You must fight (The Police Cannot Protect You)

There is a myth of the policeman in modern America. From a very young age we are taught that the police are here to protect us, and "To serve and protect" is a motto common to many police forces across the country. Sadly, the reality is that the police are not in the protection business.

Despite the pretense, it has been confirmed in more than one court that not only do you not have a right to expect protection from the police, but they have no responsibility for your safety and security. Do you understand the significance of this? The police have no responsibility to protect you!

This is not to say that the police do not wish to protect everyone. I know a few policemen at the gym where I work out, and to a man they are fine and dedicated public servants, determined to do their best to protect society from the depredations of the criminal, the mad and the depraved. But they will be the first to tell you that they cannot be everywhere, that it is foolish to expect them to prevent anyone from committing whatever crime they desire.

The police are not there to protect. The police are there to pick up the pieces, to find the perpetrator and see that justice prevents him from doing it again.

Contrary to misleading media reports, self-defense has always been the optimal response, even for an unarmed, untrained woman. In a 1990 study, Kleck and Sayles found that when women were attacked by a would-be rapist, fighting back reduced the chance of the rape by 86 percent, and that most injuries occurred prior to any attempt at self-defense. Women armed with knives or guns were raped less than 1 percent of the time, and never ended up being made into a prisoner, or worse.

But unfortunately, the myth of the policeman – always a perilous foundation upon which to stand for those who accepted it – has become even more treacherous in this time of Islamic terror. Consider the difference between the responses of Flight 93, which was prepared to resist, and the other three flights hijacked on 9-11 which were not. The brave defenders of Flight 93 were not able to save their own lives, but their heroic sacrifice saved hundreds, perhaps thousands of others. They were not police, they were just everyday men and women, but they served and protected all the same.

Evil, you see, always depends upon the willingness of the good to suffer its existence. One of history's saddest lessons is how the ferocious, lion-hearted resistance shown in 1943 by the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto demonstrates how even the staggering evil of the Holocaust could have been mitigated, if not averted, by the victims' refusal to meekly accept their fate.

The evil of Islamic terror now stalks the Western world. The war in Iraq will not end it, and so every American must accept the fact that one day, he or she may be faced with a choice: to resist in awareness of the likelihood of immediate death, or to meekly accede in the hopes that someone else will step up to the plate.

Osama bin Laden and the jihadists are counting on the latter, that we of the rich, fat and decadent West are so complacent that we cannot even bother to defend ourselves. Our Islamic enemies think this of us, we the inheritors of "We few, we happy band of brothers ...", "Nuts" and "Don't Tread on Me!" They are wrong. They are so very wrong.

The 2nd Division of the United States Marine Corps has a motto: "Follow Me." This is deeply meaningful, in light of the statistic which showed that in World War II, units with the highest rate of junior-officer casualties tended to have the lowest overall casualty rates. The Marines already know what we must learn – risk brings the highest reward and only sacrifice provides safety.

When Ron Lantz phoned 911 to report a blue Chevy matching the description of the D.C. snipers' car, the police told him to stay where he was, to not get involved. Instead, he used his truck to park it in. In this least civilized of wars, men like Ron Lantz and Todd Beamer of Flight 93 must be our model.

No fear. Resist. Don't let them tread on you.

I read the cops asked him to block the car in until they arrived here... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/775461/posts

They instructed Lantz to wait for state troopers to arrive but to block the Chevy in with their vehicles.

The unassuming truck driver waited 15 nerve-racking minutes until the authorities arrived.

Police business is primarily after the fact. I'm not putting them down. They deal with the sludge and scum of society day after day. Undercover oficers may get a heads up alert to HQ about pending robberies, hits, etc., but for the most part they are called after the refuse has hit the propeller. They could do a better job if it weren't for the fact that they are also big revenue enhancers, nailing folks for driving 7 mph over the limit.

It's what we got when the egg-heads got folks to surrender their independence (and put down their guns) to the idea of a Police Force. But some didn't, and they don't need to worry about how they will protect their dear ones against burglars and rapists. And each day, more of us pick up the guns again. That way, it's not us the police are loading into a body bag. It's the rat who came at us.

Excellent post, and more proof of the utter stupidity of the myth that dialing 911 is "safer" than blowing the intruder away.

Fight. Fight with weapons. Fight with your bare hands if you have to.

No surrender to thugs.

It is time to wipe Islam and the Koran off of the planet. I repeat, it is time to wipe Islam and the Koran off of the planet.

Class, here is your assigned reading, available from www.amazon.com

Dial 911 and Die
by Richard W. Stevens, Garn Turner (Illustrator)

I'm pro-cop...but a LOT of their work is just showing up and recording the way
in which you were killed, then hoping to gather enough clues to maybe find the perp.

My attitude is that even if I didn't survive an attack, I'd like to at leave have
my attacker leave a blood trail and have a few slugs in him/her to help the cops
know they got the right guy, once they track them down.

Or find them dead on my lawn or slumped dead over the wheel of their git-away vehicle.

If the police would spend more time on REAL law enforcement instead of B.S. like, ticketing, hassling kids in parking lots, dope smokers, and seat belt violators we would be a heck of a lot better off and wouldn't need but half of them.

I have found at least 3 SCOTUS decisions that confirm this. This is one of the main reasons for the Second Amendment.

I'll bet most cops will agree that warrants are a pain in the ass too.

Not officially, of course. And it's totally understandable.

Our rights aren't their responsibility either. They are ours.

While I am certain that Osama is indeed very wrong about some Americans - the posters on this forum, for example - is he really so wrong about all those folks who vote leftists into congress year after year - the blue part of the 2000 election map??

I like the cops at shooting matches, not their bosses who are sucking up to the mayor. I very much like the tough-minded people on Free Republic who speak out bravely against the the clintons, the un, the pc whimps, gun grabbers and etc. My hope is that we gain some serious momentum.

Last time I checked (about a year ago),there were about 700,000 cops in the US. In any given 8 hour shift, around 240,000 of them are on official duty. There are around 280 MILLION of the rest of us. That means about ONE cop for around every 1,200 of us. The math makes it a no-brainer to say that we're really on our own when it comes to personal security.

And the Supremes have ruled that the while the police have a duty to maintain law and order and preserve PUBLIC safety, they have no special obligation to any SPECIFIC citizen. On that basis, some cops -- like those who died on 9-11 and at other times actually trying to save individuals -- really ARE heroes!

Try as they might, the cops cannot be everywhere.

They are after-the-fact agents, usually arriving in time to string some yellow tape, chalk your outline on the pavement and help the ME's boys close the doors on the meat wagon.

Like Tony Soprano, you need to "...get yourself a gun."

Tony has several.

And HE lives in that relatively gun-free sanctuary known as New Jersey.

The following is not original with me. I received it as an email some time ago, but it seems appropriate here:

"I refuse to be a sheep. I refuse to let anyone have power over me. I am no vigilante, but I know that I have as much a right to be here as anyone else in the world, and some idiot who needs a sawbuck for dope or is looking for some quick cash is not going to take me out without a fight.

Because the world has dishonest people, I carry.

Because the world has murderers and thieves, I carry.

Because they could be the next person I meet on the street, I carry.

And because I refuse to be a victim, I carry.

I will state without apology my belief in God and my right to keep and bear arms.

I will take charge of my own personal safety.

I will give myself a fighting chance by carrying my concealed weapon.

I will not depend on the government, the police, or others to protect me.

I will always obey the gun laws.

I will constantly be alert to my surroundings.

I will acknowledge and accept the responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon.

I will not take unnecessary risks because I am carrying.

I will promote and continue to fight for my right to keep and bear arms as an American.

And I will always, always, always carry."

Cops usually are report takers...those that can actually write. Having read a number of police reports lately, most cannot write past a fifth grade level.

The Police are a REACTIONARY entity. They are NOT proactive. In a very small number of cases do they ever stop the crime before/while it occurs. Their job basically starts after the crime. If the opposite were true, there'd be no crime.Protect yourself & your family. Learn to safely use a firearm.

My sentiments exactly. No one is powerless if they have the means and will to resist.

No fear. Resist. Don't let them tread on you.

Both in big things like the war on Al-Qaeda terror trying to destroy America and in small things like the war on drug-crazed thugs trying to steal money, we must all fight until our last breath.
