the Germans and Japanese were not that cruel. They way our boys were treated in North Vietnamese prison camps was cause enough to never trade with that county until that generation is dead. They even kept prisoners long after the war. In fact there is a possibility that there are still POW’s over there to this day.

Viet Cong forced children strapped with explosives to go up to Americans then blow up killing themselves and the American and any one else near the blast. Communists don’t believe in GOD so people are used as cattle. They used woman to fight their battles as well. They would inject their troops with opiates so they could get shot and keep on going. There was no since of humanity among theses tyrants of death.

So if we compare Hitler’s National Socialism to Communism we will find that though Hitler was evil and horrible Communism is even worse. Remember the Tiananmen Square. When the people who communism was supposed to represent stood up for their rights they were killed like vermin. The streets of Tiananmen ran red with blood. If we think that Muslims invested terrorism I say they learned it from the communists. V.I. Lenin said with terror we will win the world to communism. Communism has caused the deaths of 150 million people. What a deadly ideology. The Catholics in there rampages could come close. Muslims have a lot of catching up to do to even come close to the death toll of communism.

After we left Vietnam They started rounding up all the critics of communism; Doctors, Lawyers, and school teachers. Anyone who had spoken out against communism, Chairman Moa or their brutal tactics were sent away for years to re-education camps where they were beaten and tortured having fingers cut off and given very little food. If they survived they were released and given the most menial jobs. Like highly skilled surgeons made to be cab drivers. Then all churches and Buddhist temples were burned to the ground. All bibles and other books of freedom and religion were burned. And you thought the left never burnt books. The poor farmer was now even poorer, because as always redistribution of the wealth is really and always redistribution of poverty.

Vietnam today is not picnic either, even though Bill Clinton has opened it to American trade. Vietnam was virtually living in the "dark-ages." Its state-owned enterprises were losing money, food was rationed, and shoes needed to be rationed. For the Vietnam Communist Party , not enough reform creates social instability that would challenge its legitimacy, but too much reform can do the same. Thus, the Vietnam Communist Party has made, unmade, and remade reforms since the mid-1980s in order to control social instability. Their system of communism never works except for the elite running things there. They want to keep living their life of luxury, just like the pigs in Animal farm. That is what Vietnam is, Animal farm If you have not read that book I encourage you to read it.

That is why Vietnam was a noble cause. They were fighting one of the most evil and dark forces in the world. We had the men and the machines to win that war. But there were too many communists here in the states. We did not lose the war. We were not allowed to slay the evil communist dragon because it’s tail was already here in America.

Yes there were Communists in our government already, despite McCarthy’s efforts. But there were even more communists out in the streets and in the college classrooms. All the major Hippy and Vietnam war protest groups were headed by communists. Yes there were not concerned for the outcome of the war or the innocent civilians but instead for their fallen comrades. I work at Colorado State University and I know for a fact that there are professors here that are hard line Stalinist communists, here in middle America. The 60’s drug culture, hippie movement was a front for communist subversives. Most of the hippies were nothing more than useful idiots for the Marxists who ran things behind the scenes.

So this goes out to all that fought in Vietnam and in Korea. You fought for a good cause and don’t let any one say anything different. Fighting the dirty evil communist is noble

Yep. Where were Hanoi Jane and the McGovernites when those millions were being exterminated? Not a single peep eminated from the whole lot of them. The peacnicks and all the other radical Marxists peddling their wares as the only ones who cared about the Asians, were absolutely mute.

Today they're all back under the ANSWER umbrella. Who funds these a--holes? Russia hasn't the funding. Who does? I'd like to know.

It's not the VETS who have to be convinced. Let the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice know. Those are the people that who are most forgotten. The mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. Tell them.

Who funds these liars?
A lot of commie groups you've heard of and a lot you haven't. Individual donations(tax-deductible), grants from foundations and most likely tax money from you and me fund these moronic traitors. The media gives them free and favorable public relations.

That era was mostly about a convergence of two interests. The communist party in America had always been a factor in our government, and in society, but they didn’t really have that much power. They didn’t have that much power until the most selfish generation in American history happened to come of draft age. That would be the baby boomers so, you are dead on with your point about them becoming useful idiots. The commies seduced the boomers by telling them that the war was unjust, and that dovetailed nicely with the boomers selfishness. The boomers weren’t use to doing anything that they did not want to do. The commies now had force in numbers, and they had clout. The thing most pundits overlook is the protests stopped as soon as the draft was eliminated because the boomers were no longer interested. I feel I can be critical of that generation because I was one. Yes Viet Nam was a noble cause, and it will be to my everlasting shame that my generation probably is responsible for the deaths of so many of the vets.

Actually, George McGovern wanted to explore military action to stop the killing perpetuated by Pol Pot in Cambodia. Problem was, it was so close on to he debacle of the fall of Saigon that nobody in the US goverment had the stomach to go back in to SE Asia. I always wonder what went through McGovern's mind when he saw the results of our withdrawal from SE Asia. I know that grass was growing in the streets of Phnom Pen while Pol Pot and his freedom fighters were killing their fellow Cambodians with spades because bullets were too expensive.

And as a direct result of our failure to fully engage and defeat the Communists in Vietnam, and, instead, to kowtow to a bunch of flag burning spoiled brats who really did deserve a "bloodbath" (to quote Reagan), not only did Vietnam fall to the enemies of the USA and the West, so too did Laos and Cambodia. With our tail between our legs, we went from being a strong presence in a SEATO defined Southeast Asia to just another country among supposed equals. Even countries like Thailand started to lick the boots of the PRC, and now, at a time when geopolitically we ought to be deploying road mobile missiles all over SE Asia to stand down the PRC and Pakistan with their DF-21s and Shaheens, instead, we've got no bases and kowtow to Pakistan, who along with Myanmar and the PRC threaten to one day blitz the remaining free nations of the SE. There is no doubt in my mind that we made a big mistake by not declaring war against the N. Vietnamese and those who supported them way back in '64 or '65. Our feeble, ambiguous, post-WW-II foreign policy is just now becoming truly apparent as the disaster that it was; in the coming wars of mass destruction, thrust upon the US and our few remaining allies by the enemies of Western Civilization, we shall come to regret every single compromise, draw, withdrawl and other wussy act that we have shamefully allowed since 1945. Our irrational fears of direct confrontation with other nuclear armed nations have paralyzed our brains and led to self deception upon self deception. We are to the present age as the UK were to the period 1919 - 1939. Now, may the flaming by wishful thinkers, idiotic followers of defeatist MAD, lackeys of Thomas L. Friedman and apoligists to post-war moderation begin! I relish it, for it teaches me much and further serves to prove me correct.

I appreciate your take on McGovern. The problem is, that once the barn door is open, the cows are out. McGovern and his fellow travelers ushered in the genocide. Everybody tried to tell them that there was more on the table than ugly American, beautiful NVC. Once they'd done their magic, there was no rescuing the victims of their ideology.

McGovern and his fellow travelers are responsible for the deaths of millions. I hope the weight of this crushes that son of a b.

His fellow travelers spit on the troops as they returned. I've spit on the memory of that prick for thirty years.

I caught a repeat of a C-Span interview with Mort Kondrake (Fox News' Beltway Boys) over the weekend and was very interested to hear that the reason he finally abandoned his youthful allegiance to the liberal Democrats was his revulsion about the Democratic Senate's refusal to vote the six hundred million dollars assistance promised to South Vietnam in case the North violated the truce ending the war, which they did immediately. "These poor people in the south were dying, and the liberals, who usually were happy to spend money on all sorts of things, wouldn't support military efforts to try to help them", were Kondrake's approximate words. This was the real betrayal in the war - militarily, the North had been fought to a standstill and the South, although weak, had a chance to maintain its independence with promised assistance in weapons and materials, but no troops, from the US. Senate Democrats reneged on the promise, without a doubt in large part from the petty motivation that they had to justify their antiwar sentiments, and of course the South, seeing themselves abandoned, crumbled. Tragic.
If you haven't already read it, you might find interesting Michael Lind's book Vietnam, The Necessary War. Lind makes the rather bizarre argument that we definitely should have been in Vietnam but that we should have abandoned the war sooner, since it went on too long in his view. Nevertheless his basic premise - that Vietnam was one of several necessary proxie wars we had to fight with China and USSR to maintain our own freedom and security - fits well with your comments and helps affirm that those who fought there served their country well....

Hi there. I just saw "We Were Soldiers" on DVD last weekend, and it was great. At the end of the movie, when they show that bastard NVA commander acting smug about how they would win in the end, all I thought about was what a dumbass he was. They are a $hithole worthless dung heap of a country, and if they had told the Russians to go to hell and joined the West, their country would be wealthy by now. What did their socialist pride get them?

Luckily, we got the cream of their society, and they'll be helping us continue to dominate the planet for a while.

One of the biggest lies ever told on TV: "And that's the way it is." was Walter Chronkite's closing line on the CBS Evening News in the 1960's.

I realized what a lie this was when I returned from Vietnam in 1968, because what Chronkite said was exactly the way it WASN'T.

Keep in mind also: Chronkite was the guy who was instrumental in bringing Dan Rather to CBS as a national correspondent.

Ol' Uncle Walter has a lot answer for.

I wish someone would take a look at the 1969 battle at Hiep Duc, Quang Tin province. It was the last time an NVA at division strength faced off against US forces. They learned a lesson, never take the USA head-on.

As most who spent time in Viet Nam know, today's terrorists are using tactics honed by the Viet Cong and NVA in Viet Nam, the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia and the Pathet Lao in Laos. Unfortunately, the American media and their leftist friends never bothered to report on the myriad atrocities they committed (especially the genocide of highland tribes in Viet Nam), and when they did it was always couched in a sort of Orwellian newspeak that apologized for any action undertaken by an enemy guerrilla force.

Unfortunately, with regard to the media's treatment of our enemies, we are beginning to see history repeat itself.

Stablize the area LOL!

We killed the head of south Viet Nam. We went against the guy in the North who had been our ally in WWII. We lied to keep the fight going and kill even more of them and us. We sent the country into serious debt. We wouldn't let them be, because in all liklihood their people would have voted communist on their own, something they had a right to do. We didn't give it our best shot and got even more of our folks killed. We lied to give the president extraconstitutional war powers. And the commies took over anyway.

So tell me about stability.

We projected that they would have voted commie if there had been a vote. Let em wallow in their own sh&t. It shouldn't have been our job to impose freedom on them. They wanted free of colonialism and they kicked the French out. What the hell did we think we would do?

All the things I listed before did more to destablilize us and them than the war did.

If you want to talk about today go ahead, but don't try to glorify the war we should have never fought.

I'm really tearing up with your tyrrany of 1 sermon.

There are fewer countries under communism than anytime since 1946. If you want something serious to worry about other than the poor little boy and some Viets, there are 1.6 billion commies in China and North Korea. Those countries have nuclear weapons and missiles that can reach the US.

If you need to feel the Viet Nam war was worthwhile and honorable, knock yourself out. You really can block out history if you try hard enough. Good night!

A major problem (perhaps the main problem) was that the NVA wanted to win much more than the ARVN. (The old you can lead a horse to water routine in action). Perhaps their morale would have been better had they been alongside us in North Vietnam kicking Commie ass.

NEVER FORGET

...The ARVN were "kicking NVA Ass" until the Enemy Within Democrats who controlled Congress killed off all U.S. funding for its resupply of:

Ammo
Rifles
Aircraft
Aircraft Parts
Helicopters
Helicopter Parts
Artillery
Artillery Shells

...just as the Communist Soviet Union handed over $6 BILLION to Communist North Vietnam for its "Final Solution" in the South.

...The rest IS History.

NEVER FORGET
