October 31, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - Democrat Frank Lautenberg said last night he still feels the way he did 20 years ago - there's not an "awful lot" a 72-year-old freshman senator could do for New Jersey. It was an odd admission given that Lautenberg himself is hoping to win Tuesday's election and go to the Senate at age 79 - and his opponent, Republican Doug Forrester, jumped all over it in last night's debate.

I was hoping for an on-stage stroke. Does that make me a bad person?

trust me, it was a barely a glove. what's not shown here are all the "uhmmhs, errhs, uhhhs" and near total brain stoppages inbetween the attack spin DNC had 'the Lautenburg' try to memorize over the past couple days.

No, it does not. But it would have been horrible for Forrester. Imagine the sympathy vote for The Lout.

The proper reply is "Mr. Lautenberg, you courageously fought to end one evil regime. Why are you arguing for the continuation of another?"

How can that comment haunt Frank Lousenberg when he cannot remember it because of his senility?

Lautenberg's main concern is keeping his diaper dry for the duration of the debate.

I guess that explains why he began the answer to every tough question with, "that depends".

Forrester was in the draft and wasn't called...there's no fool like a old drooling incompetent fool who is unfit for office

That is the perfect answer! I hope the RNC read it!

Lautenberg defended his 1991 vote against the Persian Gulf War, saying, "I knew we had a way to get in, but we didn't have a way out."

Boy, were you wrong. In and out in 100 hours. Stopped right when he had achieved the UN mandate. Probably only stopped then to keep whiners like you from railing about how he'd turned it into "Bush's personal vendetta against Saddam".

That's why GWB isn't listening to whiners like you this time, Frank. But at least you didn't act like a typical Clinton Democrat, you didn't just lie about your bad judgement, you admitted it.

I think we got a new Campaign slogan here, "Frank Lauttenburg - NOT TORRECELLI - NOT CLINTON - NOT AFRAID TO ADMIT HE'S CLUELESS!

If the Republicans can't beat over the hill Democratic "second stringers" like Lautenburg and Mondale, they need a new plan.

After Forrester called him weak on defense, Lautenberg, a World War II Army veteran, said of Forrester, "When he had a chance to put on his country's uniform, he decided - he chose not to do it."

I love it when post-Clinton Democrats try this trick.

Yes but can we win when 45% of the Demorat vote is
solid and always there! Thet won't care that Frank looked his age and then about 10 years older!

It was so one-sided it is unreal--Yet, I am sorry to say it may not help!!!

If I am not mistaken, Millicent Fenwich was a congresswoman when she decided to run for Senate. Therefore, she was hardly a newbie.

As for the low remark about Louse enlisting at age 18....he neglected to comment that it was the second world war. It is my understanding that Forrester registered for the draft but was not called....decades after world war two.

Forrester registered for the draft? Big deal! It was a felony not to. So what does he want? A medal?

What's the big deal? 45% of NJ is brain dead and will vote for the senile old fool anyways. And the DNC can manufacture 10% more anytime they want too from the Graves Registration unit.

Lousenberg is 79. He's not right in the head, if you know what I mean. How can anyone other than a Yellow Dog Democrat even consider voting for this man.

If you register and don't get called does that mean you are to be demonized. Guess so if it's a dem talking about a republican. Wonder what Lousenberg thought about his friend slick willie.

The dead and the moved away from NJ will have no problem voting for the Louse. They don't even have to show up at the polls.......the votes will be loaded into the machines before the polls open on election day.

Nice hatchet job for a senile, incompetent 77 year old. Frank didn't even use the words "Chicken Hawk" and he still made Forrester look like a draft dodging hypocrite with a bug up his butt.

I heard Lautenberg ask Forrester if he would agree that ALL semiautomatic rifles should be turned in, (i.e. collected by the JBT's)

Is there a link to Forrester's response?

No. An optimist.
